So why is root so great really?

when I had rooted my DROID x it was only for the tether and the screen capture- besides that- why is it so popular!?!?!?!?
Can the dinc2 be rooted?
 
If you want to root your Droid Incredible 2 right away you had better not take the current software update. (32mb 2.3.4 one) Watch out, when I activated mine and setup my google account my phone automatically connected to wifi and started downloading the update like less than ten minutes out of the box.
I might be wrong but I think root is not available at this time for the 2.3.4 update, I saw some thing about people not being able to get S-off because of a certain number build of Hboot is locked.
I am sure the dev community will find a way, it will just take a little while.

Anyway, you can definitely root 2.3.3 dinc2, check out the dinc2 all things root section, it is a sticky.

After you root you can flash,change &run custom ROMs that look cool and have upgraded software versions and higher versions of hTC sense.
Like the are some roms with 2.3.5 and sense 3.5.
And of you get tired of a ROM you can just flash it and switch and try another one, so you are never stuck on a certain software version or ROM, at least that is my general understanding of it.

i couldent have said it better my self
the only thing i would add is the OMG battery life that you can get out os some roms with their kernel like the one i am running now i can constantly get 50+ hours on a single charge NOT using juice defender or tasker or any battery saving apps and i am on a stock battery
 
I root for unlimited customization, better battery life, faster performance. All good things. Also, afaik, you can return it to non root if you need to.
 
I can't wait to root mine and play with the roms. trying to decide between CM7, Syndicate Rom, Virtuous Unity, and GingerBang. haha
 
Im not big on the roms thing :/
Ut I wouldn't mind trying some out
They are going to send me an extended battery with my phone for free :)

Try newtoroot's HD ROM. It's in the All Things Root forum. It has Sense 3.5, governor so you can overclock, etc. It's nice!

haha that's hilarious. i know this is a big and very diverse forum and i don't want to offend anyone, but the guy i talked to to unlock my myverizon account was a homosexual male. maybe i coulda scored a better battery too lol
 
I was hesitant to root my Optimus V. Now I can't imagine a time when I wasn't rooted. Just the ability to use Titanium Plus makes it of value to me.

Where would I get a stock battery and stock back panel if my new extended battery doesn't fit my cover? That I ordered online
