Help Bionic won't hold 4g

I have a Motorola Droid bionic that will not hold a 4g connection. Its not my area because I travel a lot and everywhere I always had 4g, I now do not. If I pull the Sim card and put it back in and turn the phone back on I will have 4g again for about 5 min (moving around or not). Then it goes back to a 3g signal and will not return until I pull battery and Sim, any suggestions?

I have the same problem with holding 4g. It goes between white 4g and blue 4g every 4 seconds causing s data drop.

It seems as we get farther into summer LTE isn't as strong as it usually it here too. One thing though, my wife has a LTE MiFi card for work and its set up in the living room (same as my bionic) and it never loses a connection when the Bionic does. 905 seems a little better than 902 but it still drops every once in a while.

This isn't as dumb as it is going to sound ... are they both in the living room side-by-side? If not ... try it.

They are about 15 ft apart when I'm sitting down watching tv. My drops aren't that frequent but next time I'll put it side by side with the MiFi router and see.

The worst case I ever saw here was someone who had no connection when the phone was on one end of his desk and no problem when it was at the other end (6-8ft).

I have been having frequent 4G data drops for the past two weeks. Updating my firmware from 902 to 905 did not make things any better. Enough is enough. I just called Verizon and fought my way through their voice mail until I got a real person. She listened to my concerns and explained that all Motorola Droid Bionics were shipped with a SIM card that is now obsolete. She is sending me a new SIM card by Fedex and it will arrive in two days. An alternative would be to go to the nearest Verizon store and pick up a new SIM card. Either way, there is no cost to me except the time to install the new card. She says that she uses a Bionic as her personal phone and that she is confident that this will completely fix my data issues.

pray that it fixes your phone, as it has not fixed many Razr Maxx users phones....albeit most all of us with this same problem have tried (in my case, i've gone through FOUR sim cards).

note; it may 'fix' the problem for you....for a few minutes/hours....but if it behaves as it has for us, the connectivity problem will return soon enough.

lots more on this topic over on the Razr Maxx forum here.

Maybe we have an answer ... please let us know if the new SIM card actually does correct the problem for you.

Thanks.

My wife and I have had the same issue for the past 1.5 weeks or so. I was having a headphone jack issue already so they sent me a refurb and my wife and I both a new sim card. We're still having the same issues. VZW said that there are no known network issues in our area. I work 2o miles from my home and I have the same problems when at work. Very solid up until the last couple weeks so I'm at a loss.

Its not the sim guys. Sims just have an id number, thats it.

Problem solved. Contacted moto, they told me "genius"

Thank you very much i need the feedback to start rolling in on this. We can all work together to solve this.

Enough attention to this and moto will patch it.
If it's a problem with the patch and/or the phone. I saw this issue, and saw others complaining about, about the time the .905 went to soak test and many of us were still on .902.

I tried the airplane mode fix you suggested and will let you know in a day or 2 if it seems to have worked. No harm in trying.

After talking to verizion for 10 times, verizon finally admitted that this is a national problem and it should have been fixed by yesterday.

They always blame your phone first, then the coverage, then after enough people complain it goes into their system to do something about it.

That is why its so important to say something to them when something is wrong.

So far so good...the 4g problem has slowed down somewhat but once in a while I still get stuck on white 4g

History has shown that someone in Verizon will say something about something just about any time. Their success rate on the phone is questionable.

What did this person say the problem was and who did they say is affected? There is nothing in the Verizon forum. There is nothing in the Droid 4 forum.

I tried StealthPanda's airplane mode/power off suggestion and it didn't work.

(It either failed to work at all or failed to work after a few hours -- depending on whether you want to count the bit where the 4G bars were white for the first few minutes after I tried it.)

Then again, it may be that SP's solution is for a different problem -- my signal isn't "strobing" (a word which implies, to me, a much more rapid on/off problem than what I'm experiencing).

In any event, still hoping for a confirmed solution.

For the ones on here experiencing the same problem not holding 4g... I called Verizon Tuesday. when I got tech support they had me pull my battery while he could, I think he said?, re-provision my Sim card he sent some signal to the phone and instructed me to put the battery back in. its now two full days still have a strong 4g signal, so try calling in and getting tech support to do this. Thanks to all for the recommendations.

a trick I tried after exhausting most of the usual fixes, is to go into Battery and Data Manager>Data Delivery>Data Enabled and just uncheck it for a few moments and then recheck it. That's worked to re-establish 4G when I had lost it for long periods of time, a few months back. A Verizon employee told me about that. they said that it would usually work even if a battery pull or SIM card pull failed to fix bad connectivity. I have to agree with them--at least for the issues I had been having at the time.

The Data Enabler widget (in Play Store) allows you to put a widget on the home screen and you can easily toggle this on and off. It has an indicator to tell you when data is enabled.

(Warning ... you might overlook that you have it toggled off sometime and will be thinking you have yet another period of lost data.)

Does that work differently than Restore Connections? That app has failed on the occasions when disabling Data has solved the issue. I presume Data Enabler is doing exactly what I'm doing by going into the settings I earlier described?

Well ... as I mentioned before ... I'm in software ... so I will NEVER say that it does EXACTLY the same as what you were doing. I will say that it SEEMS to do the same thing you are doing.

Disable with the widget, your check box is unchecked, check your checkbox, the widget reports enabled.

There is, of course, always the possibility that it one of them is doing something more that the other one is not doing.

I've used it for months and never had a problem with it. I installed it back when toggling data was the solution to some problem that was later corrected.

(I don't know what Restore Connections is.)

My new SIM card arrived today and I promptly installed it. That solved nothing at all. Also, it has become obvious that Stealthpanda's workaround is only a temporary fix ... until WiFi is turned on, or Airplane Mode, or ...

I called Verizon again, for the second time this week. They insist that they have not received any widespread reports of 4G data drops in Bionics. Maybe I'll go in to the local VZ store next week and demand a new phone!
