Battery Life...

Thanks tex, and thanks rg for the beer offer lol knew I could make connections with out a fb, I had the opv as well, rocked jerryscripts rom for the longest, that was my second rooted phone, which I still take on camping trips as a tune player with the extended battery and in airplane mode it rocks the full weekend easy

I figured out a solution (well, workaround) to the battery drain under 4G issue. You need to be root and have Tasker, XposedFramework, Intelli3g module. If there is interest, I may write up a guide for it, but all I did was write a series of tasks that switched you from CDMA to CDMA/LTE mode with the end result being that 4G is turned on only if your screen is on and you are not connected to WiFi.

I'd like to see a write up on how to set this sucker up def beneficial

Not really sure where to post this but part of my question/dilemma relates to this topic.

I am trying to decide between the older Galaxy S3 and the newer LG Volt. After doing quite a bit of research I am still on the fence. For the money it seems the S3 you get more ram/storage/processor vs newer os/ greater battery/ cool overlay app features.

I have a Samsung galaxy victory atm.

I seem to be leaning towards the volt for its larger battery capacity.

Basically just wondering in a comparison with the LG Volt which has an excellent battery, can't you just buy an extended battery (sold on amazon I think) that is something along the lines of 7000+ mah for the S3 and have a battery that would be x2 better than the 3,000 mah battery for the volt?

and btw just wondering, why do they put the power/lock button on the side now where you hand goes to grip the device? If you are holding or tilting landscape it must be pretty common to lock the device? or no?

Thanks, appreciate any feedback.

There are a lot of problems posted all over the Internet about the S3's battery, charger port and other issues. I was looking at that phone too... I read quite a few post/reviews of people actually going back to the S2... lol

As for the power button, I have a slip on case and haven't had any issues with the power button on the side except getting use to it being there instead of on top :)

So far the Volt has awesome battery life and speed.

Hope this helps.

I'm a former s3 owner and I wasn't impressed. I had a s2, dropped it broke the screen and boost sent me a s3 last September. I used it until February this year. Battery life =horrible. I'll list the pros and cons as ive had this conversation many times. Samsung galaxy s3 pros over the Volt are internal storage 16 gb vs. 8, and better screen resolution. Also ram, the s3 has 2 gb vs 1 on the Volt . The s3 has a SLIGHTLY bigger screen. That's it. The Volt has the same 8mb camera. Same NFC technology and the eye reader that senses when you're looking at the screen. A Quad core processor in the Volt versus dual core on the s3. Same android version. I could be wrong but the s3 is 4.4.2 just like this phone could be 4.4.3 but that's a useless version due to the security issue and patch on 4.4.4. Now the Volts battery kicks the s3s butt. The galaxy s's 4g LTE doesn't compete with the sprint spark network @ all and again I've owned both. Also the s3 doesn't have the knock technology (which you will use and love, trust me) The IR blaster, I ran out of batteries in my Samsung tv remote 2 weeks ago and keep forgetting to get more batteries because I'm not inconvenienced. Don't get sucked into the "galaxy" name. The s3 was the ONLY game changer out of all 5 of them and it's just outdated at this point. The best specs of 2012 sure, but 2012 none the less. You have to remember these are 2 south Korean companies who are extremely similar technology wise. Like sisters almost. Lg very closely emulates samsung in almost every category they compete in. The galaxy name is huge but in my book lg wins this year as the G3 is a beast of a phone. Even samsung themselves are trying to get people to move on from the s3...

The ironic thing is this article was released today. . However you are very right with the extended battery. It would go a long way to help the s3. Just go with what feels right to you. That's my advice

Any updates on this issue other than turning LTE off all the time? Really like the phone and battery life is still terrific, but just can't help but wonder how much better the battery like could possibly be if this 100% TWOS bug really is acting as the top battery drainer on my phone like the battery settings seem to indicate that it is.

Any help or suggested solutions are greatly appreciated!

I think the issue is when surfing or downloading it allows the ringer to work without interruption to DL/surf.

I have noticed that on 3G when I pick up a call it stops my dl and I'm unable to open up web pages.
So I would have to assume that the disconnect would have to work both ways.
ie: TWOS would be directly related to the amount you surf/DL.

I can't verify if this happens on 4G atm.

Battery life is phenomenal even with all the surfing/DL'ing/Torrent activities.

Hope this helps :)

This is actual usage. Phone wasn't just sitting. I listen to music made phone calls and sent and received plenty of text messages. I have absolutely no complaints with the battery life on this phone. And this is average for me.

Yep, it's shockingly good! Seriously! My wife still charges it daily but it's usually around 75% when she plugs it in. Amazing!

This is my battery life so far using wifi/3G/LTE and a decent amount of usage. I have a some apps that are constantly syncing and at night I turn the data off when i go to sleep. Does this seem ok to you guys so far? Thanks.

I had tested mine with just wireless data enabled and it nearly hit 100 hours on battery.

Oh, I used it, too. Made phone calls, sent text messages, and checked email and social sites.

Am I the only one here with a slightly mediocre battery life? I have to constantly put my phone on airplane mode when I'm not using it so the battery doesn't drain. Only in airplane mode the battery life is pretty impressive, but for daily (heavy) use, I get like roughly an hour for every 10-15% of battery.

You might have a bad battery. I turn data off when working, but no matter what level of use, it easily gets through the day... 16+ hours.

Mine is the same. I uninstalled updates on Google Search which helped, I think. Before uninstalling updates I was going through 15-20% per hour, which is obviously unacceptable. Now I am back to around 5-15% per hour, depending on usage.

I think Google Search was causing my phone to constantly stay awake (even if screen was off). The stock alarm clock would not go off for me which was an ugly couple of mornings. Once I uninstalled Google updates it started working again. However, I am disappointed that I have to do that with this phone.

Any update on the high cell standby with no signal issue? My wife's is always high and her and I don't think the battery life is any better than her old Evo.

Yes, turn off LTE and use CDMA only to avoid that problem.

Double check to make sure 'google now' is turned of to maximize battery life.

I think I get mediocre life too, though I don't have the stats (most go over my head) to show it. :P Seems to be declining, too. Wondering if a replacement battery is in order.
