Best Buy Mobile employee here! Feel free to ask me questions :)

My question is this though: I went in, and they didn't check my account or anything (At least it didn't appear he did, although he had me fill out a paper that had my mobile number on it).

Same deal here. I just filled out the forms, picked my appointment time, and walked out with my gift cards and receipts. They didn't check my account info.

Awesome. If I do it all at Best Buy, am I going to have to do the mail in rebate, or will it just be $100 less? Sorry if you have already answered this, but I didn't read through all 3 pages haha.

No rebate at Best Buy. You pay $199 price.

well when i went into do this the second time, the mobile manager checked my account and he showed me a part that had an "o" next to it. he then went on to say that this means they can't honor the upgrade at the store and I must go into the local verizon location to complete the upgrade.

i do remember with the droid, I bought it at best buy on the release day, then I went onto verizon's website and submitted for the $100 rebate. Verizon honored it and I ended up getting the droid for $99 when everything was over with.

I just went and pre-ordered my phone from Best Buy today at about 1pm Central time so I either just beat the cut off date, or they really haven't stopped pre-orders.

My question is this though: I went in, and they didn't check my account or anything (At least it didn't appear he did, although he had me fill out a paper that had my mobile number on it). I know I'm up for an upgrade because I was able to pre-order the Droid Incredible from Verizon Online without any problems regarding the early upgrade. My NE2 date was 11/21 though. Will I encounter any problems when I go in the store? Is there anything I can do with Verizon to make sure the 15th will go as smooth as possible?

Thanks for answering so many questions. It's great to see a retail employee go above and beyond.

First off, congratulations, I know some people are going into their local best buy and not being able to preorders due to the sheer amount of preorders.
To make sure everything goes smooth, I would go back into best buy and have them make sure your account is flagged and its not just an online only thing. Though it does sound like you are good for the upgrade Motorola talked about in their press conference. Oh our end, we have to see the account flagged for its upgrade for us to do it with the two year pricing. Hope that helps :)

I just got in, the official word is no more Droid x preorders as of today. This is a best buy wide policy, as it was in our employee news. This was as of 4 pm. The places currently taking preorders may have had a small amount, but the official word is no more. Glad I could get that cleared up :)

Yes, we can do the alternate upgrade and then swap the hardware on the account/add the data package. It takes two swoops into our system to do, but no

Lol, well it is a lot to read, I know this from personal experience ;) no rebate, instant savings bring it to 199.99. Enjoy not having someone borrow your money for 3-4 weeks :)

i hope BB allowed me to get early upgrade because my NE2 date is on Nov but you told me if my upgrade date is in 2010 then i can get it correct?

do you know what time BB will be open on july 15th for Droid X released.... will it be limited stock of droid and they hold for people who on pre order correct?

Thanks for answering all of our questions! I have one as well:

I've preordered at BBuy too, but my circumstances are a bit different than most. I'm actually ditching AT&T and leaving my iphone in the past. My hope is that my number can be ported from AT&T to Verizon, but I honestly have no idea how this works. Is this something that BBuy will be able to do when I pick up my phone on the 15th? And how long does it take for something like that to take effect?

Thanks so much for your time.

From what I understand, the new every two is when your contract actually ends, so yes, it should be bumped up. As long as your line is eligible for the early upgrade, and its flagged on the account, you are good. We will open at 9, if you preordered one, it will be on hold for you, and depending on the amount the store gets vs the amount of preorders we get, we may only be able to fulfill the preorders and not have any for walk ins. I'm hoping to be surprised and receive way more ;)

people who on pre order list still able to get X but pre order stopped so that mean no more give away for pre orders?

This means that if you made it onto the preorders list, congratulations, but no more people will be able to preorder it. Everyone on the list will receive one, should be on launch day but if the store doesn't receive a full shipment, then might have to wait a few days. What do you mean by give aways? Like what was done with the evo?

I was thinking of making my eris a back-up phone and buying the x outright can this done at BB.

Yes. We don't have many people buying phones outright, but you don't have to get a contract with your phone.

Actually this process is pretty easy...unless you are coming from boost mobile ;) Just tell them you want to port your number over and they will know what to do. It's faster if you tell them before you sit down to activate the phone, but the process is usually instant, you should have only a few minutes of a delay of service. Sometimes it can get held up, worst case scenario is a day, but your old phone will still work, you won't run into a situation where they both do not work. Personally, i have not run into a snag with a phone port...and now that I say this, tomorrow my first activation is going to hit a snag :S

There is a part of me that gets all giddy when I see someone switching from an iPhone to an Android phone. The amount of ports we did from ATT and iPhone to Sprint and the evos was crazy.

Hope that clears everything up :)

Just wondering if the X will be on display before the 15th for people to play around with.

This is usually a no. We may have mocks up, which is just the outer shell you usually see our displays as, but usually the reps will come in launch day to demo it. No guarantees though :S

To be honest, I usually tell customers if they want to try out a phone we dont have a live demo of, to go to the Verizon store down the street...then come back to us to buy it ;) I wish we had more working demos, but its really a security thing.

Is the "Black Tie" protection worth it? Basically asking if Verizon still honors the extra $5-10 we pay them for insurance per month if you're buying the phone from BB or do I need to buy the Black Tie to cover that?

It's different for each person. There are really nice benefits to it (the good maintenance reward, the battery replacement, if we don't carry the phone and it breaks, you get a new one) but there are some down sides ( doesn't cover lost or stolen...but that's what mobile defense is for ;) ).

I've had bad experiences with Verizon insurance long before I ever worked for best buy, especially the deductible part. But not everyone has these, and sometimes it works for them.

I like it, I have it on my phone, but is it the right solution for you? That's for your mobile consultant to tell you :)

Verizon's insurance will cover phones bought through us, for sure.

All in all, they both are good services, its dependant on the person and their needs to see which is the best one for them :)

Awesome, thank you. I'm generally very protective of my phones so I'm not sure the extra money to BB per month is worth it if Verizon will basically cover the same things. One plus side I do see is that as far as replacement goes, if you have it in stock, I'll get it that day where as with Verizon I'll have to wait for it to come in the mail and do that dance. Thanks again for the quick response.

Well, we do send the phone out for repair, and the turn around is 1 to 3 weeks, but at the end if they can't fix your phone, you get a brand new one, not refurbished. That is one of the downsides, but I always have a backup phone, so for me it works. The only exceptions are iPhone and blackberrys. Sorry if I didn't make it completely clear earlier.

It's straight, my misunderstanding then. I'll look into it. What was the final word on the 11th or 15th?

15th until I hear otherwise.

Will Best Buy's have Droid X's available on launch for people who didn't preorder? I would love to get it there to avoid having to do the mail in rebate, but I don't want to go there and then be rejected because all of their phones are preordered.

Unfortunately I can't answer that for every store, its going to depend on how many they send us over our preorders. Our store by the looks of it, will , but we didn't have a lot of preorders before they stopped them. Motorola is very good at getting phones out there, the amount of Droid we received were crazy. I'm not worried about supply for this one.
