battery on android 2.2

I would like to hear how everyones battery is doing after upgrading to froyo on their vibrant's! On 2.1 my battery would not last a day and starting to kinda look the same on 2.2, maybe a little better! Are their any techniques you do to save your batter??? also, do you use a taskiller???

It's a bit early to say for me. I had some GPS issues, and spent some time trying to get a signal (which guzzles the battery).

However, one thing I've noticed is that some apps don't appear in the regular task killer now. I'm not sure if they did before the Froyo update. e.g. things like Google Maps no longer show up in the regular task manager (after holding down the home key).

How much percent of your battery goes from display?? mine is 70-80 and i think thats way too much.. how do you reduce? fyi- my screen is on low and its not on auto, no live wallpaper... and i got rid of my task killer b/c a lot of people said it does more harm then good!

Third Party applications were more damaging for sure. Samsung had a recommended way of stopping the process through the application manager with the Behold 2, they have a video on this tech talk they did discussing how to improve battery life with it.

I don't know the technical details of the Samsung installed task killer, however, if I have a question about a program, I have used it to stop processes. What's new in 2.2 update too is the ability to clear some ram unused ram up that was previously being used. I haven't studied up on this much myself. However, these options seem to help and be safe as they are factory installed.

My display percentage of frequent texting/calling today, is 60%.

As I have stated in another thread, that I duly think should be a sticky. I have stopped using the default messenger app in favor of one that I can have more control over, especially notifications. If I get a text from someone important to me, it can light up the display, it can vibrate, send sound notification of choice (if not on silent) per individual I choose. I use Handcent, you can probably do the same with ChompSMS.

However, if you use the default factory installed messenger app, and you have it to give you notifications of new text message, like who wouldn't want that, it will always fire up your display, per each text you get. If you get a lot of texts throughout the day, it would be in your favor to change to a third party messenger app, where you can disable the default notification feature, and you can control when you want the display to light up.

Give that a try. and hopefully that should help you out too in extending some battery life. On some tests I have done and reported here, I went from probably 5% per hour to 2% per hour of battery use. Of course, that varies based on what you are doing, but my initial and continuous use I find it to be the best way to approach that.

My battery has lasted almost twice as long and I had the GPS issue too but there is a gpsreset app on the market made by Samsung that fixed that for me. But otherwise the screen does take most of the power but it is still lasting alot longer for me anyway too. And I put it on the lowest setting and no automatic either.

You guys should really consider rooting/adding custom roms to your phones. Or at least just rooting it. My vibrant gets 2 days with moderate usage! I was a complete noob to rooting and it only took me like 5-7 minutes... makes a world of a difference

I've had stock 2.2 on for a week now and my battery life has drastically improved. I take it off the charger about 5:30am and by 10pm I still have 65-70% of battery left. Previous w/2.1 stock I was at 20% or less by that time of day. I am loving the new battery life!

My battery life went from 3-6 hours to 30-40 hours, tmobile, replaced my battery and even replaced my handset and the problem was 2.1 the entire time.

I have a marked improvement on my battery time, too. This morning I have been on the phone for about 3 hours, and I still have 75% battery life left. Previously, I would be under 50% battery life.

My battery is improved as well. In the middle of day 2 and still at 60% battery remaining. A fair amount of use too.

Also GPS locks on to 8 to 10 sats and has a 25 foot accuracy in a minute or two.

I have also seen a great improvement in battery life. Before, I would charge when I got home from work, but if I used it much in the evening I would have to charge by the afternoon of the next day. Now I am finding I still have around half of my battery left at the end of the day. However, it seems like the battery gauge in the notification bar may be less accurate than before. Like now the gauge looks like 90% full, but in the settings it shows 65%.

Since ive been using the stock 2.2, my battery has been real good. By the time i turn in for the night, its been on 18 and a half hours or close to it and i have anywhere from 21% to 29% remaining on the battery.

I have gotton 18 hours before on the custom 2.2 ROMs but not nearly as often. Its been everyday now. I will go back to the custom ROMs eventually as this stock 2.2 is a little laggy and slow compared to the custom 2.2 but im waiting to see if there will be a 2.2.1 for us. If not, then ill flash Axura again.

I'll be brief as I'm basically just repeating what everyone else has said, but before my custom ROM my battery would be at 40% by 2pm, with Nero V5 it was still in high 70s by that time and now that I've gone back to stock 2.2, it matches the ROM. Great improvement.

Took me about 15 hours to get to the low battery warning. Used it moderately all throughout the day and had a few long phone calls about 2 hours of talk time, texting throughout the day on top of apps/games. Significantly better than 2.1's battery capabilities.

I'm getting far worse battery times as well. within 2 hours of waking up and unplugging I was at 80%. Phone was idle/off sitting on my desk. Been this way all week since I upgraded last Monday morning. I have wifi on due to the new wifi calling and I have no signal in my house because of a metal roof. But I always had the wifi on with 2.1 as well.

I love 2.2, but it's eating my battery.

Same here. Battery life seems to have improved, but I always have to check "about phone" because the status bar icon is SO inaccurate.

Remember that the icon is not "percent left", it's "usage left at the current rates of usage since you unplugged it".. it's not just 4.1v on a downward linear bend. Number of uses over time since charge, plus idle time. The add-ons that show voltage left are pure "how much juice is left" meters.

I am just CHEWING through my battery - Juice Defender on, and I barely use the phone - just a few minutes a day, plus the occasional email ping. 12-13 hours and it's below 20 percent.

I think I will do a system reset and see what happens.

So it's been a couple of weeks now, and I would say that the battery life is probably a little better than before.

In particular, it seems to be much better when I don't use the phone much - compared to how it was on 2.1 when I didn't use the phone much. I guess there's some improvements in background application management. One thing I've noticed is that when I go to the task manager, there's often no active applications now.

glad this phone was free because im ready to sell it..my battery doesnt last a day which is unacceptable for me...I thought my iphone was bad but my iphone lasted twice as long as this piece of crap..they really expect peoplee to live with such subpar battery life?

When you have no signal your phone continuously searches for one, and in turn burns more battery. Put it on Airplane mode until you leave the area where you know you have no signal, you'll find better life.

Not sure if there's a way to keep the Wi-Fi signal running while you disable the network so you can keep using Wi-Fi calling though.

hated battery life since day 1-almost returned the phone....I'm a very light user, just a few phone calls a day, couple minutes of WiFi or 3g and 'the thing' never lasted 24hrs!!! After 2.2 update I'm stunned!!! I went from 1 day of light usage TO 6 DAYS!!! EASILY!!! Right now my 'battery indicator pro' shows unplugged for 100 hrs and 24% left! The app doesn't even go beyond 100 hrs :)
Its already 2ND time like this...again,I'm very light user.....duh,any1 knows wheres my charger ?!
Surprisingly this turnover makes me sad,I feel betrayed, that I bought phone with faulty OS or some kind of beta...
4 those that wonder how much of a heavy usage it can take now ? - tried only once so far:constantly played movies or games-11hrs....used to be like 4-5 hrs,so not much ....

Pros:wifi calling is a heckuva feature,finally can use skype,did I mention battery improvement ?? :)
Cons:alarm clock app went bananas-easy fix, couple ugly looking icons
