Help Battery problem Q/A thread.

Yeah battery life is good. The cell standby issue, I think the cause is reporting.

Basically a guy on XDA says the battery profile for the SGS2 was the radio uses 2mA. On the SGS3 its set as 34mA. He pretty much stated this was an error on Samsung's part.

I decompiled my framework and removed the 4, now it looks more like this:

Is this the mod that you posted?

The mod I posted was simply a more automated method of decompiling and recompiling the framework-res.apk because you have to use 2 different versions of apk tool to get it done with ICS and do some switcheroo.

The mod just makes it easier by moving all the files around for you and telling you what to do.

However, if you use the Mod to decompile, at the "Make your amendments" stage, you just go to c:\apk\build\res\xml\power_profiles.xml and look for two lines that say "radio.on" and have <value>34</value>. Just take the 4 off both rows.

Then recompile.

If you have poor reception say good bye to your battery on android. I switched from Sprint to ATT because Sprint service in my area had been getting worse and worse, my Evo got about 6 hours and the GS3 gets a full day with heavy use easily

how's your usage? do you often use the internet? calls? web surf? facebook? games?

I would say 33% email (5 accounts with 1 push), camera and sms. 33% using normal apps, browsing the appstore and things like that and 33% web browsing and games and 1% phone calls.

This is an updated capture today about 5-6 hours after I posted the picture a couple posts above.

I am on 1 full day and almost 7 hours (31 hours) usage and still have 17% left. FWIW, I am not even sure why the maps is still there, I used that about 10 minutes about 6pm last night.

wow! how do you use your S3? that's very good time!

am i suppose to think now that my battery is fine?

12 hours and 30 min = 29%

screen 48% - 3 hours usage time

cell stand by 31% - 12 hours and 30 min usage.

occasional Facebooking, not even20 min calls, check emails, whatsapp, im+ pro, opened some programs during the day and updated 2 apps.

i'm using the international version which is quad core and 1gb ram.

so you guys think my battery is fine?

many thanks

Ok here's some screen shot I took just now.

I got my SG3 on Saturday. And after installing CPU spy I noticed that my new phone wasn't going into deep sleep when not in use.

I installed BetterBatteryStats and check partial wakelocks and found "Backup" process was keeping my phone awake.

To stop this process go Menu, Settings, Backup and Reset, and take tick out of Back up my Data.

This doesn't fix the Cell standby issue but my phones been off charge for 15hrs 30mns, Screen on 1hr 17mins and I'm still on 75% batt.

I monitored it today because I still think battery life should be better from a 2100 mAh. Every hour it uses exactly 4% battery while it's sleeping. As far as I know, nothing is running. Anyone else?

Have you drained your battery yet? If not, you might want to try that. Cut everything on that you can, till the phone cuts off on it's own, then charge your phone to 100%, and then do the same thing again. After 2 or 3 times of this, your battery will be broken in, and you should be getting better battery life.

On my wife's S3, she got a day and a half before I had to plug it in to charge, and that was with 6 or 7 hrs of screen on time. You can also check the brightness of your screen, and make sure it's not on all the way, it could also be very poor signal in your area and your phone is constantly trying to connect to the tower, and that will kill your battery, use wi-fi whenever you can.

You could also check to see how often your apps are updating, if you use facebook, it defaults to push, or update every hr, so check those, also, the same thing with your email app, if you don't need to have your email set to push, then change it to update every 2 or 4 hrs, and then if you need to check before then, just go in to the app and refresh.

Also remember, if that doesn't work, you have 14 days to exchange it and get a new one, but, you want to make sure they will have one to replace yours with. You don't' want to wait for the 14 days to be up, because they will give you hell when you try and return/exchange it. They will you and make you warranty it out and pay a $200 deductible. They tried that crap on my me once on my HTC Evo, I was having issues after 3 or 4 weeks. I finally got them to see that it was a manufacturer defect and should be covered under the 1 yr warranty.

I forgot to mention that aside from. I using the international version with quad core, my 3G is always on 24/7. Is my battery performing normally?

Is your 3G on all the time? Mine has unlimited promotion so it ON all the time. I can't even make it last for 15hrs even with light usage.

Yes, it's on but I use wifi most of the time. I can use wifi at work and home so only in 3G areas a couple hours a day when traveling.

I ended up 1 day 10 hours (34 hours) before my battery needed to be charged.

I don't know, I got 34 hours (see my posts), from my last battery charge.
