Best keyboard app?

I used the QWERTY for awhile before I figured out how to download and install non-market apps, then found Swype. The beta expired and I was out of luck for awhile, so resorted to SlideIT, which was....acceptable. I got Swype back recently and I really like it, but some little things bug me, the way it ALWAYS assumes I'm trying to type "fire" and not "for," for instance. I tried Smart Keyboard recently to see if it got along better with my habits, and I'm pretty impressed. The auto-correct and calibration really helped and I can type a lot faster than I ever had been able to with on-screen keyboards. I switch back and forth between Smart Keyboard and Swype now, but both are great and useful in certain situations.
 
I am really liking the smart keyboard. I have seen no issues and I really like the look, feel, and response of it. Give it a try, download the trial.
 
been using a few for a while now, I like the ability to swap skins on better keyboard but it lags sometimes which I can't stand and it misspelled words all the time with my sloppy text habits, put Smart Keyboard on and was blown away by it's auto correct, usually hits the word right away and it's super accurate for me. I am not a huge fan of swiftkey since it seems to use more battery than the others and I get frustrated when it doesn't know the word and installs another that I have to go back and fix. The one thing I like about swiftkey is the swype gesture to delete. The XDA gingerbread keyboard is too damn small and I constantly misspell words on it so that only lasted an hour, So I'll prob stick with Smart keyboard and switch back and forth to swype when the mood strikes.
 
Swype owns and sucks at once - I got a D1 precisely for a nice keyboard.
When I found swype, I never used my physical keyboard again.
 
I used to love Swype, but the more it gets updated, the more I dislike it...I'm gonna have to try out one of these other keyboards.
 
I checked out this thread because I need ideas. I LOVE swype in theory, and I can type great on it. There are two major problems I have. The first, more minor one is that it won't work after restarting the phone, you have to select a different keyboard and then reselect swype.

The second, major problem with swype is the stupid tip box that pops up every time you try to pick a word that wasn't the top choice. This is the biggest pain in the program. I would love it if I just swyped my text and had to select a word once and a while, but no every time you select a word two or three spaces down that stupid box pops up, and then you have to exit out of it. On longer text messages this could happen three or four times.

I'm going to give slideit another try, and maybe even 8pen.

I really want to like this keyboard but i cant figure out how to input user id's and passwords (things that are not common words) without flicking the buttons. It seems really complicated.
What am i doing wrong?
 
Yes, that does help a lot!! I will test back and forth between this and the Swiftkey beta. Their "next word" prediction is pretty useful, but I like your bigger buttons.
 
I just can't get my mind out of Swype. You should (as suggested in a youtube video) make it faster by changing the autoguess to never. I prefer turning off sound and keyboard as well, because it makes it feel faster. Once you are done typing you can double tap and edit the wrong words.
 
I like Smart Keyboard Pro, it has so many features with a lot of useful updates, along with custom autotext. Custom autotext isnt on any other keyboard app and i love it because it reminds me of my blackberry :)

The tips turn off after awhile. Have no clue why yours stays on.
I've rebooted a hundred times and never once had to choose which keyboard after the initial choice when I first installed Swype.

(You did leave the installer on the phone?)

I didn't do anything with the installer after Skype was up and running, should I have?

I completely gave up on swype because of this issue, and went back to regular typing on the stock Sense keyboard... which I think is faster. When I'm not in a hurry I've also been messing with 8pen, which is an usual concept.
 
I have tried Swype since I was lucky enough to get in on the beta, but I guess I just never put in the practice to get good with it. I know some people can fly on it, but since I don't know all the little tips and tricks I get stumped on it real quick. If I need to type something that has double letters I always forget how to do it, and it just aggravates me so I just go back to my standby of SwiftKey. I can not recommend it enough. I might have different feeling for Swype if I actually forced myself to use it, but I guess I am just a little stubborn that way.

Make a circle on the letter you want doubled.
Easy.
 
Question is, why? Why would you need to type something on your computer and then send it to the phone?

I use Remote Web for this and love it. You can either do the web entry for any text field on the phone, or it will actually sync your text messages and allows you to view & reply to them from your web browser. I use it all the time... if I'm working on the computer and someone texts me I just click over to that tab, reply quickly, and go back to work... without ever needing to pick up my phone.
 
Flex t9 seems to combine swype with a good predictive keyboard and a good voice input and handwriting input in a very nice package
 
I'm on about my 15th keyboard.

Currently using dragon I mean nuance. Like it a lot. It does NOT insert spaces after words.

If you need something light on memory try go. It doesn't have to be ugly if you drop an image in the right directory.

Swiftkey is very cool on prediction, but one of my apps hates it.

The most amazing keyboard I've used is t-swipe. It can do anything. It does English and I think Thai, but also has a wild set of directions keys and symbols and math notation. You know about press and long press? Well this supports super long press with a little tray you can fill with umm, macros? Anyhow it's wild but uses mucho memory.

I'll probably have a new favorite by next week :-)
