Battery life is something that seemingly all of the Androids are fighting through.

It doesn't matter how much battery they cram into the phone you'll always end up with people complaining about it.

If it isn't because they can't get through a normal day it's because they can't get through a normal day with 6 home screens of widgets and email polling every 5 minutes over the cell network.

Hmmm Mine was at 100% this morning. I spent anout 30 minutes on it all day, yet at 4:30 it is down to 15 % and shows 98% up time. Maybe I can complain a little ????

How are you reading up time? What apps are you running?

I've been off the charger 10 hours so far today and am at 40%.

I have 3 home screens and no widgets running. If I could make it have 1 home screen I would do that. Background data off, GPS off, Wireless off, Bluetooth off, 1 phone call, 1 text message and 3 mins of a browser being open. The rest of the time, the screen was off. The phone was all but dead in under 4 hrs. Awake time = 99%. I'd hate to see what kind of time I get if I actually used my phone for what it was built to do.

Yep, I use SpareParts too. I go to Device Info > Battery History > Other Usage/Since Last Unplugged. There you will find "Running" & "Screen On". I would love it if the "Running" and "Screen On" equalled each other. That would indicate that the phone was always sleeping when the screen is off. That would be a great battery saver.

Here's my quick update: It is not a battery issue. It is a battery meter issue- which can be fixed by fully discharging your battery (till the phone dies) then plugging it in and letting it charge fully (I did my full charge overnight).
I did this full discharge/ charge TWICE (two days in a row) and now I am perfectly happy with my battery life (or meter readings- I shoud say).

BOTTOM LINE: WHEN YOU GET YOUR MOMENT, DO A FULL DISCHARGE, THEN FULL CHARGE TWICE IN A ROW AND YOU WILL BE PERFECTLY HAPPY WITH YOUR BATTERY (METER READINGS).

:):):):):)
The meter was decided to be the problem rather than the battery several pages back.

I am aware of that, since I have been following (and reading all of) this post for approx 5 days now. I was simply giving MY input regarding the "full discharge/ charge" experiment that some of us had decided to try, and then I also posted it in a way that was very clear and concise for other posters that only skim over long threads and continue to complain that their battery sucks.
I will try not to give my input anymore. I forgot that these forums do so much better without people's input and updates and helpful summaries.

definitely a meter issue, and mine is not getting better. Tonight will be the third full drain recharge, and the meter is still crazy. I took off charger at 8 and was at 5% by 3 p.m. It is now 10 p.m. and the thing just won't die. I have been watching videos, streaming pandora, surfing the web....you name it. I have used the phone 10 times more the last 7 hours and it is holding up. If the meter were more accurate I would be totally happy with batter life...would also like the option to use the backlights and the camera even when at 5%...if it dies on me so be it...don't like the automatic shutdowns.

I wouldn't take these comments to heart. Personally, I read everyones input to help get a general idea of the problem and solution.

That and 4 pages in, there's still people who aren't convinced that it's a software issue.

Hi everyone. I got the moment three days ago and I experienced the same battery "problem" that others have. I am convinced that it is not a battery problem. The problem is the battery meter. My meter shows 80% within five minutes of removing the moment from the charger. Then with gmail use only the meter read 40-60% within a couple of hours. By early afternoon I am between 15-30%. I was concerned because at times I need the phone A/C free from 7AM to 9PM or later. It really is a great phone with a few minor annoyances so rather than return it I downloaded "battery hours" to seem how much time time remains on the charge. Surprisingly, at 15% the estimate was a couple of hours of continuous use even after it was on for 14 hours. That gives me enough confidence to keep the phone.

This is exactly what has happened to me today. Phone hardly used at all maybe 30 minutes from 7am till about 4pm. Battery was at 15% by 4pm. I have since been running the crap out of it. You Tube, Music, games Navagation (when it would actually work) and finally at about 9:30 pm it died. I am now charging again. I did this yesterday as well so I am hoping this time around the meter will become stable. The main drawback to this issue is some apps will not even open if it thinks the battery is that low and the screen is very dim. That alone makes this issue a big one. The battery itself seems ok, but the meter not reading it right makes apps and such think the phone is almost dead.

Download Spare Parts from the app store and check your phone's awake time. I have started another thread on this forum to address the issue.

It's under Battery History > Other usage > Since Last Unplugged

I have Spare Parts, That is how I knew the up time was over 95% today. ANd have no idea why it was so high. I disabled everything in the apps messaging program and have Handcent as default now and the up time started improving.

That is what I am seeing as well. Have been staying around 25% usage now using Handcent. Tomorrow will the the first full day of this. We'll see.

After draining the phone it has been on the charger for about 2 hours and showed 100%. That seems awfully fast to get to 100%. I took it off the charger and within 5 minutes the phone dropped to 80%. I hooked it up to the USB it went down to 70% in about 30 more seconds, then back up to 80% a second later. I think 2 hours is no where near enough time to get this thing to 100% yet that is what it says. There may be an issue with the meter while charging as well. The phone charger thinks it is done but it is really not. This is getting old real fast with this phone. While typing this message it has dropped back to 70% but my wake time on Spare Parts has dropped down to the 50's so the phone is now sleeping when I have it in standby. I want to like this thing but to like it you have to be able to use it right????

On the Pre, one of the tricks to extend battery life was to leave the WiFi on. It's counter intuitive, but what happens is the WiFi radio uses a LOT less power that the EVDO radio, so if there is an open hotspot in range, the phone uses it instead of EVDO.

I don't know if this works for the Moment, but it might be worth testing.

I drained the battery twice and did full charges but still can't seem to hold at 100% for more than a few minutes. In fact the fall to 80% is pretty quick. That said it has been a mother trying to kill the battery in this thing.

Yesterday, my battery dropped very quickly. It was my first day with open home, weatherbug widget, and traffic app(no widget). Again though, the fall to 30% was very quick. A few hours of very light use, but then trying to drain it to dead in the evening was impossible. GPS, WIFI, Bluetooth, Sync all full boar while I was surfing and streaming Pandora for over 2 hours and I could not kill the thing.

The battery seems to be fine. I do not like how fast it gets to %15 and dims all the settings. Seems like below %15 is when you get the majority of the battery.

Seriously, if they fixed the GPS and battery Meter, this would be the phone.

after 3 full dicharges and full recharges im still not seeing improvement in my meter however my battery lasted for about 17 hours before finally shutting off. not bad battery life for moderate use. I'm hoping some kind of update comes soon for this issue. was at 100% for a couple minutes then dropped to 80 again 20 minutes.

Yeah I know, but hey... It's the internet, lol.

you mean we shouldn't expect to find what we're looking for without doing a little reading to find what we're looking for... since there are four previous pages listing the same problems people are talking about here? lol

I agree. And the best part about those problems are that they are completely fixable! Many other phones have issues with the hardware, which obviously cannot be updated/fixed.
But with this phone, the only complaints have been software issues. Meaning that, I believe, we are one update away from a perfect phone.
