Best Launcher

Well I have had Zeam for a few weeks now and the battery life seems to be going down the toilet. Also, dock icons were disappearing/reappering and it the phone seems to lag a bit.

I am going to try the ADW EX paid version and see how that goes based on some of the past reviews. Does ADW EX come with a clock and weather widget? What else is included?

to be honest i dont remeber if it came with any clock widgets? i got fancy widget(free version) and use it. pretty simple and does what i want it to. just to add to my previous statement about ADW EX helping the battery. i just did a factory reset on the phone and then reinstalled ADW EX and im getting a good 14 hours of normal-above normal use out of my battery now. just a little tip for you if you do go with ADW EX, uninstall the free version of it if you do have it on your phone. i had both free and paid and i was laggy as could be until i uninstalled the free version... TBH i dont think i will even try another launcher other than EX unless it begins to fail badly..lol

After trying 4-5 launchers..pd and free..I'm wondering what any of them have over GO EX? I'm fine with that and not really curious to try anything else at this time

Ditto. Was with Zeam. GO EX for the past few weeks. Not wanting for anything.

Just downloaded the GO update..made the app drawer kinda laggy..I'm sure it will get fixed tho-pretty responsive developer there.

I've found if you let the app draw sit for a couple, three seconds after you open it it'll respond smoothly. There's some under-the-cover sorting going on and scrolling immediately after opening the draw fights with the apps preparations.

I heard someone mention they think it was causing battery drain, but I highly doubt that

That was my experience. Adding that launcher was the only change I made at the time, and the battery went to shyt over the period I used it. 90% to 30% in four "idle" hours. I was shocked.

It went back to 'normal' (about 15% loss of charge while "idle") after I removed it.

My favorite launcher WAS ADW Launcher EX, but I just downloaded the SPB Shell 3D Launcher from the market. Very expensive at $14.95, but I'm into new toys to play with. This launcher/UI definitely has plenty to play with, offering lots of customization possibilities and some neat new widgets. Up to 16 different homescreens, all viewable on a 3D carousel.

Works just fine on my Captivate - no lag, no glitchiness - probably the smoothest scrolling launcher/UI that I've tried. If you want to invest the cost of a lunch in a launcher . . . here you go:

SPB Shell 3D Android Software SPB Software

Recent update to GO has caused a bunch of glitches with this thing. I'm going to stop using it until the next update

that Shell 3D launcher looks sweet but how is it on the battery? id say it drains it pretty quick??? looks like it would take some juice just to run it..lol

It's too early for me to tell what the battery drain is. I've been spending a lot of time setting up the screens the way I want them, downloading some new apps for finances, etc., downloading some more widgets . . . stuff like that. Plus I've just been playing with it a lot more. So initially I expect higher battery drain until it's all set up.

I have purchased a 3300mah Seidio battery for days/events when charging isn't convenient, so I'm not really that concerned about battery life.

It is definitely a new UI experience. I'm very happy with the performance . . . no lagging, very smooth animations and transitions . . . everything is acting just the way I'd expect it to. It's just way more advanced than LauncherPro or ADW, but it should be for the cost. :)

The 3D launcher is SICK....but I'll only be using it intermittingly. It's missing some key features that I need in my launcher (scrollable widgets and gestures). Otherwise it is AMAZING.

LauncherPro is what I use. I paid for it but mostly just to support the author. You get some nice widgets but otherwise the free version is just fine. However I strongly advise supporting the authors of your favorite apps... the cost is usually the equivalent of a couple coffees or sodas, and it encourages them to continue to work on and improve the apps your care about and rely on. Think about it: which would you miss more: 2 coffees, or your favorite Android app?
I share your position.

If we as a community pay for the apps we enjoy we are paying for all the "right reasons". We are supporting the developers we rely on and their good work.

I don't work for free, and I would guess most of you don't either. It's easy to get hooked on free, but abusing it only cheats the Android community.

That's my take on it :)

Exactly...plus, for something we use every single minute of every day on our phones, an app that is less than $3? Not buying it is a crime IMO.

I don't buy it if I don't need it. :) LOL I bought Tasker and a few other things I need. Go Launcher is working flawlessly for me. I unplugged my phone at 10:00a today. It's 12:56a now and I've used only 39% of my battery. I'm good with it.

ok back on topic.
ive been useing ADW launcher now for a week maybe and love it so far, but im looking for more. im thinking of trying launcher pro and then compairing the 2 then maybe buying adw launcher ex....

ADW Launcher FREE doesn't even come close to ADW Launcher EX!!!!
It is a must buy!

guess i should have updated that post..lol since then ive tried launcher pro, no thank you. since then ive bought ADW EX and love it. so many options its unreal. wont use any other launcher now. way to sweet of a launcher.!!!!

Well Chosen! People just don't get it because they judge ADW Launcher based on the (free) version and not The paid (EX) version! Buy it and check it out and if in 14 min. . . no 10 min. . . no if in 2 minutes after checking out the settings you don't like it, get a refund. 2 minutes is all you will need to see how much more customizable ADW Launcher EX is than ANY OTHER Launcher!

great thread. i just started trying out different launchers due to this thread. i am really surprised how customizable go launcher is. really nice and smooth too on my captivate.

Well said PKSA.Tim, there are MAJOR differences between the "free" ADW and the ADW Ex Launcher "paid" versions. It is really like night and day. The Ex launcher has ALOT more options as far as customizing...using gestures..fonts...and docks even. The free one is good, but limited on what you can do...this is just the nature of the beast. I LOVE the ADW Ex launcher.
