Help BIG problem with new update

WyckinaZ

Newbie
Hey, new here. Been having my hero for 18 months now and this is the first massive problem.
Downloaded the new OTA update and started installing it on my phone. First of all it stayed on "hero" logo for more than 2 hours. So unplugged my battery. Turned on - same thing for another hour. unplugged again. It turned on and stayed on the same logo, but after some time just turned off and now nothing makes it turn on. Is it bricked??? :/ hope not

Thanks.

I doubt it's truly bricked - that's fortunately pretty rare. Does it respond when plugged in to the charger?

Try removing the battery completely for a couple of hours, then replace it and try restarting the handset. If that doesn't work then a factory reset might clear whatever the issue is; hold HOME while powering on to access the bootloader menu, and select the reset option from there.

Managed to start a hard reset for the phone. It's been staying on "hero" logo for more than 2 hours now. Wondering how long does the hard reset takes to do ?

edit:
When i try to load bootloader it gives me "red triangle" screen. When i got to HBOOT, it says that it cannot find any images (HERODIA2,HERODIA3,HERODIAG,HEROIMG). and if i go to fastboot mode and press "reset device" it restarts and stays on "hero logo " screen for ages without anything happening. Any solutions ?

Thanks

My mistake - it was late and I gave you instructions to get into the recovery. :o

When i got to HBOOT, it says that it cannot find any images (HERODIA2,HERODIA3,HERODIAG,HEROIMG)
That's normal; it's looking for update files that it expects to find in that mode but aren't there 'cos you're not updating.

and if i go to fastboot mode and press "reset device" it restarts and stays on "hero logo " screen for ages without anything happening.
Sounds like another corrupted firmware.... that's two or three with this update. :(

I think you may be looking at a reinstall of the firmware via the RUU from HTC, unless one of the other members has a better suggestion.

" I think you may be looking at a reinstall of the firmware via the RUU from HTC, unless one of the other members has a better suggestion."

how should i do that?? I've installed HTC sync, but it does recognize my phone when i connect it via USB. It does show as a "removable disk" on W7 but it can't access it either. Suggestions?

Really appreciate for all the help. :)

EDIT: downloaded the RUU and successfuly installed on the phone. Working now :)

Thanks again for all help.

Hi there,
I was just going through the forum and reading your post, because I have exactly the same problem after that last OTA update! And took the same steps as you... Apparently not the last one though: how did you manage to install the RUU (an older version), because that doesn't work for me. HTC Sync does not recognise the phone

Hope you can help me!

Hello,

I have the same issue many of you here.
I browsed the web and this forum (this link looked useful) but I still don't get all.
1. I need to get the RUU - unfortunately, I couldn't find a link from HTC websites... Am I supposed to trust anything ?
2. I need to install it on my phone
EDIT: downloaded the RUU and successfuly installed on the phone. Working now :)

Thanks again for all help.
How did you install it ? I read you could boot on it, but how did you put the RUU on the SDCARD ? I can't find my micro reader (and it's almost 00h, I won't find anything now ;) )
