Black award shows

Just by way of reminder rudeness is not allowed here. It is an infractable offense.

If by rudeness you mean my use of the word "bullshit", according to the rules where an example was givin', just the fact of saying a word like that is not rude or not allowed unless it was directly aimed at someone here. Maybe that can be looked over or have that rule changed as to not cause anymore confusion.

Not really. The motives for a White History Month would be different.

Even so, while I understand the reasoning behind these minority award shows and stuff, I do think they're divisive in the long run. They should deal with the issues in other ways.

A white, heterosexual male did not choose to be that way anymore than a black, homosexual female did. Choice wasn't involved in either, so why should they not be able to express pride in who they are?

Each of those groups would be invoking a sense of pride for very different reasons not simply for pride's sake. It's done to combat underachievement, shame or an inferiority complex, for example. Whites don't suffer from any of those problems and so the only conceivable reasons for expressing pride would be to encourage white supremacist beliefs unless it's purely as a hostile reaction to minority groups' pride events.

Anyway, I'm only arguing the point that it's not a case of double standards. I don't agree with these award shows and history month thingamejigs because they should be dealing with issues such as underachievement without creating institutions that are divisive by their nature.

No one is saying that they shouldn't. however it would be willfully ignorant to ignore the history of this country as it relates to ethnicity and immigration. Blacks in this country have been thrown together into a single group, regardless of where their ancestors might have originated. As such in many ways it could be argued that US black people are often treated as a single ethnic group, not entirely unlike how immigrants from specific countries or regions of the world are. If you look at it that way a celebration of black accomplishment is no different than a similar celebration of southern heritage or irish culture, or Jewish achievements. Being "white" in this country is not a homogeneous group. people are decndents of many different cultures. A white person celebrating their ethnic heritage is perfectly acceptable and is done all over this country. however when you take all white americans and pool them into a single group and pretend that there is such a ting as a distinct "white" culture (outside of American culture), then you are making the choice to ignore ethnic differences and exclude all others based on nothing more than the color of their skin (as opposed to shared cultural heritage). That is why it is considered racist.

If some group created an awards show for whites only, chances are good it would not come from an honorable place. The modern equivalent of a "Whites Only" bus or restaurants that would not allow blacks way back when.

The Clio Awards, The Emmy Awards, The Academy Awards, The Tony Awards, The Grammy Awards, and many others are open to everyone, not just whites. I see no problem with the BET Awards even though whites might not be eligible to win. I think they are closed to whites, however. and that is fine by me.

The problem with an all white awards show is those that decided it would be a good idea would suffer bad press and there would be lots of problems getting people to attend. Sponsors would be hard to find as well.

It seems every group has some kind of program that unless you are part of the group, you are not eligible to participate.

When there already is an award show that recognizes everyone, why go off and start a show for one race? What's funny is that if a white show were to come about, people would automatically assume it's for the wrong reasons. A white award show would be closed down, be seen as wrong and no one would attend. I agree that there should not be a white award show, but there also should not be a black show.

It's almost become a statement for blacks. You know, that they aren't good enough to compete against whites.... (I'm joking, sad I have to spell that out huh?) Either way it does nothing for being treated as equals when you are trying exclude other races. At best it's a step backwards which tells me no one really wants to integrate. Which would mean it's just a scheme, in this case millions of dollars worth.

Here's the thing. We CAN create a white awards show? Why don't "we"? Well, the ratings would probably be abysmal. Quite frankly they can make whatever kind of awards show they want. Nothing (other than $) is stopping anyone from making a white, or Asian, etc. award show at all.

Us white boys are in a tough position. If we create a "White" awards show, we would be viewed as racist. You mentioned an Asian awards show. That would be acceptable. Any awards show that favors a minority is acceptable; whites are off limits.

We have awards shows for whites. They are also for OTW people. Open to anyone, the Academy Awards, Tony Awards, Clios, Grammy Awards . . . all open to whites. And greens. And yellows. And browns. and blacks.

The only thing any awards show should favor is talent. And that comes in all colors.

Hence, ratings would be terrible. It CAN be done, but viewers opinions keep it from being profitable.

I think the point is that, if I wanted to go out and make a "White People's Awards" tomorrow, I could do that, but I probably shouldn't expect it too be much of a success.

Pretty soon, when whites are the minority, the shoe will be on the other foot.

Im gonna start a movement to demand reparations when that happens........ weve been held back and discriminated against for too many years in the name of the black man...... I deserve compensation

What you really need to do is try to walk into one of these black shows as a white man and watch them tell you that you're not allowed inside since you're white.

Speculation, but from looking at the crowd view while it was on TV, it was solid black.

People tend to gravitate towards people most like them. Be that culture, religion, or the color of their skin. I am not surprised that the overwhelming majority of viewers and members of the audience for a black awards show happen to be black. I highly doubt there are any restrictions imposed towards a white man being in the audience.

Also, aren't the audiences during these show generally composed mostly of the people that are in some way nominated or may be getting an award?

That's a pretty funny site lol. Look how serious the guy in the vid is about having WET be a real thing. Rofl, the acronym's even pretty bad.

I was curious, I've seen black movie award shows, but there is no award show specifically made or named as a "white" award show, why is that? There is an award show that includes black, white, latino and all others in the normal show, why does there need to be an award show for one specific race on TV? I have a feeling that if there was an award show specifically for white people that people would have a real problem with that, but a private black award show seems to be okay for some reason. Can anyone explain this?
Why can't men compete in the WNBA or in a beauty contest. Why does it have to be Miss America? Why can't someone 21 years old get a senior citizen discount? I could go on and on
