Best buy stopped stocking lg optimus

Well sad to say my wifes optimus drownd last week in milk. The camera was kicking on over and over with random reboots. So i finished it off with a curb kick. Being strapped for cash. It was replacement via best buy insurance.
Well they were out at three area stores because they no longer are stocking them the nerest store was in nebraska. Thats a long drive from kck.
Anyway the only phone they would substitute was the htc wildfire s so now its locked bootloader city wich is a new chalenge for me. Just letting every one know that if you go for a replacement bring some cash cause the wildfire is ok being htc but it a must for sd ext.'s. There is like no internal memory for that thing.

I've noticed alot of stores are no longer stocking it. Even Virgin Mobile has been showing out of stock for a while. I think the Optimus Elite will be replacing the Optimus V. Those roll out Tuesday I think

If something ever happens to my V (I would totally freak lol), I think I would gladly pay LG to fix it rather than having VM substitute it with something else.

Edit: There's tons of them on Amazon.

BestBuy has them for online purchase.

Yeah im not sure how online purchase would work for a replacement phone and she was without a phone after i finished it off. She would have lost her mind with out a phone. Correction i would have lost my phone then my mind.
;-)

Oh, most definitely.. point taken! :p

I've read stories on here where people have placed their wet phones in a bag of rice for a few days, and that worked. Not sure though what type of residue milk would leave.

milk is the worse, only thing ive found that will still short out a spill proof keyboard, what I get for eating at the desk ;)

They did a silent release of the optimus elite this week which would explain it. It's basically a slightly suped up version of the v from what I've read. And it's $175

The Optimus Elite is actually $149.99.

The optimus elite actually looks like a pretty decent phone. It has slight upgrades where the V is lacking. Tons more internal storage(1gig allocated for apps), 800 MHz processor, flash, 5mp camera, slightly larger display. I wouldn't upgrade if my V was working fine, but I'd take the elite as a replacement if my V broke.

I suspect the Elite will end up replacing it, but maybe not, they could just be waiting on the next shipment.
In the year that I have seen Virgin Mobile operate it has been pretty easy to figure out there next move's. The V is gone. When supplies run out, that's it. The Elite is taking it's place. VM is not going to,or want to, have a lot of phones to deal with. The Elite and V are in the same category (entry level LG smart phone with virtual keyboard). Why would they want to pay LG to build two phones in the same category that would compete with each other. Looking at the specs the V would loose and they would have to offer it at increasing lower prices. Bad for business. They will keep the money maker, the V is gone.

There is a small chance (slim though it is) that there will be an upgrade to the 2.3.7 once the Elite has been out for a little while. It will be slower than what we rooted members now have and it wont have half the options, but, for those that like to stay stock it will be a welcomed upgrade. That is if it comes out.

I doubt that I'm wrong in this assessment.

They have been pretty predictable, but we have seen the Blackberry disappear and return, as well as the Intercept keep hanging on.

You would think the Wildfire would have put an end to the OV and it hasn't yet. Same with the Elite, it goes right into that same bracket. If the OV isn't dead yet, it's time is certainly limited.

The sales guy said it was deleted but thats just one sales guy.
And im in retail and deleted doesnt mean never to return. if enough people want it they can bring it back.
(((((((Bright side))))))
So start a petition to get it back.

And from what ive seen so far of the wildfire i want the ov back the wildfires is more limited on space so now i have to partition an sd card and ive never done that before. Thats next after i unlock the bootloader.

That's because those phones file a buyer's market. They do not really compete with each other. They fill a need of the consumer. Although, I haven't figured out the HTC Wildfire, unless it fills the need of those that got to have an HTC? There is a definite market strategy going on here. They have one of each type of phone, even a "High End" android phone Lol. I just can't figure out the HTC, it just don't make sense.

BustBuy employees are famous for being dead wrong.

I watch CNBC sometimes in the AM and the guy on sqawkbox did that price match buy were if its lower else where, you get the difference back.

Well a week later it was on sale else where cheaper, and guess what, the employees said no, they would not match the price but he was allowed to return it for a full refund and go buy it at that store for less.

You can guess when he interviewed the BustBuy CEO and brought that up, he was beyond dumb founded.

They wouldn't match the price after the fact, but will give a full refund to buy it else where was not policy.

I just called and they said its been dicontinued and and they pulled the peg off where it was. :-(
But still four in nebraska.

I got a notice from VM awhile back that those of us grandfathered on the $25 plan would have to go to $35 with a new smartphone. I'd look into that carefully before switching phones.

By the time the Elite goes the way of the V they might have more 4G towers. But not as many as people think. It will take 5-7 more years to build up a good 4G network. At least ten years to get it where 3G is now.
I don't see paying more for a phone just because it has 4G, when there isn't enough of a 4G network to matter much. Plus, as Leslie Ann mentioned, the 4G sucks up battery juice like no tomorrow.
Until they get the bugs out of 4G battery life, and improve the network, I'm sticking to a 3G phones. Just as capable only cheaper because of the lack of 4G.
