Help Best Tether App for Non-Rooted Phone?

Which app is the best to use to tether on a phone that is not rooted?

How does it work? It takes the signal from your phone and tranfers it via USB? I'm looking more for wifi tether where I can connect maybe multiple devices. I used to use Barnacle on my Thunderbolt however that required root. I do not know if I want to root this phone, because, correct me if I am wrong, then I will not receive the updates straight to my phone.

I use pdanet, but when on 4g and using iheart radio and surfing the web, I notice slow battery drop. the computer doesn't seem to charge the phone fast enough. Is this normal? this is my first 4g phone and with droid x it would charge still.

I thought you manually have to update the phone once it is rooted...or is that just if you put a different ROM on??

WOW I had heard that PDAnet wasn't going to work for Android 4.0.2 but I just tried it and it works!
