Root Big problem

Ok I was just using my dx and the screen went black and the backlight starts blinking. I tried a battery pull and everything works on it except for the screen is black and the backlight blinks. It's still under warranty but the problem is I have rooted .596 on it. I could sbf but I'd have to do it blind, and whenever I sbf, I always have to do a factory reset or it bootloops. And rsd lite doesn't recognice it because it's not in pc mode, it's just in charge mode.

Should I take it into verizon and just assume they will see the broken screen and replace it? I've never dropped it, no scratches on the screen, etc. It's mint. Thanks guys.

i would first attempt the blind sbf, because you never know it may start to work when you take it there, i would always just attempt it before you take it in

SBF'ing now, finally got it into bootloader and got rsd to recognize it. I was going to put the .596 sbf on it but I decided with .340. When it's done, I'll be off to verizon. I was just talking about it the other day how reliable this phone has been...

Edit: Sbf failed at 99% of course. The error was loading ram downloader or something. I looked it up and it's a problem loading the radio. I'm going to try the .596 sbf now.

Ok just got back from verizon, they ordered a new/refurb phone for me that will be here on tuesday. Apparently they changed their policy in april to not carry replacement phones off hand. I couldn't convice him to give me a new one or even a dx2 instead haha. Oh well, I'm just happy to be getting a replacement.

We had another user with this very same problem. He got it SBF'ed using the Linux cd and all worked out.

Speaking from personal experience, I wouldn't buy the DX2 knowing my DX is locked up tighter than Fort Knox. They gave it a better screen, more ram, and larger sd card. Big deal. The unlocked bootloader is where it's at.

eh, if Moto continues to release OS upgrades that are as good as GingerBlur then the locked bootloader becomes less of an issue...

BUT...the thing is...if its going to be locked down then it needs to be THE best phone on the market...otherwise the devs (and consumers) will stay away...

That's just the thing though isn't it? Why would they give us THE device when they can continue to screw with us so they can keep coming out with "the next best thing".

Don't get me wrong, An unlocked bootloader would be awesome. I just have a hard time seeing it happen when they would lose their marketing edge for new devices. Make it YOUR ultimate device? There goes new device sales.....lol

it didn't stop them from making the X the best hardware on the market...it doesn't seem to be stopping them from releasing the Bionic with some impressive hardware...

There are benefits to getting the latest hardware. All i'm saying is it would slow down the release of new phones because people would hold on to the DX longer.
