Root best kernel for battery life?

Endmao,

Take a look at /system/etc/install-recovery.sh to find Pete's settings

That's always the first thing I modify about BB, since he has 60mb ram set free, but I would rather have 40mb, and be able to multitask better.

The cpu scaling is all done in there too.

Thank you, really appreciate it.

I'll take a look :D

edit: I just went through it, I don't know exactly what all of the coding/wording/numbers mean but it appears that it does scale from min/max ondemand. Bye bye setcpu (for tomorrow at least)

Thanks again Fab

Anytime I start having serious battery life issues I always double check to make sure that the system select in Settings>Wireless & Network Settings>Mobile networks>System Select is set to "Home" rather than "Automatic"....that usually ends up being the culprit....

my building has pretty bad signal issues, especially in some of the conference rooms and if my setting is ever on "Automatic" it will blow through the battery searching for a 3g signal....

I'm still a little baffled as to how my setting will seem to change to automatic on it's own sometimes...

To get back on topic....I've gone between P3's kernels and jdflg's, with my best luck on Froyo using jdflg's....keeps my Droid fairly cool and good batt life!

Man Im confused here. My battery was at 20% so I decided to change the kernel and rebooted the phone, now its showing 50%....sigh......I dont get it. Could it be the new SetCpu the cause. I dont remember dealing with these things before.. :(

I played golf today with this ROM on my Droid - used a GPS program for yardage and what not. I burned through my entire battery in 4.5 hours. Unacceptable.

On the flip side, I'm charged back up and after 4:15 I'm at 70% with moderate usage (no GPS). I am using the new SetCPU with NO profiles, but I am at 550 mhz, which is BOOOOOOOOOO...however, it's plenty fast on Froyo. I'm not entirely sure OC'ing is even necessary?

^^ 4.5 hours with gps is pretty good.

I have 550 as my minimum. I cannot stand lag on my droid, especially when I need it in a pinch. The battery life suffers somewhat but I'm willing to accept it.

I reloaded petes BB v.4 today and Ima run it without the setcpu and let Petes magic be in control. Ill report later today how many hours I end up getting. Lets hope no new roms come out today so I wont go and flash... :)

I run setcpu all the time. I do have all the profiles set up, but I get great battery life. I'm gradually trying slower and slower top end speeds to see where the balance of performance vs battery life is the best.
edit I'm runing chevy ulv 1.25 and bb 0.4

Performance is great with BB v.4 even at default speeds but my only problem is battery life got worse now. :(

What do you change the numbers too? I've been wanting to drop the free ram to 30-40 too, but I don't know what # to put it at. Does it matter? Pete sent me a link to somewhere that explains it all but I lost the link before I had a chance to read it.

I am using BB .4 with the stock kernel no set CPU. I am on 1 Day, 5 hours right now with 50% remaining!!! Granted, I haven't done alot of multimedia on it in that time frame, but I have browsed, checked email & twitter often, and used the market to find a few new apps and made phone calls. I simply can't believe the battery life I am getting. This has been the same since I installed .4... Prior to this, I would normally get 12 to 24 hours (max) depending on usage...

So the new question is... how do I load a different Kernel?

I'm thinking of trying Chevy's ULV1.2

Can I do a stress test in setCPU?

If I uninstall setCPU, do I have to pay again if I want it again?

You can change the kernel to "update.zip" and apply it in recovery. BACKUP FIRST!

Don't know about "stress test", but I use quadrant as a benchmark. If you re-install SET-CPU within 24 hours, I believe you can DL it without paying again. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong... I sometimes am

Well whats the average usage on a full battery. In other words, how many hours should a fully charge last you to be considered good while using the phone average daily use like text, emails and some internet. Dont count flashing every 30 min :)

i don't think i've gotten a full normal day out of my phone since I've rooted this thing, lol...but with Cyanogen 6alpha3, running the "stock" 800 that it comes with, and using Juice Defender/Ultimate Juice i get pretty good battery life

You get to test it for 24 hours and if its still installed on your phone after that, you get charged. Keep in mind, if u donwload it and play with it for 2 hours and decide to remove it then add it back some time later, you pay for it :D

What if I pay for it, keep it for a few weeks, then uninstall. Do I have to pay again if I want to reinstall?

I am currently running the Chevy 1.2ULV kernel.

I did a setCPU stress test, and it ran for 15 minutes and then rebooted. If it is supposed to do that, then I guess this thing is stable.

What is a normal battery temp? It seems to be hovering around 40c or so.

No. YOu only pay for it once and thats it. If you remove it, you will see it under your purchase apps

Yea it should be stable after 15 min of not crashing.

Cool. I don't think it crashed, it just rebooted after about 15min of the stress test.

Seems like the battery cooled a bit. Running at about 29

I've been dodging these forums for a few days while I let my phone get all settled down.

I actually just did a battery test to compare with another droid running BB 0.3, I'm running 0.4 with Fab's Droid X theme (love it).

Using the new SetCPU and Chevy's LV 1.1 Kernel, with about 1 hour of youtube videos, constant twitter checking, couple phone calls/texts, and GPS I got 2 days and 15 hours out of my battery before I decided to put it on the charger. (It was at 10-20%)

I was pretty amazed actually, this is the same battery I got in November with the phone.

EDIT: Not using Juice Defender or any SetCPU profiles.

Update: 60% battery left. Unplugged at 5:30am and it is now 1:30pm. Mild usage. No phone calls, 45 minutes of GPS use, some texting, some web surfing, some picture taking and uploading to photobucket. On the tool bar, GPS was only on for MAPS use. I routinely use "advanced task manager" (the widget) to clean out open programs. I also often have the screen ON, to check time, my calendar, etc. The "sync" option on the toolbar is always ON.

Odd note, I had my first hangup/crash. At around 12:00, I was using Google Maps and listening to Pandora via bluetooth. So GPS and Bluetooth were turned on, and MAPS and Pandora were running. After about 10 or so minutes, the music stopped and the navigation froze. Stayed that way for half a minute or so, then rebooted.

So, should I go to the LV1.2 GHz kernel, or should I do a ULV1.0/1.1 kernel?

Input?

Unplugged 1 day, 4 hours and 13 minutes. At 40% according to the system. Kangerade 4.0.7 with Jakes 1.2 kernel.
I'll get a screen shot as it gets near the end.

Not much use, a couple phone calls, and email checking.
