Best Buy Details

So who has more egg on their face, Best Buy or Verizon? You can argue that both have failed, Best Buy with over-hyping a phone with no release date in sight, and Verizon for not having their network or device ready for launch. I don't care what you say, but if your phone was expected to hit the market in early Feb, and then pushed back to Mar on a new network, you deserve some of the blame.

THE NETWORK IS FINE!!!!!!! 4g has been out for almost 3 months. If something were wrong with the network it would be huge news. Is the device ready? Maybe. Is all the software ready? probably not. Is Verizon making sure they can get as much working as possible before committing to a release date. Absolutely

If you liked the phone and where ready to purchase it on Feb 14, 2 weeks doesn't make any difference. You sign a 2 or 1 yr contract. A few days is just a drop in the bucket.

To piggy back off of what you just said - EXACTLY lol :)

It's not like the 4G LTE network was planned on being released with the Thunderbolt at launch - it's been very successful for the last three or so months with the data cards. If there is some type of "handoff" issue from 3G to 4G then sure, I can see where there may be some type of delay. However, I have known Verizon to release phones that were less than perfect at launch and they still were released in a decent amount of time.

After following these forums for a few weeks now I can honestly say the main reason why this phone was delayed, truly, was the iPhone 4. I am willing to believe that Apple put something in their contract with Verizon that said if their phone sales weren't where they needed to be they had the right to request all new handset launches delayed for "X" amount of time. I highly doubt that there are all these crazy issues or conspiracy theories people are talking about.

On a side note, you guys are talking about battery life being an issue with the Thunderbolt. Guys - it's an HTC phone - of course there are going to be battery life issues. I had an Evo 4G for a month and it had a HORRIBLE battery with 4G on all the time. I turned it off whenever I wasn't using it or if I just wanted some quick web surfing on 3G. Even then the battery barely got me through a day on 3G - on 4G it was more like MAYBE 4-5 hours at best.

In any event, it looks like all of this is coming to a close. I don't think you'll see this phone Monday - I think you will see an announcement on Monday followed by a sale on either that Thursday or the following Thursday. It is how Verizon almost always sells their handsets. I worked for them at the corporate office for almost five years - this is how they have always done things lol :)

Again, just my two cents - Do I think both Verizon and Best Buy dropped the ball on this? Yes. However, NEITHER of them ever gave a concrete release date - everything was speculation and possibility. In fact, neither still has. I think this debacle is going to put a bad taste in people's mouths about Verizon and Best Buy, but at the end of the day neither group gave concrete release info so technically neither did anything wrong =| (if anyone did anything wrong it was Best Buy for not changing the ads in time or having a retraction ready the day the ad launched, not days later).

In closing, I would say don't trust anyone telling you something is going to launch no matter how well you know them (myself included) - until you see a formal press release just go with the flow and try to be patient (trust me, I know it sucks :()

Thanks all :)

although what you say is true, it still does not mean the event has been handled right between VZW and BB, and i believe that is the root issue here.

I went into the BB in the San Francisco Bay area on Sat 2/26 at 5pm. No word, no updates.

I also talked to the VZW people; they were clueless as well. I challenged them and said this was such poor communication and did not serve customers well. A VZW sales rep replied, "Don't blame us. It's all HTC's fault. We would sell TB's now if it were up to us." I said, "The least you could do is tell us when you expect the TB to be out instead of leaving everyone in the dark." No reply. Sigh.

im not sure how a VZW rep can blame HTC, as HTC can make a VZW ntwk based phone but launch, and blessings gotta come from the provider. Looks like this solely falls on VZW and them using BB as a scape goat.

I've stated this a dozen times before, these ads are printed months in advance, same with ads that run on tv, they are setup in advance of being aired, sometimes weeks or months.

in any case, Verizon and HTC are wasting all that money on cancelling advertising after it starts for just a few days, i'm sure they won't drag this out any longer than they really have to, at this point its becoming a burden to everyone, us included...

may be a few weeks. I doubt the ads are printed months in advance specially when you consider products that you are not sure about launching. I work retail as well, our ads are made 2 weeks in advance but are not printed until 3-4 days before they go out.

What's going to be funny is all these people that read all the rumors about all the delays because of battery life, network issues, and issues with the phone in general, they're going to freak out with every issue they have with the phone. I can imagine people taking their phones back if they don't get adequate battery life, have network issues etc, not necessarily because there are issues, but just because they're paranoid about all the rumors they heard about the phone. I can see a heightened sense of paranoia because of all the rumored reasons for the delays.

Looks like the Thunderbolt takes up some good space in this weeks ad. Here's hoping for a release this week!

Yep and on page two,

Time for me to print the ad out take it up to Best Buy and watch them squirm when I ask them to fill my pre-order since the ad has said "New" and not something like coming soon for two weeks in a row.

Nice! Let us know how that goes, and what they say. I live 25 mins from BB, so It's not worth the drive for me if they don't have it.

I did that last Sunday and the manager of the store gave me a $25 gift card for all the confusion they've caused.

Maybe, the ad for next week will be BOGO for the Thunderbolt!

Does anyone know the class of the 32gb card coming with the Thunderbolt? Knowing Verizon the card is a class 2 and they are charging more for the phone. I would prefer the phone to be cheaper than have a class 2 card. Hopefully the card is at least class 6.
