Root Best way to get to 2.2

Hey guys, I rooted my phone back when root was first obtained via the SD card method. I have since kept the phone unaltered and pretty much have only used root for the wifi tether. So no ROMs have been added nor bloatware removed.

Since then I've been slammed with school and haven't been keeping up to date with everything as far as new rooting techniques and I'm still running 2.1 (update 1).

So what would be the best way to get to 2.2 and beyond while maintain my ability to do wifi tethering? I've looked at some of the guides ([HOW TO] Root Your Incredible, Whatever It's Status, and [VIDEO] HowTo UnRoot Incredible by downgrading). The first guide has at least one broken link and I'm not sure the video is the best way to go either.

Any sugestion? Obviously if it is possible to keep my data/contacts/apps that would be ideal, I just would like to know ahead of time if thats possible.

Here is the rest of my info assuming it might help:
Firmware version: 2.1-update 1
Baseband version: 1.00.03.04.06
Kernel Version: 2.6.29-cc1c2268
htc-kernel@and18-2 #1
Build number: 1.22.605.2 CL161494 release-keys
Software Number: 1.22.605.2
Browser Version: 1.28_002
PRL Version: 52078
ERI Version: 5

Thanks, you guys are awesome! :D

If I understand what you are saying. You are already rooted and running 2.1. If you want 2.2 pick any ROM that you like. All except those that say Gingerbread are 2.2. The most stable IMHO is Virtuous. You won't really notice a difference in look and feel if you are used to stock if you go with Virtuous. Flash it and you have 2.2. Does that answer what you were asking?

Thanks for the quick reply! Are there any advantages or disadvantages to just running a froyo ROM as opposed to installing the initial OTA update and re-rooting?

Each ROM offers different advantages/disadvantages, but the biggest plus is that all of the bloatware is usually removed already. If you're wanting a mostly-stock experience, I recommend Virtuous or SkyRaider-Sense.

wow dude you are behind on your Baseband version: 1.00.03.04.06. you can flash a new radio. the newest one is the evo 11.19. i wish i had a link for you im sorry i will look around. the rom you choose will update your kernel, and you should def do a *228, option #2 to update your PRL.

Yeah, you'll want to update your radio via hboot, then load up a 2.2 or 2.3 Rom. There's a new radio thread on XDA in the Incredible Development Forum with working links.
