Help Battery Life Good, Bad, Excellent now Awful !

Up until about 4 weeks ago all was well with my Nexus 7, during a normal day I'd use about 40% of my battery and used to happily top up each morning. On upgrading to 5.1.1 suddenly my battery was draining (regardless of use) within about 4 hours ! Tried various forum suggestions to no avail.
Last week Marshmallow arrived and suddenly my battery would last for 2 days. Battery optimisation was set by default for all except those for which "Doze" wasn't available, the world was a much better place !
Three days ago without any "noticeable" upgrade my battery is draining again, my perception is that it's possibly worse than with 5.1.1.
Doze still appears to be set for all apps.
Has anyone else experienced this ?
As an aside the apps shown as "battery users" are mainly system stuff but some apps eg Kindl and others which I haven't used for ages are shown, any ideas why ?

Maybe those apps that are draining your battery have been updated recently, and are misbehaving.

It seems you are correct, had a raft of updates 2 days ago and battery usage is now looking good once more, at least the rapid draining has stopped, just wish I knew which app(s) had caused the problem.

Following the 6.0.1 update my Nexus 7 Wifi battery life is much, much worse. I have scanned through all the Apps on my tablet, including the operating system apps but nothing shows exceptional battery usage. Also, the Android battery app now shows very little information ... previously you could view bar strips showing on/off for Wifi, Screen and other apps. This no longer appears ... has my update been incomplete? All other tablet apps function correctly.

In "battery", tap on the graph and you will see the strips.

I 'jumped to soon!' Changing the way Avast operated and deleting it from tablet as a further check, did nothing to improve battery drain. However my Wifi is now in synch with screen.

I have spent quite some time going through each app (incl operating system apps) and find that quite a number of them have used memory as I would expect but none show a heavy usage of battery ... in fact many of those that have recent memory usage show 0 battery usage since last full charge. Others have dulled out Battery/Memory in the app info so I am guessing that this must mean no recent usage or the app somehow blocks information.

Anything else one could check?

I know people hate to hear this but, a factory reset and adding apps back a couple at a time will flush out the sneaky little culprit. Full backup in twrp first. Maybe backup user app data in titanium, and backup important files to PC.
Of course most of that assumes you're rooted. But I usually assume root when talking about a nexus
Sounds a little time consuming, but may give you your answer.
With the new doze feature of mm, you should be getting better battery life. Some apps have not been updated to use this feature properly. Some need an uninstall and reinstall to help. Some downright ignore it (Google is pulling apps from the play store for adding a permission to ignore doze).

Thanks for advice but factory resets and rooting are a bit beyond me. Think I will have a go at uninstall/reinstall of my apps, a couple at a time to see if I can trace.
Will post if I solve.
