Battery life?

I'm not getting worked up about it. It's clear to me that though various sources (notice the lowercase "s") do their best to give good info, the configurations they're running are unknown and may have no bearing on the finished product.

I remember him saying he was getting 6 hours. I don't recall if that was on LTE. If this can double or nearly double TB time on LTE...

All skepticism aside... and who wants to sit around and split hairs over this configuration and that configuration

It is still not great to have these rumors going before it even gets here - and this is a rumor mentioned in more than 1 place. It can change the whole interest level for me.

Agree battery life is deciding factor for me. I do not want to have to charge the phone 3 times a day like with thunderbolt.

Ikr, I had my tbolt yesterday just sitting in my pocket(wasn't even using it) and after 4 hours I pulled it out and it only had 25% battery left

I agree that lousy battery life would be a buzzkill and make the phone unworkable for me. BUT we don't KNOW what battery size he has nor the clock speed nor the software level nor what he's doing with the phone. Until I get it in my grubby hands, I'm just taking the info with a grain of salt.

This is the problem with me being an engineer. I realize how complex testing is and how many variables there are. If he's downloading torrents for hours (as someone mentioned in the main thread), that wouldn't be typical use for me, so the data is invalid as it applies to my use case.

Besides, I'm not convinced some of these guys aren't yanking our chains. After the announcement P3(whatever) made a comment on Twitter that Verizon customers shouldn't be worried YET, then several days later incredulously claimed everyone should calm down. He planted the doubt then acted like people were morons for believing in it. I suspect he's on a power trip.

are you using custom roms? I can go a whole day without charging. 1 hour or so of phone use. Texting, a phone call or two.

Ya I'm on liquid 3.0 and what I reported isn't normal for me, I was just using it as an example of how bad it sometimes is
But I can never go a full day, how do u manage that?

That's the part of the problem. The TBolt doesn't perform consistently. One day I can be at 40% when I leave work on the stock battery. Other days I'm throwing it on the charger 2 hours before I leave work.

Usage on those particular days could be very similar but my results very drastic.

EDIT: If the Nexus has terrible battery life then I'll be passing on it. I'd love to have a Nexus phone but I'm not going to try to live with poor battery performance. These devices are to much of a premium to have to play this game.
Like it's been said before, we won't know until devices get out into the wild.

I don't put much stock in what those testers are saying on battery going back and forth. Kind of BS to me without any details. Of course nobody wants sucky battery but I don't think Nexus with heavy Google's influence in developing will be like Tbolt. As long as it's close to Charge or better, I'm fine with that as I usually charge from computer USB at work in the middle of day.

Another point to keep in mind is you really can't expect battery life like 3G phones in 4G LTE phone. That's like expecting Corolla MPG when driving Lexus RX, or Focus MPG when driving V8 Mustang.

After a horrible experience with a release day TBolt (maybe it's improved some with firmware releases - I have no idea), I am NOT looking to go back to half-day battery life (or less!).

I've wanted this phone for what seems like a long time. This throws quite a bit of cold water on my "wants".

Maybe the variance from tb to tb is skewed. I use bamf roms. Ever since the change from stock i could go a whole day with near moderate use. My phone is also consistent. 8-12% on wifi from 1am to 10 idle. At work with 4g about the same on idle.

If the gn can squeeze 2 maybe 3 more hours over the tb... Awesome.

When I purchased my Droid Incredible, I also purchased a higher capacity battery that fitted into the same space as the original battery. Will there be a similar type battery for the Galaxy Nexus?

I believe when BMX said he only got 6 hours of battery life he followed up saying that he also used 4 gigs of data over lte at during that time. That is some very heavy usage.

I cant see battery life being much different the the SG2 , and the battery life on that unit is awesome,,,

my GF just got that phone and Im blown away by its battery life,,

for the first 2 weeks of the phones life I like to get them down to 10% before a recharge,, getting near the end of the 2 weeks,, and with heavy heavy usage cant get it to that at the end of the day now,, so stopped that process,,, with normal use she can go 2 days on a charge

But this is lte+larger hd screen= ton of battery drain

Should be. I mean the stratosphere has a 1800mah battery and it looks to fit in the same size space as the nexus, so maybe that battery will be able to be used if nothing else.

4.65'' screen... of course the battery life will probably suck.

That's moot point because bottom 0.3" is black for software buttons on nexus most of time. Remember this is SAMOLED screen, so black consumes nearly zero power. So I think Nexus screen will drain similar power as 4.3" screen on SGS2.

even saying that about the screen it is still an lte phone and we know how rough lte is on the phone's battery.

Yes but the resolution of the display on the SGS2 is 800x480 vs 1280x720 HD on the GNex. Won't having to push more pixels drain more battery?
