Bionic or htc vigor?

mcydeeze

Newbie
So now with speculation and rumors flying around about the HTC Vigor, anyone second guessing getting the bionic?

Honestly, I had my heart set on the bionic but with news of this phone I'm considering ditching it. And to make it even more tempting, the fact that it's may be released just ONE month after the bionic!!!

I personally love Motorola, but they've done this to themselves. They just took waaaaay to long to release the bionic and now risk losing potential buyers. If they'd released it sooner, the threat of "bigger and better" would'nt have been right around the corner. If the vigor is all it's cracked up to be and the release date holds true...i'm all in. Thoughts?

Depends on the difference in specs.

If the Bionic is 1.2Ghz and the Vigor is 1.5Ghz, which has been implied, if not actually said, then dunno, that might be worth waiting 28 days for.

That 1.5Ghz dual core snapdragon would be power hungry by itself and performs similar to 1.2Ghz Exynos in SGS2, marginally faster than 1.0Ghz OMAP4 according to benchmarks. Plus HD display and LTE chip on top of it means battery in it will have very hard time.

Also HTC is not known for good battery performance, call quality. I think they are somewhat overrated and getting pass by many just due to Sense UI and metal cover design. I wouldn't jump on it until they show they really learned lessons from faults in Tbolt.

Yeah, I see your point. They probably won't work out the "kinks" on this phone. They may just be playing a "spec war" kinda thing. They've definitely gotta find a way to improve the battery life on their phones becuase this thing will be more power hungry then Hitler :)

I'm sticking with Moto until they show me that they are putting out crap products...everyone I know with an HTC ANYTHING, including my formal OG Incredible, I didn't overly enjoy the Sense UI I actually think I prefer the bloat laden Blur, and the overall battery life of the Moto products I've had makes the product worth waiting for...I mean what's the point of a phone if it's CONSTANTLY needing a charge...

I'm very happy with my DX, hence why I'm going to wait for the Bionic, eventually someone will find a way to root it and that will make me even happier...

As an FYI - Bionic software is almost finalized to be launch ready. After some final touches, it needs to come to VZW for final testing.

Yes, Yoda, that's true.

I can also confirm, in addition to Yoda's confirmation above, that the Samsung Stratosphere is also in the final stages. They are checking the 4G reception in Tallahassee tomorrow, and then Miami Dade county on Monday, and then it will go to Verizon for final testing. Literally. There is a big warehouse in Dallas, Texas that says Verizon on it and they take it in there and make calls to each other from each of the 4 corners of the building, and also the center, and also the basement, and then they check to see how many internet pages they can visit in 1 hour.

After that final testing, it will be almost ready to be put in boxes to ship to the Verizon stores, starting in the east coast first, all the way to California and Seattle. But that's only the order for shipping. They will all be available for purchase at the same time, so don't worry.

Actually, it's going to Des Moines tomorrow, not Tallahassee. The schedule got shifted. Remember, you need to drive the truck out the first thing in the morning. Don't be late! :)

I don't care for HTC phones. I'm currently on a Droid X2 and it **does** have a few issues. However I am debating Bionic vs Vigor. Alot will come down to screen size/resolution and processor speed. That said, even if the Bionic has a lower screen res and slower proc, I might just get it instead of the Vigor. While most Android phones have problems (including the 3 that I've owned...Eris, OG D1, and X2), I prefer Moto's stripped down UI as opposed to Sense. Also, I feel the hardware in general from Moto "feels" more solid in my hand.

Hmm,Stratosphere....love Sammys vibrant screens! Might have to wait for that puppy as long as it doesn't have a friggin KB.... :)

Yeah HTC = poor battery life for sure. But I am on my second (Incredible, Thunderbolt) and everything else has always been to my satisfaction. Also they don't trail Motorola too much on updates (I still feel Verizon gives priority to Moto updates, as on other carriers HTC gets theirs out very quickly usually). PLUS have committed to supporting developers and enthusiasts with unlockable bootloaders (again on phones for carriers OTHER than Verizon so far, anyone suprised). If I hadn't had to jump on the Thunderbolt as my incredible died, I would probably be all over the Vigor news.

HTC phones have become pretty boring IMHO...And when you couple that together with crappy battery life, shotty phone reception, and that tired sense UI...you get just another HTC phone. Now that is not to say the Bionic won't have some faults, especially if it has that awful pentile screen, which I really hope it doesn't. However, moto destroys HTC in the reception and battery Dept, and those are 2 things that are very very important to alot of people. I think its going to sell very well if you ask me, the Bionic that is. Plus people are still waiting around for an HTC TB update, come on VZW/HTC, are u kidding me?

I'm not a big fan of HTC only because my first smart phone was an Eris. Unfortunately, I was unable to return it because the Eris itself had been a second choice (after a dumb phone), so I was stuck with it. Still, about a month later I couldn't take it anymore and just bought an OG Droid at Walmart for full price.

I think the Eris ruined me for anything with HTC on it.

Diminished returns pushing Arm 8 tech at higher clock rates. The 1.5ghz dual Qualcomm has to beat itself to death just to get at the level of the 1ghz 4430.

The 4430 seems the better bet, especially in regards to battery life. Droid 3 performs sweet with 512mb ram, so a good sign since the Bionic will surely maintain the core design and firmware of the Droid 3, since same chipset. Add the 4G radio module to the firmware and other Bionic related aesthetics and should have one kick a55 device :)

I'm over HTC and their phones(aside from the Sensation, just because i do like that phone) so if i had to choose one or the other, I'd definitely go with the Bionic.

Even if the roadmap proves true, I doubt I'll last till Oct 5th. If the Bionic is out on the 8th and my bills are paid, I'm laying my OG to rest.

Same.

I am not going with HTC, they have proven to have too many issues.

And my Droid has been getting horrible lately.

So..... Obviously the Bionic is going to be a pretty decent phone, but the Vigor is going to be a BEAST, and the Prime will be running ICE CREAM SANDWICH. So.... with VZW's track record for Nexus devices and the pure Google experience does anyone really think that VZW will have the Prime? What do you do?

Prime is out for me because there is a chance Verizon won't get it and I am done playing the wait-and-see game.

Vigor is out because from what I have read and heard the processor, while 1.5 GHz is an A8 not A9 meaning it is the same as 1.2 GHz Omap/Enoxys(SP) processor. - AKA, it will get hotter and use more battery for less of an advantage. This in addition to the fact that I have never seen a HTC product with good battery life and I personally feel their build quality is subpar I will not be purchasing this phone.

Bionic is made by Motorola (always really had moto's and I enjoy them and find them to be nice phones), and is the creator of the great grand-dad of phones (OG Droid). I feel that the wait has been unacceptable, but then again a 1.0 GHz, finely tuned A9 processor with a big battery (which should be the same as previously specced, I think 1900 MAh?), Motorola built LTE chip, SHOULD become a powerhouse of a phone.

Overall I am going to go with the Bionic unless one of those assumptions are drastically wrong, OR HTC actually does a good showing this time around.

There is a slim chance the Vigor is a tablet. The HTC tablet going to AT&T has very similar specs...especially the screen res.

i don't see VZW getting a nexus device...however i wish they would. So my vote goes to the Bionic.

before people start crying about the locked bootloader....who really cares anymore. The devs have done a great job with the moto phones regardless of the bootloader.

This is very true.

Also, the prime reason why one roots is for better performance, a dual core with 1 GB of RAM I doubt will have any issues for QUITE some time.

Very unlikely, because if you check that released spreadsheet from last week, although it doesn't state smartphone or tablet, it does state it is replacing the Thunderbolt. Why would a tablet be replacing the smartphone?
