Root Best ROM for Performance/Speed?

Hey austrie its not that moto didn't give full source. Most manufactures only release kernel source and we have full kernel source minus the wifi kernel module. Which that causes issues with the wifi but its not to big of a deal. Most phones that have cm7 are on phones that only had kernel source. But if its a phone supported by the cm team then you've got alot of people who are very experienced in getting aosp roms working with the phones hardware.

Now having the framework source for the stock froyo rom would help tramendously in getting the cm7 and cm9 roms working better but we really just need more people working on patching and fixing problems and rewriting code at the kernel and rom level.
The people who have got us here has done a great job in getting stiff working but if we had more people on it we could tune it in even better!

As for miui, we don't even have the miui rom source so fixing stuff on it requires the crude method of breaking down the compiled Java dex files into very ugly smali files which resemble machine code and make fixes like that. Which I'd exponentially harder than fixing stuff when iyou have the source and it's on pretty Java language. Plus from my experience with smali editing, it tends to introduce little quirks into the rom.

But even with my rom I have done smali editing and decompoled many apks and it has had its effect on my rom. Its why you can wipe data through recovery on it without bootlooping.

I would live to have the framework source to our stock rom because it would make Modding all roms on this phone easier but I don't know of any phones that released full framework source for the phone other than maybe the Google phones!

CM don't have to support us, they don't have to do anything they don't want to. And look you just said it yourself, if we had framework source, and wifi source, that it would help a lot(that's why it has so many set back in GB ROMs for our phone).

Yes and yes. You misunderstood my point however. First I never said cm should support us. I just merely pointed out that phonessupported by cm have lots of people working on getting issues resolved. Then I related that to us needing alot more devs working on it in order to get evserytgong flawless. You see what cm does in some cases when they are not given sources to some drivers or other aspects of a phone, they rewrite drivers from scratch that work like they want it to.

And about the source I would love nothing more than for moto to be like hey here is the framework source for the rom base. But the fact is they haven't done this and most phone manufacturers don't because they are only required to release kernel. But the point is that we don't need the source iif we just had a bunch of devs contributing to them than just 5to 10. I'm not saying our devs do a bad job but we just need more of them :). Our devs are great we just need like 30 of them! Then we could have flawless cm7 and cm9 roms! Given that on cm9 we don't have to many hardware issues!

The only problem with your post is you said we need 30 devs.
Possible Corrections:
(1) 3 Experienced Devs
(2) 6 Devs Who Can Atleast Code
(3) 25 Dedicated Devs...sorry I meant, 25 Dedicated Users, Who Don't Know Crap But Have Fast Internet.

Hahaha I fall under 3, but cutout the don't know crap part, I just don't know much as the big devs, but you knew that Austrie. :)

Well this thread is getting off topic. I'm merely saying we need more people working on it.

i think your right about needing more devs. if i knew how to code i would help even without the device anymore. but when i went to thenewboston.com (or whatever its called) it seemed completely irrelevant to what i need to learn. i physically need to eventually meet up with one of the devs on here and learn by them explaining thing from the code we are looking at to me. :p

haha when i was learning theming, b_randon was probably about to pull his hair out from all the pm's i sent him :D

You only have to do it once for each ROM; keep a CWM backup of each one (rename them so you know what they are).
