Help Battery problem Q/A thread.

Hi guys,

I charged my phone full last night and unplugged it around 8.30am this morning. As you can see from the attached pics, by 12.30pm my battery had reduced to 22%.

The screen time was around 1 hour 20 minutes at this point with voice calls about 10 minutes. The major battery drainer was the cell standby time which is exactly the same time as the battery on time of 3hours 51 minutes.

Seriously what is going on, how can cell standby be so much and how can i reduce it?

Any help would be great, as I cant believe that the battery life can be this poor. The battery just seems to be reducing even when I am not even using the phone.

Please help.

Cell Drain is a problem that needs fixing.

That usage should not leave you with 22%. Was it definitely 100% when you unplugged?

Yea, fully charged over night. Not been this bad until today, uninstalled some apps that might have been draining the battery but not made any difference. Getting quite worried about the battery life, word was that there was a firmware upgrade due which might resolve it but cannot seem to get the up date through my phone.

Am with the 3 network in UK.

Me too. My cell standby is higher thank yours and screen on and lasting much longer.

Maybe try purchasing "better battery stats" from market and look at partial wake and kernel wake...

So am i right in assuming that your battery stats are better. And what does "better battery stats" do and is there a free app that might do the same?

Cell standby should be high for everyone as it's a bug in the radio. The update fixed it for some but not others.

However, I think it's a duff battery (as long as you're 100% sure it was 100% charged when you unplugged it).

The screen using 57.69% of the total capacity of the battery after only 1 hour 20 minutes is definitely not normal.

I'd get it exchanged.

Who should I contact at looking to replace the battery, Three Network or Samsung UK

You can get BetterBatteryStats for free if you go to the XDA website where the author originally posted it. You just have to agree to the terms. Which are that you will not redistribute without permission (meaning you won't give it to anyone else). I think you also have to register on their forums to download the link, but I'm not sure about that.

However, there are some free alternatives on GPlay:

Badass battery monitor

Battery Monitor Widget - don't be confused, it's more than a widget.

Personally, I like Battery Monitor Widget the best, but Badass is good, too. BetterBattery is not very newbie friendly, IMO.

The % alone is not a problem. I'd be happy to see 60 or 70. The problem is the % given the time on.

Not sure where 57% comes from though?

I had a blonde moment and used a daft calculation - ignore the 57% :p It can't possibly be 57% of the total battery if it's only 45% of 78% of the battery!

Still, the battery is a duff for such a low screen time on. I get about 3.5-4 hours screen on before I'm as low as 22%!

Dunno. Depends on signal. 2 hours 2 minutes, 26% today for me.

Tis a bit wrong for op though

You're right; 2hr 12min screen on, 13% left.

Screen using 28%, cell standby 38%. Samsung needs to fix it..had no way near that level of drainage on my last two Android phones (desire and s2)

This is normal. Try Battery mix app. It tells you app that trains your battery. It's better then built in battery organizer.

I know. Our desires it barely registered

There's something wrong when cell standby is using more power than a 4.8" HD screen that's been on for two hours!

A lot of people on xda report that flashing different radios/modems solves the problem so I'm confident it can be fixed..I'm just not ready to root it yet.

If you are using a live wallpaper that will drain your battery quick. Also make sure your Gps is off as well. I also found out even with my Evo that if you use a battery maintenance program it will wipe your battery. If you have things programed for automatic updates that will drain your battery. If I do an automatic update, I set it for twice a day only! Things to consider!:)

The gps setting can be left on as it uses no power unless something is actively using gps. It's not like Bluetooth or wifi where it's constantly looking for things to connect to.

This. If the icon is not on the status bar, flashing, its not being used.

I charge it every night. Yesterday morning I got up for work, used it for 10-15 mins. Sent a few texts at work, used it a little at lunch and when I got home I was at 28% Didn't make any calls. My EVO was better than that.
I go into applications and I have a shit ton of stuff running. I don't know how to stop it. On my evo it was easy to stop the unwanted running programs. Do you guys believe in task killers? I never thought they really worked. Screen brightness is at regular and all I changed was the screen timeout to 2 mins. Didn't think that would matter since if I don't need the 2 min timeout I will force it to sleep anyways...

Got the usual apps, nothing crazy. Is this normal battery drain for the 2100 MAH?

P.S. Barely used it this morning in the last hour and it's at 93%.

Task killers, NO!

We cant tell you if your usage is normal or not.

We would need to see 3 screen shots at least.

1) The main battery page.
2) The graph detail of the battery page
3) Your screen battery usage page.

And also helpful;

4) Your cell standby battery page
