Best Buy Mobile employee here! Feel free to ask me questions :)

No kidding. Thanks Aookay for answering so many questions. Have seen threads like this before and people usually get tired of it and just give up. Thanks again.

Really?

That's crazy. You guys aren't getting rid of me till my arms fall off or I saw something awkward about your mom and then we only see each other at holidays...

If you can't make the appointment time, as long as you have one for the day, you could just call them and say you are coming in early. Typically they can accomodate (sp) you to fit you in. It really depends on the time you come and how busy we are. For example, on EVO launch day we have a few people come in before their appointments, but we had our EVO appointments and people who just walked in to take care of too, so the wait was a pretty long.

The process itself (with an alternate upgrade) does not take very long, I was referring to us just being busy and getting to you. People that there on their appointment time are priority usually, from what I have been told. (this makes sense, because why make an appointment if you have to wait? Might as well be at the dentist office..lol)

Well, if you have an appointment, we sit down with you, run the activation through our system (make sure to let them know you are doing an alternate upgrade of course), and then activate the phone. We don't have to do anything more than that, but typically we like to spend time after showing you some tips and how to use the new features of your phone. But, since you are on the forums, I am guessing you can handle it all quite well :)

For me, at least, being a phone nerd, I always want to spend some time telling them how awesome their phone is and how they can make the most out of it! :D

...unless it's a windows mobile phone

I kid I kid!

Thanks for the quick and awesome response. Yeah i am a phone nerd too so i dont need any help with tips or anything plus i am coming from a Droid already. I think i will just try the walkin and if they say the wait till just be way TOO long then i will have to go back. Just hoping i can walk in and pick it up. I didnt think it took that long. Like i said all i really need to do is pick up the phone and i can do the rest.

With my current contract I'm eligible for an upgrade in June of 2001, but after a few polite phone calls/emails I received the following response from a Verizon Rep.

"The representative was allowing you a discount at one year pricing because you did not qualify for the two year pricing plan. However, I certainly appreciate your loyalty to Verizon Wireless. Therefore, I have requested your upgrade date to be changed to allow you to purchase a device at promotional prices at any Authorized location. Which means, you will be able to purchase the Droid X when it is available at the Best Buy location. The representatives at the Best Buy location as well as yourself will be able to see the change of your upgrade date within 24 hours of the transmission of this email."

According to this email, I should be able to receive the promotional price when picking up my pre-order at Best Buy. I wanted to ask if you have seen/heard of anything like this, and if you know if there is anything that I can/should do to circumvent any potential issues with my transaction on release day. (or before if we're so lucky!)

If I opt out of the in-store activation and choose to do it myself, how much time am I looking to spend at BB on the 15th since I was number 1 on the pre-order list?

I've read this entire thread and think you are incredibly patient, answering all these questions - some of them the same - over and over with very articulate answers. Any way you can call the San Marcos, Texas store and see if you have a clone working there? LOL!!

I am moving into the smart phone realm for my personal phone for the first time, but have a HTC Hero as a work phone. So, I am vaguely familiar with Droid's (haven't spend a lot of time getting emotionally invested in it, since it's not technically mine) and am looking forward to upgrading my own phone. But I'm not sure if I should go witht the Droid X or the HTC Incredible. I think the Incredible would be less of a learning curve, but I'm intrigued by the X.

I am also eligible for the NE2, so I know I'll get a better price at the Verizon store (the whole $150 credit thing is appealing) but like the idea of being able to exchange it at BB if I get an X and it's not to my liking. Also, how long is the wait on the Incredible for BB right now?

Thanks again for being here to answer questions!

Agreed! He's more helpful than the actual employees on the clock at my local stores! Most of them don't want to be bothered or seem to even know anything. I hope someone from corporate sees his posts here and makes him the best buy 'social media and forum adviser' and pay him for his help!!!

when I did that with my Droid last year, I was in and out of the store in about 6 minutes. and that time included waiting for the person in front of me to finish.

OK guys, not sure if someone has beat me to this yet or not, but the full retail price for the X will be $699 at BB. The 1yr price still doesn't show up yet, but I checked today when I got in and the full price is up

Not sure if that has been covered before but I remember seeing a few people say the gift cards are not returnable. Here is the 'official' best buy post on it which states that they are refundable:

BBY - UPDATED 7/6: Droid X by Motorola Pre-order FAQ - Best Buy Forum

I'm not going to return mine even if they fail my preorders as there's always something to buy at best buy (even though they aren't always the best buy:p), but figured I'd post it in case people were not sure.

I will back this up, we have returned gift cards plenty of times. You simply cash them out

The woman at verizon told me I'd have to pay $20 to close my contract (New every2 comes due in Oct) then the phone would be $299.99 and i would get $100 mail in rebate. Does that sound right? Can I do better with BB?

Hey best buy mobile employee! Whaddya think of the best buy mobile employee that was almost fired over making that video about iPhone customers? The best buyer dude was offered his job back after being suspended, but says that he doesn't know if he even wants to come back after this. I'd probably feel the same way.

Sorry if this has been answered before, but I just called my local Best Buy and they said they don't know if they'll be getting their phone shipments on launch day at all because of issues with Motorola/Verizon?? Is there anything behind this, or is this just my local Best Buy?

Holy Sh1t! That's nuts...let us know when BB's 1 year contract price is up. I may have to wait in line at VZW Thursday morning...

would you know if the droid x media cradle that is being shipped with the droid x will have speakers? and also what kind of case would you think would fit the droid x best? i.e. hard, soft, leather, silicone, maybe brands?

Generally, once we sit down and start the activation, it's just number punching, and then contract signing, then register ringing. The rest of the time I spend during my 20 minute activations is all talking to the customer. Because most people are awesome. Then there are the crazies...

Just let them activate it and make sure it's working and sending/receiving calls, as far as the set up for your gmail account and the such, just tell them you are in a hurry. Shuts me up real quick ;)

I've seen this before, it's kind of weird, but if it works then cool. I would encourage you to go to Upgrade Checker | Best Buy Mobile: everything mobile - every point of view and see what it says. That's what we will see on our end aside from any of the early smartphone promotions and the such :)

That would be your best course of action, hope it helps!
