Root Best 2.2 ROM?

Does anyone know how to sync fb contacts with phone contacts in 2.2? fusion doesn't have FB installed..

Download the Facebook app and sync that way. If some of them dont sync then edit the contact and press menu, there is a 'join' option, use that to link em up

Yup, 1.2.1 is awesome :)

Haiz, are you thinking of the HTC Sense method of syncing facebook contacts?

The Cyanogen on xda looks close to being 100%. Its overclocked to about 728 and people say battery life far surpasses what 2.1 offers. Cyanogen was recommended by a dev & planning to take my phone to him in a week or two to add it in and also keep 2.1 as a backup rom on the sd card. Being new to Android its safer to have it installed then show me how to update and manage roms myself.

Post my findings here after its added.

I'm loving my phone on VR12 but I'm really tempted to try Froyd 1.1.2. What confuses me is this stuff about downloading the right speed kernel for your phone.

I understand it depends on how much under/over clocking your phone can take but that's about it. Can anyone explain how I should decide on which kernel to try.

DHAndroid, I'm assuming your avatar is your Hero. This is the GSM Hero forum, so don't flash any of the ROMs we're talking about.

You have a CDMA Hero and you should only install ROMs for CDMA/Sprint phones. GSM firmware will brick your phone.

You can find all the info you need on custom ROMs in the Sprint Hero section.

@ Tydirium: The kernel determines which speeds you can tell the phone to run at. However, your hero may not be able to actually handle some of the more extreme values. The only way to see which your phone can handle is to try them out. Set it to a value too high and all that happens is your phone will freeze; it won't do any permanent damage. Set it too low and the phone will be slow to come out of sleep/will have a purple tinge to the display. But again, no permanent damage.

Everybody can handle 354-690 by the looks of it though.

Go for the middle 352-652 (i think) as that is the 'virgin' version I think.

has anyone seen any froyos without a 3rd party launcher? i dont like anyof them and want to try the stock one.

htc hero orange currently running elelinux 2.2 v1.7

You just need the native 2.2 launcher .apk.

Then you can remove Launcher Pro via titanium backup.

thanks for the reply. ive been using elelinux 2.2 v1.7. with the stock launcher. its great!

Battery is the same if not better
unplugged at 8.20 am and used it the same as usual + wifi on from about 6pm till 1am. this morning at about 1030 the battery was at 30% havent tried gps but i like it. :D

actually i do have one question... in the mail app (not gmail) in 1.6 and 2.1 you could go to settings and tell it to fetch only a number of emails or sync only one 1 day or 3 days 7 etc...

I cant find any settings like this in 2.2 anyone know where it is?

I installed FroydVillain 1.5 a couple days ago.

WOW

amazing rom!

very very fast, looks great, very stable and i havent had any problems with anything yet, camera works perfect...infact i like the new one better than the old!!

GPS works....everything is awesome.

i have some friends who have tried a lot of diffrent roms and they said that so far this is the best one yet!

i didnt even know which one to load so i just chose FroydVillain for no reason.

After reading alot of reviews it seems that i picked the best one out....so im quite pleased!!!

Put froyd villain 1.5 on yesterday. Very pleased, very fast. Only problems i have come across is that angry birds is not working and i get a force close when going into the sound option in the settings menu.

Did you do a wipe and restore with titanium? What were you on before?

Sounds odd but I went from a sense rom to an AOSP Rom, and got this issue after titanium restore. Managed to work.out it was wallpaper settings (yes wallpaper) restored via titanium causing sound to force close.

You have to be careful what you restore in titanium.

If you did a restore, try a factory reset and of no more force close, it confirms that's the cause.

I'm assuming you're talking about going from 2.1 to 2.2. In that case it's a good idea to only restore user apps. Don't try to copy across any system settings; you're just asking for trouble (as you found out).

But yeah, 1.5 is good :)

No, no. I went from MoDaCo R8 (HTC Desire 2.2 Sense) to DeFrosT 2.9 (Android Open Source Project CyanogenMod based Vanilla 2.2)

Yeah 1.5 looks like its working well. ;)

Cheers for the idea for a fix, i did restore all settings instead of just apps.
CBF doing a full wipe since its super freaking fast atm, my sounds settings barely need changing anyway

Actually, if it is exactly the same as my issue, it wont need a full wipe. All you need to do really is open titanium, scroll down to "[wallpaper/settings] Settings 2.2", open it and click un-install. Then if you can get into your sound settings, that was the cause.

Although, it could be a different setting, but that's the one it was for me (oddly)

Yeah, that confuses the crap outta me too... I never had this problem when going from 1.5 to 2.1, it was just format the SD card, load a new image and BAM - this is why I've help off doing it, it seems WAY more involved. :(

Froyd comes with a kernel running at default speeds, you dont have to install a faster one unless you want to overclock. So, just download the froyd 1.5.0 zip and BAM away.

It's just as simple as installing any other ROM. And yet every installation guide for it tells you to pick a custom kernel when you dont need to - no wonder people are intimidated.

A frank and sensible answer, thank you very much. :D I have absolutely NO interest in overclocking or underclocking so a bog standard default is fiiiiiiine by me.

Except a lot of people report better performance and battery life kind of stuff with erasmux's fly kernal. I havent noticed a big difference using it on a 2.1 rom. Havent thoroughly tested it on a 2.2 rom yet tho

I suppose if you couple it with Set CPU, you may see better results.

The battery on 1.5 is way to f**%*ed up. Me and a lot of users at villainrom forum are complaining about this. It seems that it drops with 1% in 2-3 minutes literraly and the battery is warm. It seems that Ninpo has at last found the issue and it will be resolved in the next update :). Hopefully very soonnnnnnnnnnnn! It's a very good rom actually
