Battery life

Yeah six days of ownership in and I have yet to overuse it to the point where it died before I got home at night. I will not be buying the belly bloat so unless they make something that fits the standard case backing Im stuck with 1500mah and it does seem to be enough to get thru a "full day" on a charge. Now of course I have ordered a car charger and second charger just in case

Well, you all sound much more informed in all things cellular than I. And that's great for me because I am always looking for help and hope to be of help myself sometimes.

Gotta tell you though, after 2 days with my Fascinate, I am astounded at how fast the battery drains. Maybe I'm just not used to android phones since that's what you all seem to be comparing it to. But my BB Storm could go for a good couple days on one charge (which shows you that I am not using it that much). With the same lack of use however, this Samsung sucks it up. I start my day around 6 and am home about 12 hours later and it's barely alive. Now, maybe that's good. As I said, all I am comparing it to is the Storm.

Any chance on a general list as to things to have on and things to not have on, on this phone?

It is checking email . A gmail account and a imap business account.

Thanks in advance for the help.

If you search the forums you will find numerous threads on your various questions already. Some of the common drainers that can and arguably should be off to improve battery life: are Live Wallpaper, GPS, WiFi, BT and email frequency syncing. I keep GPS off all the time I just dont use it. WiFi I turn on only as need. I do tend to keep BT on since 90% of my phone calls I take via the earpiece. My 2 gmails are sync'd but my hotmail I have only checked once per hour. As far as Live wallpaper goes I still like the fade but soon and probably very soon I will return to static wallpaper because Im beginning to learn it is a substantial battery drainer.
Also in my experience I've found the SF will give you right around 5hours of heavy duty usage. I'm talking display lit and either using/running apps or games, using Internet or WiFi, texting or emailing. So yeah if you are on your phone 20-30 minutes per hour you've probably looking at 10-15 hours of use before its dead. Overall this is above the average for most of today's Android phones with the default battery. DX is king of battery life. But no this is a different universe from a BB.

Thanks for your time on this saps. I will look around for other threads. And thanks for the advice.

Quickly..

BT? Told you I was a noob:eek:

NVM... BlueTooth .... gotcha
Yup :D
The search function here is very good in this forum. There is a wealth of knowledge here and very likely any questions or concerns you got, there's probably a thread on it already. Happy learning

I watch 6 20-25 min sitcoms on my commutes
15 min of talk
30 gtalk msg
20 texts
15 min of web surfing

14.5 hours since unplugged and 35% left

Hi, just curious. How do you watch the shows/sitcoms on the phone? Is there an apparently?

Hi, just curious. How do you watch the shows/sitcoms on the phone? Is there an apparently?

I use the Windows Movie Maker from Windows Vista to convert my recorded TV shows from my home theater PC to a portable format for the road.

I have to say that I am truly impressed with the battery on this phone. Bluetooth for 2 hours, WiFi on some of the day, moderate to heavy use including 1 1/2 hours phone calls, 2 push mail accounts and the usual first 24 hours with a phone constant turning on and off to admire - and I couldn't get the thing down to the 20% warning...my Dinc would have been recharged twice by that time

been useing the phone for a week now and i do use atk and have it set for auto kill each hour. and use the power widget to quickly turn down the brightness. wifi off, bt on, gps off
bt im easily getting over a day and i stream tons of internet radio and tv
Don't use ATK's autokill functionality.
Android's memory management will do that for you automatically and autokill can cause more problems.

My first day ~1pm 47% charge out of the box. It lasted with me downloading all my apps from my Nexus one to it over Verizon 3g, messing with it for ~1 hour (heavily) and by the time i got home ~ 5:30pm it had 20% of the battery. I proceeded to talk on the phone for 30-45min and got the battery down to 15%. I surfed the internet for a bit. At 5% i decided to try and kill the battery fast so i could charge it from zero ~6:15pm. I opened pandora, turned on bluetooth wireless, cranked the volume and streamed music for 20min. This dropped the battery 2%. I then opened maps and navigated it to work to drain it faster. By 6:40 i had killed the last 3%.
I am very impressed at this point. So i charged it like they recommend for the EVO with charging it off to 100% then on till 100% and repeat 3 times.

Day 2 included alot of Gtalk with the wife, 2 hours of internet browsing and more app downloads. After a 9 hour day I had 56% of the battery left. I left it over night from 12:40am until 7:30 am and it had only lost 4% in standby.
Again I am very impressed.

Before this phone I had a Nexus One that would get me through a day at work and maybe 1 hour afterward. This phone's battery is amazing.

At all times i have been using the coral active wallpaper, auto brightness (never thought it was too dark) and GPS services as I use Locale.

Battery is way, way better then my Inc. I use Brightness Level and can set it to 20% and still see the screen, awesome! I can go all day and not need to plug the phone in to the nearest outlet, It's even possible for me to play an hour of Homerun Battle 3D and still get through the whole day. And like everyone here I use active applications widget, that was so smart of Samsung.

Removed the phone from the charger at 6:40am went to school forgot to bring my usb so i could plug-in to a computer, got back from school at 6:30pm. Battery was at 10%. Facebook twitter, no emails, minimal browsing, but i showed off the live wallys to some friends. Great phone so far..

Live wallpaper Im discovering is arguably the #1 battery drainer. Check your battery log like most of us Display is likely your #1 by a large margin

I would download a power mapper if you are getting horrible battery life. Some apps are know to not allow the phone to go into a sleep state and eat up battery. Today I had moderate use and 12 hours later with a 45min navigation trip i have 39% of the battery. I haven't done anything special to get battery life and i do run the coral live wallpaper.

Dang. This phone doesn't cease to impress. 15 hrs unplugged. Phone conversations, internet, a few emails, lots of texting, and playing music for two hours with the stock speaker cranked to max, and lots of gaming.

I have 60% battery left. No joke. That's crazy. I am really impressed. I put AutoKiller back to optimum. No more stutters and killer battery life to boot. I've even been showing of the flashlight app to practically everyone I'm showing my new phone to. This battery life is plenty for me, and I'm getting a lot of usage out of this device.

Also, it's rooted, and I have launcher pro installed. Screen brightness is set to auto, and I have the power save features on. But in bright sunlight it cranks it up so I can see it just fine (several times today while outdoors).

Yeah I end up at the end of the day still having quite a bit left so I lie in bed sometimes trying to drain her down or at least I did the first few days. After 4-5 complete charge-discharges I think she's probably gtg now.

Yea this is true. I am using the Nexus One live wallpaper and I still get a day's worth of battery life. I unplug my phone from the charger around 930am and throughout the day I abuse my phone:

  • Constant messaging. When I say constant, I really mean constant. I probably send and receive around 150-200 messages a day.
  • Facebook surfing and web browsing.
  • Several phone calls. All of which usually last around 30-45 minutes.
  • Constant music player usage. I walk from class to class on campus so I am always listening to my music. Also I get sick of songs half way into them, so I also frequently wake my phone to go into the music player and switch songs which also drains battery.
After all this, I still get home from classes at 7pm with about 30% left of battery. I wonder how much better my battery will get if I get a solid black background considering how well the SAMOLED displays do blacks.

That looks pretty darned good.

After all I say about battery saving tweaks and techniques, I do have to admit that I'm accustomed to the phone I just came off of, an Eris, and having to do those things to get a good, long day's use from the device and have it over 35% or so at bed time.

This Fascinate, though, seems be a different story altogether; in the first place it sports a processor that is not only faster but more efficient than the 568Mhz in the Eris.

It's a different animal, even though the Android OS is pretty close to the same on both (when do we get 2.2 btw? ;)).

We'll see how it goes as I start doing more with it and getting into my routine of watching various David Letterman clips, news videos and slide show making from Nebraska football games. ;)

These battery threads always make me laugh. Hey I get a day and a half, I get a whole day with extremely heavy use, or on the flip side, my battery sucks, dies in 2hrs with heavy use. I'm not on the unicorn side of the fence, this battery along with the Incredible, EVO, and Nexus one SUCK! They all drain way to fast, this may be a tad better then the other 3 three that I just mentioned, but still not made for a heavy user. Mine dies within 4 hrs of a full charge, and yes all the settings are right. This is just the nature of the beast with Android phones in my experience. A car charger, and charger in the office is just a way of life.

we have to realize that everybody is different in their usage. One person's heavy use is another's light to moderate use. The first three days of my use on the SF was 8-10 hours of exploring, downloading and setting up apps, playing with them, web surfing, email, etc. so the screen was on almost all day. With new battery fully charged, it was unplug at 6-7 am and full drain to dead at 8-9 pm. Much better than regular usage of my soon to be gone iphone 3gs so I'm happy with it so far. Just get the bugs fixed and 2.2. ;)
