So basically I am at the point of giving up with Gparted.
All I want to do is format my new 16GB memory card with a 1GB ext partition and transfer all of my data from my old card to my new card.
I have downloaded the Gparted iso image and burnt it onto a bootable CD on I don

Hi Dorsetsav,
Have you changed the boot order in the pc's bios to boot from disc? also how did you burn the image?

4 pc's?
might be the iso you downloaded thats corrupt so when youve burned it on to different media its still the same corrupted sio so using it on different machines it remains the same

i use the unetbootin usb method

I've watched a couple of youtube videos, which is what I meant by it doesn't seem to load as I expect it too.

I download the file, using nero I burn it as an ISO image onto a bootable cd, then change the BIOS on the pc's to boot from CD, it seems to do something but not what the videos do!!

I am totally unfamiliar with Linux having been bought up on Windows I'm afraid, that said in the past i have done some c+ programming so I didn't think I was a complete idiot!

Rastaman, Is Unebootin effectively a Linux environment emulator?

Oh and I have downloaded several copies of the ISO file all seem to do pretty much the same thing.

unetbootin converts a usb key/stick into a bootable copy of gparted that you can boot from
it saves having to reburn if its wrong
http://gparted.sourceforge.net/liveusb.php
check windows method C

you dont need to be familiar with linux for gparted, its just a program like any other

Droidzone has mentioned other windows based partition systems, im not sure what they are and i never trust windows partition apps but maybe itll be quicker for you

I just prefer it to CWM as a recovery. You can partition the SD card in it too - I have mine to 1GB and have had no issues

If you don't understand anything like gparted, read the page from top to bottom, slowly, take 3-4 seconds to read every word, then repeat. I know Gparted works I downloaded it and used it only yesterday.

And he can watch the vid 2-3 times, set it up to play next to a computer (he has 4 of them!!), next to the one he's using to use gparted and follow the instruction like I did! ;)

thanks for the comments guys, much appreciated. Having read and re read the instructions and watched the videos I still can't get it to work.

I officially give in!! For whatever reason i dont seem to be able to make a bootable CD. I have now totalled 15 CD's!!!

My head hurts from banging it against the wall!

I burnt my .iso file onto a cd as a bootable drive, power down laptop and started up into cd. It runs some dos type stuff then just seems to sit there, it doesn't load up the program as expected and shown in the video.
No idea what i have done but whatever i try it doesn't seem to work.

i dont think ur daft but when using img burn u dont extract the.zip jus burn the zip to disc start pc up enter setup boot options deselect c drive and the other one just leaving cd rom put disc in restart then u shood b good u uk? If ure stuk ill post u a copy

right, i have it running at last and recognising my new sd card, but think i will call it a night before progressing further.

This may be a job for a night when i am less frustrated by the pc!!

Thanks for your help so far everyone

so having now got gparted to work i can obviously format my new SD card with a 1GB partition, my question for the day is how do i copy the old partitioned data off of my existing SD card??
Could i simply make a Nandroid backup of my current setup on the phone, copy this off of my existing card to the pc then copy the nandroid backup up onto the new card with the bigger partition and restore the nandroid through recovery?

Help as always gratefully recieved.
