This is what confuses me, I don't seem to be getting the same battery as others! Can you tell me what other features you have turned on / off?
It seems a lot of people's N5s are varying. For me, this is what I turned off.
Auto sync: OFF. I manually sync apps, and push notifications do the rest.
Location Sharing: OFF
Location History: OFF These two are mainly because I don't want Google to always know exactly where I am. Plus, they are constantly checking your location, which means less battery life.
I have location set to battery saving, I hardly use google maps enough to need pinpoint accuracy. Even so, I can use it like a normal paper map that you can't talk to and just guide myself like we used to have to do.
My screen brightness is usually on auto, because adjusting it all the time is too much work. lol
I have Google Now and Ok Google activated because I use those two features frequently. Especially since they are integrated with GEL (which I am loving).
I also frequently check my battery status to see what apps are using the most battery. I try to make to get it so screen is #1 and google services are #2. I've already sacrificed a few of my favorite apps because they would DRAIN the battery.
Last but not least, turning off your LTE/Wifi when not using it will help greatly. I keep my LTE on always, but that is only because I know I can make it through the day on one charge. I charge my phone before I go to bed because I don't like to leave it on the charger after 100% I keep it above 90% before I fall asleep and I am usually left with 40% when I get home from work the next day around 5pm. So my battery fairs pretty well with these settings. Better than what I upgraded from, and definitely more than 17 minutes screen time. I usually have around 4 hours a day or more of screen on.
I have BatteryGuru which does that automatically for other apps but I'll go check my Google apps too
And by location to local do you mean GPS only?
I used to use this app on my HTC One X because the battery on that thing was horrendous even with the built in HTC power saver. BatteryGuru helped a TON on that phone, which is why I was confident in it's ability with my Nexus 5. Well sadly, I hardly noticed a difference on the N5. Actually, my battery was worse because even though BatteryGuru saved some battery, it was constantly running, so even with the screen off it drained battery. With BatteryGuru installed my N5 would drain 25-30% overnight, after uninstalling I only lose around 3% overnight. So imo it is not worth it on the N5.
