As for the blackhole, my work is like that too so I just put it on flightmode in work. The whole shopping centre I'm in is shit for most networks. I dunno how the Vodafone store in the centre manage to show customers the functions of the phones!? This'll be why when i bought my phone from Phones 4 u, the guy gave me the white handset "Orange" exclusive. So I wouldn't catch on, the sneaky bastard!

Just using the standard screen protector invisishield - 4" version of course

Never had a problem, apart from installation, the film is correct length but too wide for X10 - find it troublesome to cut and maybe a bit too sticky to apply perfectly

but as for performance, tend to keep it on for about a month then change it for new 1 - get 2 films in the box, and boxes buy 1 get 1 half price @ Carphone Warehouse
 
I got the full body 1 and it's already been cut into the different panels for each part of the phone, including the power button and usb port. Then lens cover was already in place in the back panel so that was easy enough to put on but I've had to remove that as well cos it got lint in it and couldn't take pictures. I just feel like it was a total rip off and when I emailed them to complain, they asked me what the measurements of the strips were and the actual phone measurements. Didn't they do that before they started selling it? I was really annoyed with them so didn't want to reply till I'd calmed down, then forgot about it (Oops!) Well, as long as the screen is still protected I'm sure I'll be fine, and it that eventually goes I'll buy the screen cover only instead of the full 1 again.
 
My english partner has an Xperia X 10
and absolutely loves it

She loves it better than her iphone 3g :)

i'm mad that her Timescape works and updates on it's own instead of me having to do it manually when i had mine for those 3 days lol

To be frank m8 you don't need anything more than a screen protector on - and with how sticky this stuff is it should last a while

go into TimeScape - press menu - select settings - update automatically

that should be what the problem is from what you said

well i called rogers after the phone froze for a ocuple hours and i had to yank its battery. guy tells me i need a new sim card as mine is from 2008. so i do. its a smidge better but still a little laggy. havent noticed it crash yet or anything but it still slows down at times when im trying to type a text and i can get 4 or 5 words ahead of whats popping up. gonna see if 2.1 can save this phone from a death by hammer, lol

Unlike some poor souls, I haven't had any hardware issues, and I reckon the hardware is pretty awesome. 5 years ago my desktop machine didn't have the specs my phone has!! (well, not quite, but you know what I mean :) )

FYI Sony, pointlessly reimplementing the functionality of software I already have REALLY REALLY BADLY is not the hallmark of genuine innovation, nor does it make me a happy bunny.

So why do they do it? Why can I not buy a phone that comes with stock Google Android that I can update whenever I like the look of a new release? I mean after sales care is a terrible drain of resources, and you could in one fell swoop, make all software issues Google fault surely?

(After all, I have had many Sony Ericsson phones in the past, and can categorically state they can't write software for shit.)

Oh yeah I remember why, because if I'm not reminded every 5 minutes that Sony Ericsson made my phone I might forget! But unfortunately, all the things that remind me of that fact generally make me go "WHY SONY?? FOR THE LOVE OF GOD WHY!!" - which seems just slightly counter productive at the least.

In short, I think 2.1 will fix all my problems. But I'm not waiting for a Sony update, I'm waiting for someone to crack the damn bootloader. Because then I can load the software that I choose onto the pocket computer I own. Just like every other computer I have ever owned. And if I don't like whats available, then hell, I can learn C and change anything I want. Huzzah for Open Source.

So yeah, do I use it 50 times a day? Yes. Do I do that because it is shite? No.

But do I think the guys who actually designed it cringe every time they are reminded what the marketing department decided to do? Hell yes. Its an embarrassment.

P.S. And as for multitouch I couldn't care less. Ever seen someone try and use an iPhone with one hand? Laughable!! At least I can hold my X10 like a phone (which it is) and still use it with just my thumb.

P.P.S Just in case you are reading this and the bootlader has been cracked... please let me know!!

I would not ... there are my thoughts on SE Xperia X10

  • Worst software keyboard. Yup Period! Considering it was released as a social phone where intended market would type lots of status updates and sms's the keyboard is absolutely shit with absolute crap dictionary or autocorection. Learn from the HTC one or iPhone
  • Idiotic number of screen taps to make a phone call. How hard is it to get this right? It's meant to be a phone right ? no!
  • timespace ... what a waste of resources ... i mean if i can send sms or actually DO updates from it yup it's all good but no.... that's not possible but SE needed something with flying little windows to impress users
  • no 16mil colors ... yup i can tell the difference between an iPhone4 and the X10! was the Xperia meant to be a social phone? yes! now why can i see banding in photos and why is the UI designed to hide the fact that it cant display 16M colors? ever tried a proper background picture? looks crap ... tried playing a movie on it? yup looks crap as you can see the pixelation/banding due to lack of color depth
  • there is a good one! the USB port, who in his right ****ing mind decided to put it on the top and have a cover over it? Honestly now what nitwit came out with that bright idea? this stops anyone from making a proper desk stand for it and when you have 4" of screen real estate it would make an awesome display for weather, time, calendar etc on your desk or night stand. I know i'm not the only one that before sleep with lights off might want to charge the phone ... well do i have to turn the lights on so i can fiddle with the ****ing usb port so i can get the ****ing thing in? yup! that plastic clasp is absolutely shit. SE should fire that architect or engineer who came up with crap like that.
  • This phone was designed for Elf's! i mean apparently they have good hearing, we don't. The volume is too low and in a street you can hardly hear a convo, i have to use a bluetooth. If you think about it ... it's only a $2 speaker that they could of used instead of a .50 cent one and a software tweak to make us all happy! Other phones don't have this issue so it's not just me.
  • Want another one? the Alarm! oh please SE why oh why do i have to press the snoose button within a minute? and why won't my alarm work when my phone is switched off?
 
lots of good points, others include the terrible ring tones they provide you, especailly in the alarm, i just want an alarm sound, not the sound of whales farting and whatever the hell else they put into this thing. this phone fails in life. plain and simple. its flaws outweigh everything else it has to offer. the speaker phone is utter crap too. and the ringer is too quiet. half the time i only notice its ringing because its in my pocket an by pure luck i feel it vibrate.
 
x10 is definitly not shite not shit, is the best phone i have used along the years using analog digital, gsm and 3g, being HONEST i dont know why people complain, this hone is superb

Wife has an iphone 4 and hates the keyboard. I gave my X10 to her for her opinion and she said "that's easier"...so .... I have 1 inch wide fingers and I can type pretty well for not having done it on that small a keyboard....its the auto-correct that's stupid....

outside of the screen lock which I like because it helps prevent butt dialing...it takes 5 taps to get into the dialer, contacts, pick my person, choose phone, and call....
Or I can push 10 numbers if I remember them right...

Haven't tried editing a video or burning a BD disc either... Is this what the primary use for the phone is?

OK, maybe that might be partially valid, but that's picking nits.

  • I'm over 50 and have reasonable hearing, and I use this phone in data centers where I work, where the ambient noise level is 90+dB with no problem. Maybe some cotton swabs.... ;)

most normal sleepers will wake up and swipe it off within 10 seconds... if you're needing more time than 1 minute to move your arm, maybe an old fashioned alarm clock is your speed. Since it is electronic, being powered off (not sleeping) usually means that the OS is not functioning, thus no intelligence can be used, therefore no alarm.

1)Keyboard aside
2)Low ringer(i thing i have a blown speaker)

it is a great phone

Performs better then my captivate(Galaxy S)

Low call volume...ehhhh

Don't get me wrong
As a multi-media device, i believe the galaxy s has all the android phones beat and can rival the new ipod/iphone 4

However,
multi-media and "super features" like swype and Super amoled aside

It was a subpar phone

If i hold the phone to talk on it, i lose signal
random reboots
Surprisingly Laggy even though i heard the processor is supposed to be better than the Droids processors and the snapdragon processors
Camera...subpar(but i already knew that)
and GPS is an issue(not just for driving but for the apps that required them)

I am back with the xperia
and i have both my Xperia listed on craigslist with my captivate
i have the captivate selling for 300 bucks
and i am looking to trade my xperia(possibly)

i've gotten offers for a torch and unlocked HTC hd 2 so i may just get the HD2(even though it is windows mobile...it looks great)

I would like to keep my xperia
but
The htc keyboard i installed is super small and I am using the SE keyboard which is horrible

and my speaker for music, ringtones and such is blown making it sound awful
 
So the search continues then?! If only one manufacturer could finally pull together all the good bits from all the different phones, that would sort us out for once and all. On the keyboard front you need the high res version to make it full width, its a bit confusing cos the site does seem to indidcate the low res for the 1.6 version. I hope you find what you are looking for... let us know what you settle for in the end.
 
yeah i finally got the full htc keyboard
up there
and this has indeed improved the experience

My only issue
now
is
1)Call volume
2)Speaker being blown so therefore ringtones, music, and videos sound kind of bad when it plays

Really...now that i have the HTC keyboard and Adw. launcher
it is so much better

MUCH BETTER then the original Xperia i had with At & t
and now i can load whatever apps instead of the one i had with At & t
that blocked 3rd party apps

Actually, it is your comment that should embarrass you as all the points made by piratesjustarr are valid. One may disagree with the points, but they are all valid arguable points of view.
 
vodafone sent my iPhone4 and got it yesterday ... i will keep the X10 until 2.1 is out and if they don't address the things i need addressing it will go on eBay and yup it's my last SE phone, will not give them another dollar

and NO the SE keyboard is crap it's not just the text prediction as sometimes i see when i press O for example it registers as an O but writes an I ... go figure! same thing happens with N and M ... honestly i think they spend more time in Timescape and Mediascape than making this a phone
 
I can't see what everyone else is seeing with this phone, but I think it is a great phone. It is by far the best phone I have ever had!

Yes there are some downsides, like the keyboard, which can be resolved simply be installing another keyboard, and the low volume, but you get used to that and it doesn't become a problem anymore. SE might be very slow with the updates but so what...the phone is still great on 1.6, I don't see what the big fuss is about. It doesn't have multi-touch and 16m colours, but so what. Multi-touch is hardly a massive loss is it, and having 65k causes bad grade effects sometimes but so what, it won't kill you

no it wont kill me but the good thing about it is that we have a choice ... to use it or not, to buy it or not, to support the company or not

now SE has been delaying things and going over their words so many times to me they really have to pull something out of their hats to make me feel better as i have been feeling cheated and more like a test lab rat, i don't like that feeling so it's best not to buy their products again, that's the beauty of it ... i don't HAVE to have SE phone, i'm on a yearly contract with Vodafone on a unlimited plan for 99/month which gives me any phone i want for free, all i have to do is throw the phone in the bin (after i remove the battery so i keep the environment clean), call voda and tell them to send me another phone an within days (well it took 2 weeks for them to send me the iphone4) i get a new phone ... yey! which i did
 
My problem with this phone, is it was touted to take on the iPhone, that's like saying the new Citroen C1 is gonna take on a Bentley.

I like my phone, and some of the things it does, but lets be honest, sit in a pub with your mates, and tell them how great your processor is, and how fast your phone is, then when someone says "Oh lets see whats on at the cinema" and the iPhones come out and find out with in seconds, while the x10 sits there loading.

Is it shite, well, in fairness no, its a great phone, but, it is very slow, and the more i look at other phones, the more i think that maybe this isn't a great phone, just a great "looking" phone.

My friend has a Galaxy S, incredibly fast, feature rich and nice to look at too.

My 13 yr old daughter has a little Galaxy phone of some sort, her mum got it cheap on contract, running 2.1!!!

The funny thing is she always says how much she wants my phone............i am getting to the point of temptation and swapping!!!!

Sorry to those who love this phone, i certainly don't hate it, i just hate the fact i bought into all the hype and tv adverts, took out an 18 month contract, to get a phone that by the time the software is updated, will probably be out of date again compared to others.

SE have a lot to answer for, if your going to say you can take on the iPhone, atleast make it some what competitive!!!

I bought this phone, as i didn't want to follow trends and get an iPhone.........to be honest.....i'm kicking myself, because this phone will never, ever compete with an iPhone, it simply can't, as SE can't be bothered!!!!
