Help Battery life getting on my nerves.

I have tried EVERYTHING but my battery still dies extremely fast. I get about 4 hours max. I've used JD, underclocking and every other battery saving method that I've read about, but they're all unsuccessful. I'm on ZVA and my battery still overheats. At this point, I'm guessing this is just my battery that sucks, not the phone or software. Should I get a new battery? I've been thinking of going a Corporate store but I've been told that they don't switch batteries. Should I bring up the fact that it's a safety hazard if it gets over 120 degrees Fahrenheit? If I get a replacement phone, will I still be able to use the LG software update tool even though it doesn't support refurbished phones? I vaguely remember seeing a fix for that but I can't find the thread. I would buy an extended battery but, I have no means of getting one since I don't have a credit card (I'm 14). What do you guys think I should do? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance =D

Getting an extended battery will at least solve the battery life issue, maybe not the overheating issue. What do you do on your phone? Did you talk to your parents about it? Maybe if you explain to them what's going on with your phone they may buy you an extended battery.

If you have the cash they could order the battery for you and you can just give them the money.

I could definitely get my dad to buy it. He just doesn't trust buying anything online cause a while ago he was charged $1000 for stuff he never bought. Yet he got the bill with the list of all the items he "bought" but never received. And I'm certainly not a noob with android phones. I know that it's not my fault the battery dies so quickly. It's some sort of battery/software issue. For now I just made a custom profile in SetCPU so that when my screen is off it uses little to no battery. That solved the problem while the screen is off. But let's say I get a text. I unlock my phone and reply. In that one minute I replied I lost about 1-2% battery. I don't understand how that is even possible. My admire would last days on a singe charge.

if you're just texting and making phone calls with no video streaming or gaming you should be getting way more than 4 hours even on the stock battery. one tip i'd give ya is to turn 4G off and only use it when you need it. you can find 4G toggle apps on the market.

try and find someone you know who isnt leery about making online purchases. if you have the cash they might be willing to work with ya.

true that. now i have 4 different slim batteries 2stock lg from a different device one aftermarket 1900 and the stock for this phone. ive tested all of them on direct netflix streaming from 100% to 0 and the stock for this phone was by far the best. it got 1:55 vs 1:30 for the other lg vs 1:05 for the 1900. i still havent had time to fully drain the extended 3850 on netflix with no interruption but ill be doing that.

this is the setup:
jd off
autosync off
no startup apps in background
standard network settings
test was done in the same location for all 4
brightness max
volume 50%
movie: sling blade idk wth it is but its 2hrs and 20 min
no phone calls no interruption
gps on
bluetooth on not connected
mobile networks location off
auto screen rotation off

I've gotten it up to 120 degrees Fahrenheit on ZVA. It's at 100 degrees on average. It had never gotten over 100 on ZV9. And I do have 4G disabled. My admire never got over 50 degrees. I don't understand how the battery goes so fast. And I've tried draining the battery and then charging it all the way and it's still horrible

so you have 4g off most of the time and you're only getting 4 hours on the stock battery?

what the heck are you doing???

I'm not doing anything! That's why I'm complaining to you guys lol. I'll try a reset then update via the LG update tool. Maybe that'll do something. I also noticed the phone charges really fast. I'll plug it in and it'll go from 0% to 100% in about 30 minutes. Could it be that it doesn't actually charge all the way up to 100? Or does your phone charge like that too?

lol my stock battery doesn't go that far either, i'm using go power and have wifi, sync, and 4g off most of the day. I only turn 4g on when using facebook. Also my brightness is set to 20% and when i go see my battery usage swype and idle are the ones with higher percentage of consumption, brightness does get high sometimes also even at 20%

PS my phone takes about 2 to 3 hours to fully charge

0 to 100 in 30 minutes? no way are all the cells in your battery being charged in a half hour and its weird if your battery is going to 100 in such a short amount of time.

is that how long you usually let your phone charge?

i use to go all day with my stock battery but that was with everything off and the phone in sleep mode most of the time which seems to be what you guys are doing and you're only getting 4 hours.

thats just odd.

I get through the day on stock battery with everything off. I use power widget. I also use gingerbread keyboard. I don't use any battery saving widget cause from what I hear it uses more juice. I do like norten utilities for data counter. What do you guys use for that.

If after the update the overheating issue still there Im sure that your phone has a problem...
i didnt have overheating issues but my batteri was most of the time on 35C~40C
when iddle.. when i was playing games and pandora and gps on i can reach 45C and very rare in 50C (usually if i were in places where it was very hot..)

after update my phone is on 23C~28C when iddle and 34C when getting my phone bussy...

There's a background process being covered up by swype/maps or standby. I deleted maps and swype, the battery drain got divided up between the screen, standby and gb keyboard.

On average, my battery is used 60% by swype, 2% on keyboard and 5% on maps. Without maps or swype installed, it gets changed to 55% on display, 9% on standby and 3% on keyboard.

My battery life is a lot better now depending on my usage. Now I can't drain the battery in less than five hours of constant usage. If I have moderate use I usually get between 10-15 hours.

Sounds like your right on par with other root users now. For what its worth you could always pay the fee and grab one of those prepaid debit cards from your local corner store to use online. I was looking at other batteries for this phone and you can get quite a few for under ten bucks.

Sounds like you got a worse battery from LG than most of us. Im still not convinced that the issue is software (as LG is saying), it might be able to be HELPED with software (undervolting the CPU and such) but the batteries are just junk, ESPECIALLY with this kind of hardware. So I would recommend getting a higher capacity battery, one from Ebay would do the trick (just grab a prepaid visa card)

Other than that try:

Running Juice Defender (seriously I get 50-100% better battery life with this app, on my old LG Optimus M I used to get almost 48 hours of standby time and at LEAST 24 hours with moderate use/gaming)

Delete Swype. Unless you use Swype, back it up and delete it, it is NOTORIUS for draining battery. If you use it, then search around and sign up for and download the Beta, reports are that it uses less battery than the current version

Set up Maps right. Go into the settings and set the "cache map tiles" to wifi/charging only, that way maps wont keep trying to load tiles in the background when your on the go. Dont leave your GPS antenna on. And use the new "download for offline use" option to download a map of your area so Maps NEVER has to actually download tiles as long as you stay in that area. doing all this put my maps down to using about .5%

Turn off 4G when you dont use it. Use Power Control Plus app (the 2g/3g option is what youll need to use) to turn off the 4G antenna, the 3g uses less and is just fine for most tasks, you can always turn it back on when you need it.

Use a program (I like Rom Toolbox Pro, for $5 it has tools to do everything mentioned here and ALOT more) to to create some CPU profiles. I like one for "screen on" that has your normal max cpu and a minimum of like 600 with the smartassv2 governor, and one for "screen off" with a max of like 600 and a minimum of 432 with a conservative governor. Doing this gave me at least another hour or two of standby.

Use Rom Toolbox (or another program) to keep as many apps from starting as possible, the only things you need when you start is widgets, apps that use push notifications (like email, mms, facebooc, etc) and system apps. NO, that game does not need to start with your phone

and finally, find the lightest apps and consolidate them as much as possible. For instance Rom toolbox let me get rid of about 10-15 apps I had before. Also, Friend Caster not only uses 20-30 less memory, but ALSO has more options.

There you go, hope this helps.
