Best Buy Mobile employee here! Feel free to ask me questions :)

i don't get the ne2 discount as i'm not the primary line, and i guess i won't be getting the phone through verizon since i preordered it at best buy. this question is the only thing that has me concerned as of right now

If your line isn't the primary line on the account, then you have to be an authorized user on the account. usually the main account holder can call Verizon and put you on there. That's all we need to do your upgrade :)

I think that was your question, correct me if I'm wrong.

Well, I'm not sure what to do! I have a Droid X preordered with Best Buy (during the first batch of preorders). I'm currently an iPhone customer, so this will be a new Verizon signup.

I really only want to do a 1-year contract! And I was hopeful, after reading this thread, that I would be able to do so when I purchase the phone on 6/15. However, I stopped in at my local Best Buy today and they told me I would NOT be able to do a 1-year contract. They said either $200 for 2-year or full price retail with no contract (though he discouraged me from doing that, of course). I even told him that I had read that Best Buy would do a 1-year, but he again confirmed that they would not.

So my question for Aookay is this: is there something in writing that I can take on the 6/15 that shows you CAN do a 1-year contract, or can I give him a SKU number of something to make him look it up?

Interestingly, I also stopped in at the Verizon store right down the street and they also said they would not be doing 1-year contracts for the first three months the phone is available!

I don't mind doing a 2-year contract with the carrier, but I upgrade phones every year. If I sign a 2-year on 6/25 with the Droid X, what would my upgrade price be a year from now? Would I be stuck with full retail if I upgrade? Or do they have an intermediate upgrade price of $400 like AT&T does?

Thanks!

It's literally in our registers when we ring you up...umm I don't have anything in writing, but I've seen it. I don't know why he said we wouldn't, maybe he had never done one before and just didn't know how?

Verizon has annual upgrades for the 2 year price:
"You must be registered for My Verizon, be on a calling plan of $49.99 or higher and have completed at least 1 year of a 2-year contract and agree to renew for an additional 2 years in order to get a new phone at a promotional price. It

From what Aookay has stated previously the 1 year contract is something that some BB's will do but not all. If that BB won't write a 1 year contract then maybe you'd be better served checking with other stores to find one willing to assist you.

And in terms of the VZW store I'd suggest that you try going to a different store for a second opinion. No 1-yr contract for the 1st 3 months? That's news to me...

They should all do it. In fact, on our price cards underneath the phones, it says "1 year pricing is also availiable, please ask your mobile consultant" or something like that.

I would also point that out to them.

I'm an old retired guy. I sit by my home phone most all day so it shouldn't be hard for the BB folks to contact me!

Again, thanks for all your help on this forum.

lol.

You remind me of one of the regulars in my store. Super cool too.

No problem, I'm just happy to help :)

Has anyone confirmed that BB price for 1 yr contract will be 269? If not will they match verizon price which is 369+100 rebate (or 269) ?
--
As a new user to verizon I think i'm eligible...

No confirmation on 1 year pricing yet, but we will not price match anything that has a mail in rebate. It's part of our policy.

I don't think this has already been asked....but will BB make me pay an activation fee? If so considering my NE2 is not going to work and the activation fee (if there is one) I am looking at what like $80 more than buying online?? When I upgrade my phone online through verizon I haven't had to pay an activation fee.

FYI - if it matters I am a current out of contract customer.

If you are out of contract but currently a customer of Verizon, there is no activation fee. No upgrade fee either.

We don't have any control over activation fees, unfortunatly :(

hey quick question aookay, im going to be adding on a line to get the droid x as i currently have a droid and will be giving that to my sister. The question I have for you is, will the say something that my droid is rooted when they take it over and try to activate it for my sis or should i revert back to stock??? also when adding a line, how much extra is the monthly bill if i want unlimited everything for me and my sis??? thanks man!! appreciate it in advace =)

lol, well, people like me might notice and give you a thumbs up (but also warn you it voids the warranty =P), but I don't think they will notice or care. I would revert it to stock though, just to make sure the activation process goes smoothly. Do you use Droid Mod? That will make it much easier :)

How many lines do you currently have? If you are starting a family plan, it will be 149.99 for unlimited talk and text for the two of you, plus 60 dollars for the two data plans, so 210.

If you are adding her onto the existing family plan it would be different. Get back to me.

Similarly to I_Get_Busy, i'm picking up the Droid X as a new line. Do you know if there'd be any other charges (activation fees, etc) that would show up? I'd rather not find out I didn't bring enough money to take care of it all.

At best buy you just pay for the phone, the activation fee for adding a new line will go onto your next months bill.

So it should be around 246 with the taxes. I would bring like, 260 or something just to be safe.

Crude. I've been told there is NO activation fee. I believe that has also been mentioned in at least one other thread. What gives?

Whoops. My bad. I see it involves activating a "new line". Sorry 'bout that.

Aye, new lines will do that, unless they are waiving activation fees, they do this on select weekends.

I bought the Droid Incredible on June 12th and plan to return it within my 30 days for a couple of reasons, but in general, I just want the Droid X.

That said, the Best Buy I bought it at has given me a lot of hassle with returning it (when I call about it). It actually seems like it's always the same girl who answers me and starts giving me BS excuses. While I know you take a loss when someone returns a phone, this BB mobile employee really just annoys me with the things she says.

As I recall, first time I said I wanted to return because I wanted to get the Droid X. She starts asking me WHY?!? It's the same phone basically, the both have the same 1GHz processor, they're both android, etc. I'm just like... uh no.

2nd time, I recall being told that it would be a hassle to cancel the contract with VZW (it's a new line on a family plan) and that VZW wouldn't let me get a new phone/contract for 60 days. Wow... now lying?

3rd time, same girl, I tell her i'm not satisfied with the battery life. She tells me all smartphones have low battery life and tries to give me some more excuses. I say no, my iPhone lasted a lot longer than this... so she just gives in and tells me the return policy. Then she says (as if she expects it to be broken some way) that they're going to have to check to make sure something's not wrong with the phone first before they take it back.

Anyway... that's my story.

So June 12th I bought this phone, I assumed July 12th is the last day I can return it... but the rep told me a couple days earlier (dunno why) like July 7th. I'm thinking, does this person know how to count? Now considering that, what do you think best buy will say to extending the 30 days by 3 days so I can exchange the phone for the Droid X? I mean it's either the take the exchange, or don't, and I return it early, and probably buy it straight off VZW, or they can bend the rule a little bit to keep $$ to them.

Should I take the 2nd route and return my phone early, what happens to the new number I created? Can I just leave the line open without a phone for 3 days while I wait for my Droid X? If so, I assume even with the line open, I can start a new 2 year contract for the Droid X to get the discount right?

Thanks for the help.

I would call Verizon an see how you can handle your contract and phone number. Also with the BS BB is giving you Id make sure and return it with in 30 days

Thanks a bunch! Just a couple of followup questions if you don't mind:

1). The price tag thing you mentioned where it mentions 1 year contract - will that be displayed on the shiw floor where the customer can see it, or is that something internal i'll have to mention to e store employee to look up?

2). I will be able to get a 20% discount on monthly plans for working for the USPS. Will Best Buy be able to apply that, or if not, can I just go back to a Verizon store and have them apply it after my phone purchase at Best Buy?

3). If Verizon allows upgrade pricing after 11 months, then whqt advantage is there to getting the 1 year contract? Is it just in case you want to switch carriers after 12 months? So basically, after 12 months, the upgrade price is the same whether you have a 1 or 2 year contract as long as you have the minimum monthly plan?

Yeah, it's the tags that show the 2 year pricing, along with the family plan and the full retail price. Right on the sales floor. Right out there for you to see :)

We can't apply the discount, but you can go to https://b2b.verizonwireless.com/tbmb/rylEnterEmailAddressFaxBack.do and apply it, they can't do it in stores it seems. You either do it that way, or fax a pay stub to them, that you would call customer service for.

Yeah, seems that way. The only reason people sign 1 year is if they don't want to be tied to a carrier for 2 years, I mean you get that upgrade after 1 year either way, but one you will be out of contract and the other you won't.

And yeah, as long as you fall under those guidelines, you can upgrade every year on verizon.

Hope that helps!

Quick question. I sold my DI on my main line, and planned on picking up the DX by adding a second line and putting it back into the main line so I get two year pricing. Then pay $10 for one month to use as for the secondary line. The idea was to give me some time to save up money and to then break the contract after 30 days, then to pay $350. It would come out to around $560, which is slightly cheaper then retail.

Opinions?

To note, I do not have the money from the sold DI anymore so that's out of the question really.

Aookay, I have a question. I am buying the Droid X at retail price (my contract and NE2 are both in mid next year, and my phone plan is $40 so I dont qualify for the dumbphone->X deal). When I go in to buy it, will they activate it, upgrade my plan, and transfer my number to it same as a Verizon store (rather than me calling Verizon to do it later) so I can walk out with it working (I only have the one phone on my plan)? In addition, will I be tied to Best Buy since I bought it there or can I go to any BB or VZW if I need help?

I've only dealt with VZW stores before so not really sure how buying the phone at Best Buy affects things. Thanks for answering so much within this thread as well, it is great to see someone willing to help.

Yes, they can do that all for you in store if you like. As far as anything later, you can always come in, but unless you get the Black Tie Protection from us, you would have to go to Verizon to get the phone replaced after 30 days if there is any problems.

You can go to any Best Buy :) Really, we do much of the same things the carrier stores do, the only exception being specific account things we don't have access to. Like annual upgrades and billing.

Hope that helps!

Myself, I would probably do the full retail thing, just because it would be less of a hassle, but if you are looking to save money, that is the best solution. Looks like a solid plan :)

One of the local best buy I called said that 1 year plans only applied to folks who have finished a 2 year plan; but verizon said it applied to new customers. I wonder whom is correct ?

Verizon would be correct in this instance.
