Root Battery Question?

All,
I'm very new to rooting. Actually, decided to root my Evo yesterday. And has I have read, using unrevoke and following the instructions exactly it was very easy. I have noted significant improvement in speed of my phone. However, that brings up another observation, which has very likely already been addressed and talked about, I'm seeing what appears an increased in battery drain. I hope I'm saying this correctly. The rom(?) I have installed is the All-In-One Sprint Lovers ROM. I've installed SetCPU but not really sure it is doing anything since max CPU speed is 998 MHz even though I've moved the slider for max speed to 776 MHz. My question: is this the correct rom for adjusting the CPU speed and if there is something else I need to do to improve battery performance? The phone has been unplugged (at the time of this writing) for 1h 33m 49s, Battery at 88%, and Cell standby: 27%, Android System: 25%, Phone idle: 21%, Wi-Fi: 19%, and Display: 8%. Under Standby Time without a signal is 0%.

If there is another thread or whatever I need to be looking at, I'd appreciate it if someone pointed me in that direction. In addition, am I worrying about nothing? Thanks. I now believe in the rooted Evo. :)

first off congrats on rooting!!!!!!!
i think what you need to look into is a custom kernel. the rom you have i beleive has the htc stock kernel #15.
in ref.#3 of my sig you can read a little bit about kernels. you can get most kernels from ref#2.

if you want to overclock your rom you have to be on a custom kernel. however, i think with the stock kernel you can underclock it but you have disable the perflock setting. here is some info on setcpu: http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all-things-root/210253-setcpu-guide.html
