Root Best CPU control app?

Looking for some recommendations for the best CPU control app, I've seen good reviews for SetCPU, Tegrak and some others but which one works best on a Desire? (just so I don't waste time and or money on a second rate solution)
 
i use set cpu aswell, i tried a free one from the market but the phone felt laggy with it, plus in setcpu you can set max and min levels, so if something isnt quite right you can play with the speeds until it behaves how you want it too, for instance the free app had a screen off profile so i set it to the minimum level thinking it would save battery, but it was so slow when i wanted to unlock it i missed calls because i couldnt slide to answer, with setcpu i simply set max up a bit and it now works flawlessly.

I keep reading that XDA members get SetCPU for free...
I am and have been an XDA member for a while, and I keep going to the link that is posted, but there is no option for a free version...

How do I go about that?
 
at the bottom of the first post you will see whole host of attached files.
you need to be logged in view them.

I would recommend buying it even as a member of xda as tbh its an essential item and the guy deserves his money
