Help Battery Life SUCKS! There I said it...

I've had the Rezound since it came out, so I've been getting well acquainted before arriving at this conclusion. The battery life is just pitiful.

I can kill the phone in almost an hour just surfing the web without streaming, and GPS will kill it too at the end of a 45 min commute. I have a modified ibolt that barely even keeps up (I read about the new replacement though, gonna check it out!).

If I do next to NOTHING with the phone it barely lasts a day. (12 hours at near idle). Perhaps I'm just spoiled as my last dumbphone lasted for DAYS on one charge, but charge wise I feel like I'm back in 2003!

Yeah the extended battery is an option great, if the phone wasn't a brick ALREADY!

Everything else about the phone is great, but battery life feels distinctively last gen. Who's with me?

Got an app killing you man. Even on the Gnex which is widely regarded as bring the worst of the big 4 battery wise, I can easily get 3-4 hours of solid browsing on a charge and completely idle it should last approx 5 days from the extrapolations I've done. Try uninstalling apps one at a time until you find it. Also, search the market for BetterBatteryStats. Completely worth the money.

All of the newer smart phones are battery hogs. That's why Motorola put a 3300mAh battery in the Razr and called it the Maxx. However, if you can kill your battery in one hour by just surfing, you either have a bad battery, a bad phone, or you have something running that's eating your battery. Have you done anything in your settings to decrease battery usage?

I had the Rezound for 3 weeks and i had great battery life. In fact it's funny how HTC did a complete 180 with their battery tech in my opinion. They nailed it with the ReZound.

You could have an app draining you.

When using gps on your "45" minute commute are you doing anything else? In what way are you using the GPS? Are you using Google Navigation without a power supply plugged into it?

Im rooted running clean 1.6 and getting like 16-18 hours of moderate use out of it. When i go crazy and do lots of media/browsing it can only handle about 5 hours straight of that but if im doing that then i usually have it plugged in anyways cause im sitting on my rear... But for normal usage during the day i get like 16 hours before i HAVE to plug back in.

Something is wrong, the battery does suck compared to my Droid x while web browsing, playing games and using media but it's not that bad compared to other 4g phones. I've been getting 12-13 hours of moderate use. This includes texting, calls and web browsing/games on my lunches and breaks at work. I an convinced the software update improved battery life. I haven't timed myself but I web surf all the time while watching TV and I would guess a solid four hours without worrying about the charge.

You definitely have something wrong there my friend. The Rez battery/usage ratio is far better than that. Everybody uses their phone differently and signal strength makes a big difference as well but ... but you are way not getting the uptime you should be enjoying with your phone. Removing apps one at a time or check your settings and see what is sucking you dry.

+1 on what olbrier is saying. I once started using juice like crazy on my charge. I checked what was using my battery in settings and found out that weather.com was using more juice than my display! The only thing I was updating the widget was in an alarm app that wasn't even showing except at night. You just don't know until you look.

Who's with me?

Sorry, not me. "Normal" daily usage for me nets 12-13 hours, over this past weekend I wasn't really using it much and it went 1 day 15 hours before I put it back on the charger.

I don't stream much video, but I do play games and surf the web, text, email, etc. The basic stuff. The Rezound's battery has been a non-issue for me, plus I'm almost always near a wall charger or usb port I can plug into if needed.

Of course, everyone is going to have an experience unique to their own usage patterns but based on what you're seeing, I think you've either got a parasitic app running wild, or a bad battery even.

If what you're experiencing was in any way the norm on the Rezound, you can bet there would be many, many, many threads decrying that kind of battery life.

Hope you get it sorted out!

I haven't had any battery issues with the Rezound and actually think should be a selling point for the phone. I get 16-18 hours consistently (and still have 30% at the end of the day). You must have a rogue app killing your battery like others have mentioned, or possibly just a bad battery.

What is your Android OS percentage in the battery use screen? If it is over 5, it may be an app.

Going to go with the rest and say you are on your own. My battery life isn't the greatest but no where near as bad as yours. As everyone else stated, Must be an app, battery or phone. Try wiping everything and start over and see if anything changes. If not, take the phone back for another one, but don't trade it for different phone, this phone is a beast.

Went 19.5 hours yesterday before I plugged my phone in and had 36% battery left. That's with over an hour of phone calls, an hour of web surfing, 20+ texts,3 email accounts set to 5 min. Wifi, GPS always on, backround data everything, i literally do nothing to save battery. It was a light usage day with good signal.

From my calculations from when I leave my phone off the charger while i sleep in on weekends if I did NOTHING on my phone from 100%-0% it would last a minimum of 80 hours. Thats with EVERYTHING turned on but NOTHING happening no incoming calls etc.

Other than rogue apps or defects in your phone signal strength is by far the biggest factor in battery life. If you have a solid signal all day it will double your battery life. Get a airplane mode switch and if you know you are going to be without a signal for an extended period turn it on. I wonder how long this thing could go in airplane mode? I bet it would be crazy.

I recommend "switchpro widget" it has all the switches possible and you can customise them in any way I have ten switches in a 1x4 space on my home screen. Even has a task killer and a battery guage with % that goes into usage stats when you hit it, you will never need to go into settings agaoin.

I bought an extended battery and I have no issues with it or the added weight. I also have chargers everywhere and make it a habit to plug it in if I am just sitting at my desk or something. I also run the free version of Battery indicator which has told me the bulk of the juice is consumed by Display and Voice Calls. I have some free battery manager thing, but haven't used it yet. I'm toying with the ideal of getting one of those D cell charger things that can charge your phone on trips.

I prefer to check usage and do my own battery saving measures in the settings instead of adding apps that may use my battery & resources to do it, but everyone has their own preferences. I just think I learn more about my phone when I play with the settings.

I've always had backup batteries and I have twoe 5000mAh Li-Ion batteries and two extra extended batteries charged up all of the time, partly because we have occasional power outages in the winter, but also, I'm occasionally stuck some place where an outlet isn't available or convenient. I haven't really looked at the D-Cell chargers, but I have an older one that uses AA's that worked fine with my iPhone. It doesn't work as well with the newer, more powerful smart phones, but I did like not having to recharge it. When it ran down, I just put new batteries in it.

How did you get your display usage so low? Mine is always over 50 even with brightness down to 30% always

Its not so much that the display was low that the voice calls were high as a % of total usage. I didn't use my phone much that day except for calls and the screen is off for most of that.

I took a look and didn't get the impression too many apps are running. I'm always killing them. Any further and I'd have to root.

Those of you that are experiencing great battery life, are you rooted?

Probably part of your battery problem is that you are always killing apps. Let the system do the work, because if you kill one that the system wants running, it'll just restart it anyway using more battery.

I get decent battery life compared to my Eris and I'm unrooted.

Rooted running cleanrom 1.6, great battery life. The biggest factor in battery usage other than usage is signal strength. At home on the weekend with solid 24/7 signal and on wifi I can go 30-40 hours with light usage, during the week at work when I'm in the basement a lot and in a big building with bad signal the most i will see is 15 hours. Also use WiFi whenever possible, make sure your phone auto connects to any WiFi hotspots that you are ever near, WiFi uses like half the power of 4g.

I don't do anything to save battery other than using WiFi whenever possible, I leave WiFi, 4g, GPS on all the time and screen brightness to auto. If I didn't touch my phone at all and recieved no calls or anything and had a solid signal, still with everything turned on it would do 80 hours before it died.

I got to +1 the people saying the battery isn't as bad as yours is. I NEVER turn on wifi, I have 4G only (in a good area though). I pay for unlimited data, why should I use my network? LOL.

I do keep GPS off when I'm at home, unless I need to us nav to get somewhere. Or if I want to show off my phone with Google Earth or Skyview.

But even doing some surfing and downloads, couple of calls and playing some display intensive games I can go 4-5 hours of fairly constant use before I hit my 20% warning.

Do you have the 3.7v battery or the 3.8v battery? I've heard the 3.8v is worse for battery life.

Yeah my wife's phone is having MAJOR problems with the battery. It drains so fast you can almost watch it go down. I've been monitoring it with CPU Spy and also OS Monitor but I can't spot a rogue app. If anything runs more frequently than normal, it'd be Android System.

So I got mad and RUU'd it to start fresh. Still the same story. Maybe she just got a bad unit idk but she is beyond frustrated and ready to jump ship.

This is my first full day with the Rezound. If battery life sucks, I'm going to take it back. So far, I'm skeptical. I took it off the charger 2 hours ago. It's now at 80%. I'm using it the same way I used my previous phone. I'm playing media through the external speaker. That's it.

Well, I guess I'll find out whether it was the phone or not. I have a new phone and battery being overnighted to my door. Sad story, I went to a brick and mortar corp store and they totally balked on helping me. Said my wife just "wasn't used to it yet" since it's 4G...even though the battery went down 12% in 3-4 mins of their looking through the phone settings! They tried to make changes to basically shut off everything that makes it a smartphone and that was their attempt at a resolution. 4G fringe area? Nope, I get full bars on my LTE phone.

Left that store and found instant resolution at another store who contacted vzw on my behalf and got the new one headed my way after they noted a 7% reduction when looking through the settings for a few minutes. In all, I lost 27% in a 40 min span of dealing with the 2 stores.

Should have just called vzw myself but unfortunately, I had to drive to my wife's work to get the phone so I figured I'd try the old fashioned route of talking to a live person. Here's hoping for greener pastures ahead.
