Best Buy Mobile employee here! Feel free to ask me questions :)

I think not all Verizons will go by that though unfortunately, seeing how poorly the information gets passed around to them all.

this question from another forum, but the guy called BB and was told "... only customers who are on non-data phones are eligible for the bumped up upgrade date"
is this true

No. What we were told along with the document up there both state existing smartphone users can do it.

1st, thanks for starting this thread! Ok, on to my question:

This is a biggie: Does the Droid X have a Gorilla Glass screen?

Thanks in advance!

Forgive me if this has been asked, I guess the responses ive read are all different so here is my scenario.

  • I first had an Omnia (good phone with cooked roms, but not better than the droid)I got with a 2yr contract last May of 2009

  • I got my moto droid on the release weekend which was Nov 2009 which I got at the 1 year contract price instead of the 2yr contract.

  • Myverizon states im available for an annual upgrade in sept of 2010.

Will my annual date be automatically moved up to July 15 and will I be able to to purchase the phone at a 1year contract price or does it have to be 2yr?

I'd appreciate the feedback.

again I apologize if it has been asked.

This is not known yet, even our verizon rep didn't know, as it was important to me as well :) I'll put this in my "things to find out" file.

It's a two year deal only, and if it isn't moved up automatically, it seems as though your account will be flagged for it. Which will show us, in our system, that we can still do it :)

Do you mean a 1 year extension of your contract or 2 year extension and you are 1 year in? :)

the latter, please.

i am eligible for the 1 year upgrade pricing that vzw offers to customers with a higher-end plan. the d-inc shows as $199 for me on their website currently.

can i expect the $199 price from BB if i preorder and agree to a 2 year ext.?

(thanks so much for falling on the grenade...)

Hey Aookay, I know you spoke about the NE2 discount and said that you can't do it through your stores. I have pre-ordered from my local Best Buy, and all of the sales guys were adamant that they would be able to apply my $100 NE2 discount to the phone. I am unsure if one of them was the actual mobile manager, but they said that they will call Verizon to get the discount amount and then just apply it to the purchase of the phone.

If you speak to your Verizon rep again can you verify that some Best Buy's actually apply the NE2 regularly? They said that they do it for anyone eligible for the discount.

Aookay, I see in the accessories slides that the 32gb microSD card will be $99 with the purchase of a Droid X ($149 normally). Will BestBuy be carrying these cards when the X hits, and will that discount be available?

yes. As long as it marked on your account (which the website says it is), then you use the upgrade in store with the new 2 year pricing :)

So, we can't do it as in the process isn't available for us to do, meaning we can't ring it up, pick "NE2" and the register adjust itself accordingly. What I did say though, was that if you talk to the mobile manager (like you did), we can do a price match after the transaction to adjust the prices for your NE2. Unfortunatly the only way for us to do this, is for you to pay our price first, and then right after rering you up for the adjustment. I wish there was an easier way, but it is possible.

Yeah, definitely didn't make that as clear as I should earlier in the thread, sorry about that.

So, you can't do a straight across NE2 from Best Buy, but if it shows up in your account (which we can see), then we can go through and match the price difference after we ring you up.

I hope that clears it up for you :)

This I do not know at the moment, as soon as we receive our launch plan though, I will definitely put this in the "things I have to find out" file as well.

Cheers!

I guess the same question would apply to the larger battery as well...haven't seen anything about a discount yet, but I can hope :)

I think the offer only goes towards people who have upgrades this year. A free upgrade wouldn't be possible through best buy, as it sounds like one of those exceptions that Verizon would have to take care of. There is also a 1 year warranty on your phone, you can always call verizon and have them send you another one if it's a manufacters defect.

The replacement will more than likely be a refurbished Eris. Eris has gone End of Life. I don't want a refurbished phone.

I will have to buy a Droid X or Incredible at full retail down the road.

I will be on vacation the day the X comes out, If I buy it it in San Francisco ( @ BB) and need to return it for one reason or another, do I need to fly back to San Francisco? (I live in AZ)
Thanks!

Get your refurb and sell it to help lower the cost of the X.

That cleared it up perfectly, thanks!! That information will be my weapon if they try to screw me out of the discount hehe.

Nope! This only applies for iPhones :) You may return it to any Best Buy as long as you have your receipt and it's within 30 days.

I'm still confused on upgrades. My wife used my primary line discount last fall as the vzw rep said I could use hers later on. (all on same account) When I login in it says one of our lines in available. It says as of 6/7 i qualify for uprade pricing....just not on the main line. I did pre order. Will I still pay the 199 price? I assume i can use her upgrade or just activate it on her line then move it back to mine?

You can do in and they will do an alternate upgrade for you. Takes her upgrade, applies it to your line. So her line gets extended by two years, you get the phone on your line :)

..I know this because I did this on my brothers line to get the Incredible >.>
