Help Best Keyboard for NC?

Just because the stock keyboard is hard to type on a large screen. I've been using Thumb Keybaord (http://goo.gl/Li505) and loving it. I had to go into settings to adjust it for a 7" screen, but after that it is proving to be the best experience. It's $1.88, but worth it in my opinion. Anyone other suggestions for keyboards?
 
I can't seem to get any keyboard other than stock to work on the NC. Tried SwiftKey and KeyPurr and neither ever appear. I must be missing something. How did you get Thumb to work?
 
RichSz, you have to select which keyboard to use under Settings > Lang. and Keyboard. Just installing a new keyboard alone will not always work.

But I will agree with you sometimes this does not work, I do not know why. I have had problems getting swype to work this way.

Once you have selected the KB as noted above you then long press any empty text field, like an email, and a pop-up will ask you which of the allowed KB you want to use. If you do not see the KB you want in that pop-up then make sure you have followed the directions above.
 
Still would like to use Swype for this, but still not supported as of this writing. Stock 2.3 Keyboard for me for now.

I was a hard core swype user for the longest time with my N1 and then one day after a wipe I started using the 2.3 KB instead and have not looked back.

The prediction and layout really suit my style of "half assed attempt " at accuracy.

I love Swiftkey on my Droid and found it works just as well on my Nook. The predictiveness (yeah I made it up) of it is fantastic. The layout I think is even better than the 2.3 keyboard as well.
 
I really like the Thumb Keyboard that the original poster mentioned. It's got a slight learning curve when you hold the tablet vertically but once you get the hang of it, it's great.

If you figure out how, let me know. I've tried SwiftKey and Better Keyboard. Neither works on the Nook Color. After installation, they do not appear in the list of available keyboards, so they cannot be selected. The "chooser" says the keyboard app must be copied to the /system/app directory to be visible. I can't figure out how to do that. ADB does not seem to do it.

I figured it out. One must copy the apk into /system/app, just as the chooser says. However, the directory is r/o. I used RootExplorer to change the privileges to r/w and then ADB could pull the apk from /data/app and push it to /system/app. Better Keyboard now works fine. I am concerned that I will have to do this with each upgrade. But -- all is golden now.

This also worked with SwiftKey. Just put a copy of the apk for the main app in the /system/app directory. I did not put the dictionaries, keys, etc. in the /system/app directory.

Edit: SwiftKey starts after this fix, but it still will not configure correctly. SwiftKey seems to be incompatible with the Nook Color -- at least for a noob like me.
 
After moving SwiftKey, it would not uninstall. I'm sure I can take it out with ADB, so, no big deal. I'd stay away from SwiftKey on the Nook Color until something changes with the app.

I used a file manager with root access and deleted the SwiftKey apk. ADB does not do that sort of thing (noob). It turned out that SK had very poor multi-language support. I'm sure it will get better as the product evolves, but I need something now.

I'm staying with Better Keyboard 7 for now. It works great with English, Swedish, and Norwegian.

I'm thinking I'm done here. :)

thanks for the input. I just bought this and am using it for both my nook and thunderbolt
 
I'm running the Swiftkey kb with no problems, other than there are only 3 suggestions when typing. :D

I think it may have been installed when I restored some apps from my DroidX to my Nook via Titanium Backup.
 
I happened to snag FlexT9 keyboard on Amazon's free app of the day (for my DX originally) and it turns out you can install on multiple devices through the AAS, so I've been using it on my NC the last couple of days and it's just as useful on there. It seems to have all the options. You can use it swype-style, or tap and get predictive text, or even switch over and write/draw.
 
I have had pretty good experiences with Go Keyboard on my Nook. I find it generally more responsive than the stock keyboard, and a more comfortable size. It has a few little glitches, but they keep updating it. Definitely check it out for a simple and free option.
 
I've been using the gingerbread keyboard, thumb keyboard and newly installed swype.

BTW, the new swype beta 3.0 supports the NookColor! Found out about that on XDA and I've installed it succesfully, compared to the previous versions which made my NC FC!

Jst go to Swype Beta and register, then use your NC to open up the email sent to you, download Swype installer, then install Swype. You may not want to uninstall the Swype installer as I understand that future beta releases can be installed the same way.

You are correct. In fact the way to update Swype is to delete Swype (not the installer). Then when you run the installer it will update itself (if necessary) and then install the current version of Swype.

I just tried this, but when I click my link in my email, it tells me that I'm not using an android phone (this is probably due to my running Phiremod).

Anyone have any advice? I'd like to try out Swype on the Nook.
 
What worked for me was to upgrade Swype and the installer on my phone, I then sent the APK for the installer to my Nook and ran it there, which worked fine.
Of course this will only work if you already have Swype installed on an Android phone.
 
I don't know where it went actually, when I downloaded it to the Nook (from my dropbox) the application installer grabbed it and had it's way with it. I didn't check to see where it went, though I suspect that you're right.
