Sounds good to me then. You guys I admit follow this more than I do. I have no idea what happened in previous launches. Just going off business sense and the way I was told it worked by verizon rep. If they've done it in the past..maybe were all good. This is going to be my first droid. I just hope I like it and can get used to all the touch screen stuff. Have a black berry now. This is a big switch.

Sorry for attacking you. I think its safe to say we are all on edge here. Its just very frustrating when we spend so much time getting everyone to agree on one date, and someone else comes in starting another rumor.

I can't imagine that they would be putting this many commercials out if they were waiting until March. That's a lot of coin to put at least one commercial on every 30 minutes that I'm seeing. It's one thing for people on this forum to be filling their phone lines, but to have everyone calling in for another two weeks doesn't make sense.

I know people expect that they will announce a date well before the release, but there is no reason to. They have everyone's attention and if you're planning on getting one you probably already know. Does it really take more than a 12 hour notice?

I agree with this. I find it hard to believe they would be going this heavy if the release date were not in February. I would expect them to at least make a 24hr notice but I am alright if they don't (just means less chance of them selling out before I get my hands on one).

I just hope it is the 24th or at least by the 26th, thats when my 14 days are up........ Im running with the droid X and restarts all the damn time! Lets hope we at least get a release date....

Sorry to go off topic but what are the big benefits of a droid? UI, apps, speed? And..heard all this talk about netflix. Is that going to be an app to stream movies? Couldn't you already stream them by logging into your netflix account? Any comments would be appreciated.

I think I am going to get the iPhone 4. My sister gave me her brand new HTC Incredible and I am coming from a Droid X. I am really not that big of a fan of HTC anymore or android. I think it really just destroyed my like for the phone. Maybe its the fact that I am coming from a bigger screen to a smaller one... Any who the Word in my area is the 28th, when i called to get the phone activated the vzw rep said the same as the corp store manager. Feb 28 is the date.

I thought you worked for verizon.

Keep in mind Droid is only a brand, its not an OS, with that said, ThunderBolt isn't a Droid, but an Android phone by HTC with the new Sense 2.0, that will be heavily marketed as the first 4G LTE phone on Verizon, sadly thanks to the delays, it no longer has the title of first LTE phone in the world.

I would suggest checking out the Sense website to see what we'll be getting on the new Tbolt

HTC

ThunderBolt doesn't run Android native OS UI so it won't be like the Original Droid that had Vanila android is what its known as.

Sense adds to what Android already has in place, and more, with the new Sense 2.0 you have the ability to skin the UI for theming and htcsense.com has more features such as live phone tracking, call forwarding, text / contact backup and APP backup.

for instance if you have downloaded apps on the ThunderBolt and end up having to format for a new ROM, when you sign in to htcsense.com it will automatically re-download everything that was tracked by the website.
you can also download more stuff through HTC Hub (like skins, widgets, exclusive apps, wallpapers, sound themes, and more for free!)

This is just a taste of what is to come, HTC Locations is another big feature as shown in that link above, (might not be on the ThunderBolt, but since its already rooted, we'll have it soon enough, its been ported to Droid Incredible on the HD/Z rom's from XDA and it works alot nicer than Google Navigation/Maps.)

Naw, he never said he did. He just got pics of a dummy unit in the corporate store.

Sure made it sound like he did claiming to have played with one and proving that he got his hands on a dummy. I guess I'm the only sucker who bought it.
and i think you forgot to correct me when I called the manager your boss.

Thanks for the info. What I meant was going from blackberry to android platform, not brand. Either way will be a big step for me. I checked out the web site. Didn't know u could download items from HTC for free. Pretty sweet. Do they have a market place to buy stuff? Can u cooment on the netflix questions I had? Thanks for the info, half the stuff I understood what u said, half I didn't. Again, I'm a newbie or will be to the android platform

We finally got rid of the 28th as a speculated date, you just had to bring it back up didnt you? Verizon usually doesnt do a pre order or release android phones on a monday. Bestbuy had a shipment planned for today and the 24th. The one for today obviously was real. I wonder what the 24th shipments are.

Actually, the preorder for the Incredible was on a Monday (April 19th) with instore date on the 29th, a Thursday.

As far as commercials, I watched House tonight and saw 3 Tbolt commercials during it's hour run time. The first was the counting ad, then the 2nd (rooftop) ad, then the counting one again. All had coming soon at the end of them. I agree that it's got to be close. They've now shown it on all the networks (CBS, ABC, NBC, FOX) plus some of the cable networks (ESPN, probably others) so it looks like they're trying to build a buzz for people outside of the tech blog forums.

Thats why I said usually.

Netflix right now is only confirmed to be coming to the LG Revolution, but it may come to the Thunderbolt, its not known yet

until then, theres an app called PlayON that lets you use your PlayON software from your PC to connect to Netflix and stream it to your phone as well as other content on your computer, you would be able to stream the content from anywhere there's internet or data access.

Android has its own marketplace over 60,000+ apps and widgets to choose from, HTC has its own widgets but not apps just yet for download, there's an App called "HTC Likes" that lets you see featured apps that got great reviews or are recommended by HTC, this is also tied into Sense so if you download anything from marketplace you would also be able to see those downloads in HTC Likes so you can give your review score and also re-download it again if you were to change ROM's

Even without the certain apps like "HTC Locations" from the Desire HD rom (demo'ed here on the HD2 >>> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iU7E3wETnro
since the ThunderBolt is rooted (and most likely going to be rooted on the production launch version, we'll be able to port those same removed apps for use since it seems Verizon has removed some Sense apps)

I would also like to point out if your big on theming and customization, the new sense 2.0 is a great way to do that, it lets you skin and theme the UI and download even more skins to your liking (free!)

and even though we have skin support you can't fully skin the clock widget but thats where members like me come in, I've been making themes for the clock widget for almost a year now ever since the Touch Pro 2 was released for Windows 6.5

Here's some of them, I haven't been making any lately because i'm moving my work to ThunderBolt when it comes out, PLUS the news regarding delays and rumors made me sick of the PC lol

Android is similiar to iOS as far as running apps but you have greater control and better functionality (I'm only using this as an example since everyone says iOS is the easiest to use as far as apps go) but either way, i'm not a fan of iOS or iPhone.

An example of running an Android app, when you launch an app, you can use the touch capactive buttons on the bottom of the screen like the Menu, Home, back and search button to bring up different menus' while in that app. Open up Google Maps, hit Menu it will bring up a menu such as settings and navigation etc.

Think of the Menu button being your Start button on Windows and your right click

holding down buttons can also get you more features

holding down the Home button gets you the recently used apps popup

Tapping Home twice gets you the Jump screen

Holding back lets you exit an app

Holding Search lets you use Voice search
Taping Search lets you search your phone or internet for what you type in

there's ALOT to be discovered with Android and the best way to do that is to learn by experience.

There is a lot of good information to be found on Android in general as well as apps, games, media, etc. right here on Phandroid:

Android Discussion - Android Forums

While I'm sure we would all be happy to help you learn about Android (as evidenced by the replies you've already gotten) I think you'll find a lot of Non-Thunderbolt Android information there as well. Hope this helps :)

As far as Netflix... I haven't seen confirmation that the Thunderbolt will have it at launch, and there is some discussion as to whether or not it will later on. I assume it will at some point, but that's just my opinion.

Looks like the 28th it is. Im very pissed. I still will probably wake up thursday and hope it is released. But from what i was told today. The 28th is indeed the new launch day. Son of a bitch!

If you were paying attention to the thread, or if not we had a post a couple of pages back that stated its the 24th and its been confirmed by the email that was sent out to Verizon Sales Reps today.

Miami1683, a Verizon phone tester and insider that has been right about the XOOM launch date has confirmed he got an email from Verizon corporate that the sales people are informed of the date being the 24th for the launch, and while i'm still skeptical, i'm holding out for that being the day, with hopefully tomorrow or Wednesday being the announcement.

I don't think calling me ignorant was necessary. I too am still holding out for the 24th. But while he is getting emails that the 24th is the date. There are stores getting emails saying it will be the 28th. So nothing is for sure. I do hope he is right. But i heard these same stories when the release date was supposed to be the 14th. So i take everything with a grain of salt at this point.

I think the "official" launch date is feb 24th but they will only be in major corporate stores that will sell them. The smaller stores will get them feb 28th. Thats why i think it sounds like. Ehy would some stores get emails saying the 24th and some the 28th.
