Bionic Cancelled?

OK so according to rumor, LTE and targa dual core aren't getting along..what does that mean for my motorola xoom LTE upgrade next month? Is that scraped too?

:) No way on god's green earth will I buy a new phone that is NOT 4G.
I second that! I can only afford a new phone every two years and when my last NE2 is up in June, and since I live in Pittsburgh, I will not buy a new phone that is not LTE...I will not wait another 2 years to finally get a LTE phone.

Ok, so now the Bionic is being rumored to come out May 12. But it may have been scrapped. Or the Targa may become the Bionic. Or not. I hate not knowing what's going on. Mobile phone buying has become such a crapshoot. In this age of information, I truly think they want to keep us in the dark as much as possible.

If we go by Moto's response to the cancellation rumors, we could probably expect either 768 MB of RAM, like the DX2, or 1 GB like the Atrix. Maybe we could get a processor speed bump to 1.2 GHz. This will probably mean that webtop will be installed. Maybe they will put the gyroscope in as well. The barometer featured on the Xoom would be a useless addition, unless someone could come up with a reason to have it.

Be nice if they chose another display tech, since this type has the similar apparent resolution issues as the amoled on the Incredible. The spec is considerably higher than the actual active pixels displayed.

Actually, what's happening is that they're bumping up the processor to 1.2GHz and adding 1GB of RAM. Also trying to fit the Atrix's finger print scanner.

It's still April, I can be a fool, right? lol

Ugh, who's your Daddy?!

Ok, so I was being silly. I was reading an article today that was completely speculating these same things, though. The only diff was they also added that they, at the very least, should be looking into integrating a screen that rivals the Super AMOLED Plus we're going to be seeing on the SGS2. They're going to have to do at least these if it hopes to consider itself a viable option against it, especially as it very well may beat it to the punch.

There's also rumors (and I'm sure most of us here are aware), that the Targa may in fact be a quad core phone. Whether or not the Targa becomes the Bionic or the Bionic could just add quad core are other questions. I don't know how feasible it is to expect a quad core phone at this point (nVIDIA previously stated that they'd have quad core tablets by August, phones by Christmas), or even if it should as the debate about whether dual cores are even necessary at this point.

There's no way the targa would be quad core if its meant for a 2011 release. Were still seeing single core phones being released and there hasnt been much sampling / benchmarking of quad cores, only dual cores.

Its a slim chance, but possible. Motorola has to do something to put itself back on the map besides releasing a ton of half-assed phones barely better (In most cases not better) than the ones HTC and Samsung are putting out.

Motor makes good hardware. They just need to unlock the damn bootloader and.publicly embrace devs. That would redeem them in the eyes of the community.

In the eyes of the "rooting" community. But lets be honest here, at best that consists of a couple thousand people. Do they worry about pleasing the millions or pleasing the thousands?? It's simple math.

To be honest, I think that number is in the 10s if not 100s of thousands. It's still a mere fraction of the millions of units that get sold. However, it's a very progressively growing number.

I think it's safe to use this site as a gauge. I'm not just a Day 1 Droid owner, but one of those that never even heard of rooting beforehand. There were an awful lot of us, too. But looking at this site now, every phone that comes out, as soon as specs are announced, they ask the question of whether or not the bootloader is locked, and if it is, it gets berated. I think that's the biggest reason why the Bionic forum is kinda pathetic in comparison to the TB's and the SGS2's.

Granted, I realize that we are not an accurate perception of the average phone buyer. We tend to be more educated and want more out of our phones. But again, we are a growing number. Does this mean they'll listen to us? No, not at all. But will they hear us? Yeah, I def think so.

Money is money. Verizon wants to keep their customers happy. It's usually cheaper to keep existing ones then to try and pull new ones from other companies. Even verizon knows you can't make everyone happy. The few irate crazies aren't going to bother Verizon...the 2% of it's users that want root is more likely going to grab their attention.

But it'll take people leaving to get them to listen...and so far no one is leaving Verizon.

You forget the collateral effect here :

I can't tell you how many people I've sold on an Android device because they considered me the maven of smartphones in their circle. Its the influence the small fraction have on the larger lay users. I guarantee you I'm not the only one to experience this.

Its dangerous for Verizon to ignore this fact. Its not always about numbers; they don't tell the full story, especially when were talking significant impact of a qualitative detail.

You're, indeed, not the only one. I'm much like you, in my circle I'm considered to be this smartphone brain, but an Android guru. Since I've become proficient with the rooting process, I've been able to give help to many of my friends and colleagues with their phones and convinced no less than 10 to move to Android, and 2 to come to Verizon.

Sure, not very impressive numbers, but when you take in the collateral effect, this can be a very important statistic. Especially when, at least on this site, there are so many more advanced users with a lot more contacts.

If the Targa does take the place of the Bionic will it still be a vanilla android/pure Google device as announced that The Targa when it first leaked?
