Battery life post ICS update?

Sounds similar to what I've been experiencing. Phone off charger for 30-40 minutes, no matter what I'm doing with it, and it's down to 90%.

Now later in the day, I have 80% battery with very little usage, and it says that I have like 5 and a half hours left....
Which is way too small.
Also, where can I force a factory data reset?

I have been having this issue too, but now it seems like my phone might be figuring things out a bit more. I did post a similar thread to this in a different forum that just got moved here lol.

I updated to ICS and did the factory reset right after, just to make a fresh start (I did backup all my important data and the entire contents of the SD card beforehand and wiped the card when I did the FR).
The first battery charge was only about 7 hrs after a full recharge, the next lasted about twice that and now (fourth charge) I've seen the phone go a full 24 hours with about 40% left in the battery. Granted I'm not using it to D/L movies all day, but with light/average use its getting back to what I saw with GB, perhaps even a little better.
I am also using the smart actions to maximize savings. I'm hoping it will continue to improve a bit more before stabilizing at a rate that will be more than satisfactory for my needs (certainly better than my previous Droid X!).
Just wanted to share this with those who may be frustrated w battery life right after the update to ICS. After reading many posts on Phandroid on the benefits of a FR after updating to ICS, I decided to do it and wipe the SD card at the same time - really glad I did now!
Hope this helps anyone in similar circumstances who might be wondering what is happening with their phone

I was not impressed after the update to ics either. I did the cache write and factory reset and my maxx is back to normal outstanding battery life. Thanks for all the info guys.

Based on the battery usage, you all are light users, so of course battery life will be good. I get that battery life too, if not using the browser or other apps much. Battery life is relative to the user, so will not be noticed unless you use the device beyond sparingly.
I think verizon finally has a solution to the whole battery drain that is being experienced. They called me last night because I was having a ton of troubles with the battery on my wives phone before I started changing some settings on it to get it a little better. The Tech Support called me and asked if it was getting better and I told them a little and then he explained what to do to help battery life. You have to go into your settings and then hit the data usage option. When you get into that you have to check the set mobile data limit and you can adjust the setting you need to. After you do that hit the menu button and check the restrict background data. When he told me about this he asked if my 4g and signal strength bar was always blue or if it ever turned white & I said that it is always blue - he then told me that this was because the phones are always connecting to the internet and constantly checking google play and other things. When you do this it actually turns both of them white and if you want to to go the play store you just uncheck this option to get your apps. He also said that some people that don't have unlimited data packages will probably go over their usage just because ICS is constantly checking things in the background unless you do this. After doing this on my phone I have had it on for over 5 hours and have called & text my battery is still showing 90%. He had a razr maxx and was only getting 6 hours on his phone but now that he did this also he has more then gotten 4 times better on his phone also. Not sure if there will be a patch or update for this but he told me that this is the action that they are going to be telling people to do to get the best battery life. Any questions just let me know. Hopes this helps some people out.

That's the same thing that you could have always done to save battery. That has nothing to do with fixing an ics issue if it was software related

Yea, unfortunately the guy you spoke with doesn't really know what he is talking about.
Stopping the data connection will give you more battery life on any phone with any OS version. It has nothing to with ICS and ICS is not "running more" in the background if you set things up to avoid it at the app level. If you leave Facebook, Google +, Twitter, weather, etc. set to sync every hour or half hour it is going to drain the battery. Sending a request for information and then downloading that information uses data and battery. The more it does it, the more battery is used. 4G itself uses more battery than wifi and 3G (with very few exceptions).
Turning off data is a good idea if you are in very bad reception area or on a plane, but it is hardly a solution for battery drain. What is the point of having a smartphone that works like a regular phone? Seems like a waste of money to me.
I really wish Verizon would educate their employees, especially their tech support people. This is like them advising people to use Task Killers to make their phone run properly all over again.
Sorry, for that bit of a rant there, but misinformation gets me upset.

Its not running more. It's the same. It's just easier to see what apps are using a lot of data and makes it think it's using more
Okay so I am happier now. I had performed the FDR last Thursday and still wasn't getting battery life like I had prior to ICS. I did to a cache wipe Monday night. The below is from yesterday. I don't really use 4G. I know it's a huge battery drainer, I have only used it here and there prior to ICS. For what I use it for, 3G is plenty fast for me. Oh and I don't have a Maxx.

My battery life has been exceptional after a week with ICS. I charge it every other day when it reaches about 15% (badass monitor). I am no power user, I use this for work with 2 industry apps, probably 2 hours on phone, 40+ emails and 50+ texts per day, foxfi to my tablet aout 2 hours a day and sporadic web surfing. No streaming, no video, no GPS...
I am very happy, 48 hours on a charge = Happy Salesman

I don't blame the sales people for it. They are just following what people tell them. The "techs" should know better. When the first and second generation of Android devices came to Verizon it was really bad. So bad that I took my girlfriend's phone into a store because of connectivity issues and the in store tech told me a task killer would fix it.

That is what they told me for my Nexus (that I had for a week before I dumped it) and my wife when she got her Tbolt..."install the task killer, it will fix it all"......this came from the guys in the bricks and mortar Verizon store. Nice...I could never take my fascinte in for help as it was rooted and all jacked up. Trying to get the stones to root this Razr...not as easy and the fascinate and having ODIN to bail me out. :banghead:

My battery life seemed to be getting better and then today I managed to get only 14 hours on a full charge. I used to be able to get a good day and a half out of a full charge. I did the cache wipe but I am really not wanting to do a full reset. I just don't understand how it was doing good and then today such horrible life, and I was in the same location I am everyday, work!
Actually I might as well ask. I run lookout mobile security. Is there really a need if I only download from Google play?

UPDATE: Since I posted this, I'm at an all-time record, at 38 hours, 45 mins, and reading 20%.
