Be honest - it's shite !

and have i mentioned how god awful slow the phone is, its choppy when changing screens, and lately ive had to mash the same on screen button several times to make it do something. to anyone looking for a new phone, dont buy the piece of shit x10 or any other sony product. as much as i hated my blackberry for constantly crashing and rebooting it still worked better than this phone

well i did a complete format on this thing and started from scratch, its minimally better but still laggy. come one 2.1 dont disappoint us and speed the **** up. lol

Well to be honest everyone has a right to their own opinions but in mine, I think it's a great smart phone, I've never had one before and it's worked perfectly for me, no problems what so ever I'm glad I have this phone :)

Lol i think that is why you think it's great(not saying it's bad)

It's your first one

It's when you have had multiple smartphones is when you start to see the deficiencies in said device

i still think its a great phone tho

I'm confident 2.1 update will fix the little problems and my phone will feel even more superior to the iphone. Man, how I loved beating my brother's 3g when I just got it. He's now got the 4g but other than HD, I still don't think it's better. Besides, 2.1 will bring HD and only thing iphone will have on it is the infamous MT, which I think is highly overrated and could care less if I had it or not (plus, watching people use it makes me laugh! :D)

Maybe that could be the reason, but I did have the Samsung Jet which was ment to be smarter then a smart phone. In any case I wouldn't trade it for an Iphone mainly because i despise anything with the brand apple on it :L
I'm just waiting for the 2.1 (Eclair) then I'm sure people might not complain about it so much :)

Si, if there was a "like" button here same as Facebook, I'd have clicked it. I despise Apple too, ever since I 1st laid eyes on a Mac in school (so glad I only had to use it once). So bland and monotonous, yet so pretentious and assumptious. Man, feel my blood boiling (so to speak) just thinking about it.

I know the feeling there Tommy, Lucky I haven't had the displeasure of using a mac I think I've only had the Ipod nano 5th Gen and sold that as i hadn't had the need for it (plus it was super confusing) all I use is the X10 for music (better sound quality and it's louder :L) try not to think about apple :P think positive :D think android 2.1 :P

ive got an invisible shield, just on the screen. i like it, its pretty tough and i work in a job thats dusty so it saves the screen. i had one on my blackberry that took a beating and ended up finally having 2 scratches on it but they would have both destroyed the screen if it wasnt there

You're not alone, my phone is fast, battery life is okay considering the screen size. Everytime something stops working it's after I use TasKiller.

It's not perfect and it's running an old Android version, I just hope if it's taking that long to get 2.1 it's because SE is working hard to optimize it for the X10 and not only because it's not their priority, because if the next update is good, this phone will be worth gold.

oh and this piece of dog shit doesnt have a flash. what manufacturer gives you an 8 mp camera but no ****en flash. my gf's 30 dollar piece of shit flip phone has a flash and a camera capable of doing nothing. i have nothing but hate for this im sorry im just at wits end with this piece of shit

Did the flash fall off after you bought it? Complaining about bugs is one thing. Complaining about stuff you *knew* about before buying it is another.

Having said that, my g/f has an X10 and I have a Nexus One. I wouldn't swap if it was the end of the world but her X10 certainly doesn't have the same issues some seem to report.

There is a camera app called Vignette. It will allow you to use the led light as a flash (automatically) and works very well. It has many other options as well.

ill try that app.

i actually didnt know aboutthe lack of flash. i assumed the led light on the back acted as one. really what new phone doenst have a flash?

my biggest issue right now is even after a fresh install is how slow it still is. i was hanging out with a buddy last night, he pulls out his old ass i phone and starts showing me pictures. going through the different folders its instant and so responsive. my phone, i hit a folder button. sometimes ill go to the folder, most of the time itll get hung up, and usually i get to hit it a few times. for something with as much power as this thing has it really is half as fast as a 3 year old i phone.

Wow, you seem to have the same kind of luck as Hunted has, my friend.

lol true that... most of my beef is with vodafone at the mo though..

its not that i hate the phone, i just think if it had Had multi-touch 2.1-2.2 from the off a flash instead of a light and
(for me a quick/hot swap sd slot like the old school walkman phones did) a front facing cam for video calls and 512mb ram so 3.0 could of one day been a reality it would of been a true contender , just a bit gutted se obviously let the accountants near the designs.. cheapskates..
imagine.....

I'll be honest -- this phone sucks.

Thank God the AT&T store gave me 30 days to return it -- this will be swapped for an iPhone 4 as soon as those are back in stock at that store.

I can't stand iTunes, but dealing with that misery is much better than using a phone that's given me trouble since I first took it out of the box. I'd almost recommend a Jitterbug over this thing -- at least those work.

You can't please everybody every time and that's why we have choices. If the phone isn't doing what you want it to do then you should replace it with something else.

I can honestly say I haven't had any problems with this phone. The LED is as much of a flash as other phones with LEDs. It seems to be a shortcoming of the phone app that doesn't allow it to function as it should. Also, the issue with opening folders sounds like a microsd issue to me. I do not have any trouble at all opening folders. I just opening a folder with 300 pictures and it literally took less than a second to open and be able to scroll the list. I do have a class 6 microsd so that may be why.

This is only my two penneth worth but if you took the number of handsets sold and looked at the number of posts where people hate the phone I think the overall percentage would be low. People who are having problems are far more likely to come on a site and have a moan/ask for advice/seek a solution than all the users sitting at home happily playing away with their X10.

That does not take away from the fact that sadly some of you seem to have been incredibly unlucky with the handsets you have been sold. I don't buy the user error thing -that is clearly garbage, you guys have done more than most to try and resolve the problems that you are having with your phones but if the collective wisdom of this forum (and no doubt other forums) can't resolve your issues then I would say that you have defective handsets... which is not good on SE part but it doesn't mean that the phone in its entirety is a pile of "sh*te".

It has turned out to be a good piece of kit for many of us, I'm still happy with my choice and I am OK with the fact that I have this phone until June 2012. That said I wont root it in case I need to use my warranty so my faith in SE is not beyond any kind of doubt!

I must admit, from reading this thread, I've noticed a common denominator. Most of the complaints regarding the handset seem to be users living in the US/Canada, whereas those in Europe have smaller problems in comparison, mostly network related.

Just an observation! :D

Having suffered the ownership of a Samsung Galaxy i7500 for 11 months, replaced 3 times by O2, I've now had the x10 for a month.... For me it's like being released from hard labour to a tropical paradise. Not keen on the screen swipe nonsense & protracted steps to make a call but everything else is just sublime in comparison. The step up from 1.5 to 1.6 was incredible & I now have a phone which does what I thought an android phone would do. 2.1 will only be a bonus for me! If you want to know what a shite phone is like - try a Samsung.

First post on the forum, so be kind! lol

I have had my X10 for about 2 months now, and have had to return it 4 times. Luckily i'm on Orange UK so they pick up the old one and give me the new one (reconditioned), at the same time, next day, so it isn't so bad.

I have to say the phone is great, but I also admit it has problems.

The main reasons I've had to return it has been the touch screen acting strangely and typing out multiple letters when I tap a key, and restarting and losing my contacts.

I hate the phonebook in it, and have had issues with all the replacements, so i'm dealing with it, and the mediascape and timescape are far too slow. The call volume is too low, and the speakerphone is a little quiet too.

That said, I love the camera, use Vignette for flash which is ace, and love the look and feel of it. It's nice and fast (now i've got new one, and have left it stock, except for HTC Keyboard), and handles web pages lightning fast which is mainly what I use it for.

I am just waiting for 2.1 now, hopefully to fix the call issues, and i'm really hoping for a better phonebook, and am hoping I don't have to return it again between now and then lol.

Anyway, this is a vote for "I like the phone and think it's great, even with the faults" Lol.

Cheers,

Biff.

Welcome Biffsmash! We are 99% kind so you should be fine and if people aren't, use the report button;)

Glad you have finally got a handset that is working. I am in the 'lovers' group rather than the detractors - but I am a realistic 'lover' and know that they are not without their problems.

Now you've done your first post, I expect to see lots more of you around!

while waiting for the company i signed up with to straighten things out or let me out of my newly signed contract...i told many of my issues that are part theft by the salesperson and misinformation or lying.
the other half is the lemon i got.
it is getting worse by the day.
i already have spoke at length about forced shutdowns the unit does on its own..inability to use apps like google maps due to shutdowns mid directions and now...
it is force closing like mad and rebooting..then before it fully opens up..reboots again.
the guy at the carrier in the tech dept did a complete wash and reinstall and its no better. as he left the shop and i did too, i realized it had crashed before his car left the lot.
now i cannot make phone calls, most calls cut out either right away..or a few minutes in...and when i say cut out..i dont mean service...i mean the phone shuts itself down.

today i did the 20th restore and it did not load my contacts, so i went in again and just ticked off contacts.
well they were back now? odd...but wait!!!!!
a half hr later go to make a call...and the contacts are half there..half missing?
my best friend back home..and someone i work with...was missing and i could not remember his cell...from laziness of having it programmed.

so i tried reinstalling again from a restore on sd card and now it only gives me like...10 numbers and contacts out of the 40 i had?
it even combined some...putting a phone call i received from a delivery guy...into my contacts under someone elses name and number??

it just gets whackier and wackier.
even if i wanted another android i have to wait a mth...they dont want to give me another x10 unless i am keeping it for sure..which i would think most would understand would be a hesitation on my part.

Does anyone have any advice for anything i have not tried yet to get it working? or is it beyond? i have done the sony pc companion repair a bunch of times, i have reset it using phone numberous times. I have reset it using phone to restore to factory.

any ideas outside of a hammer? if at least to get me thru the mth to get a different phone?
