We all respect you for the information you put out, and would never want you to jeopardize your job, it's just tough with the way VZW is handling this.
Nothing personal, Jay, but I think Best Buy looks worse here than Verizon. Best Buy reps blame Verizon and HTC, but have to be hard pressed to take responsiblity for their part in this. I'm not defending Verizon when they are wrong. For example, they claim that they never gave a launch date of 2/14 to Best Buy but I don't really believe that. A Verizon rep to Best Buy told me this, not just her personally, but she said Verizon corporate made this claim on a conference call as well. Again, I don't believe that. But Best Buy can't even be bothered to change their on-line advertizing and many of their reps are just spewing nonsense.

If you read between the lines of BMX's post, it seems VZW really does NOT have a CLUE when the TB will release. April seems far more likely than this week or next.

What stinks is the 14 day return policy. Harder to observe issues or get a real peg on the battery life in a shorter window. With all the up front silly issues, seems this could be a device to avoid until out in the wild a bit. Just sayin'.

How does April seem more likely?

They are releasing apps to the market

They are running commercials

The phone is at final release softwarewise

How is april likely?

I never said Best Buy isn't culpable in this, but they were just passing on the word they had received from VZW

I personally think that BB took a gamble on the release date and lost.

Big deal, it happens, get over it. They made a mistake. Their only big mistake was saying it was coming out on a certain date instead of saying it was possible and not concrete.

Based on the trend of issues and lack of detail or typical leaks that are "normal" to devices, just before release. Note I said April is more likely than before next week, not all of March. If VZW release in late March, they still hit Q1.

added:

BB did not gamble as much as "victims" (yeah, right) of lead-times. At least two weeks lead on ads to be proofed and printed. Since VZW is likely paying 100% of the add space cost, BB does not mind to as much as if they actually paid for the space in the ad.

Just want to toss it out there that I've been saying March 31 all along. Plenty of time to get it out, and still in time to pat themselves on the back for meeting their "Q1" timetable. That is the way they do business. I don't expect this to be any different.

Agreed, but pending issues they appear to have had, it seems they were eager to try and get the device out already. VZW can not win. If they are honest and publish (assuming the issues were real) that they had battery or 4G issues, the issues would be far more public than the current traffic they are getting.

Their leadership stated Q1, so they keep to their word if on 3/31. Seems best case is pre-orders next week and actual product sometime after that. I still propose that it may be best to wait a bit and get feedback from others on the battery, but like THAT will happen

XDA roms and kernels will help any battery problems , XDA increased the battery life on my Incredible and will on this phone. :)

We all knew we were taking risks too with regards to preordering at BB as well. Everyone is at fault but to me it still shoulders on VZW if you consider the commericaling of the product with no date.

so, you guys remember how someone put up a fake HTC facebook page, and a fake Verizon facebookpage--both addressing people on the Thunderbolt, too.

has anyone doubted that this is actually BlackManX yet?

just curious.

i know everyone might not be who they claim to be,
but JoeJoeyJamison is more likely to be real than someone with notoreity suddenly posting on this thread.

i'd like to believe it's him--but anyone given weight to the fact this could just be someone wanting to "play" him on these forums?

(btw: 85 thanks in 4 posts? record much?)

That happens with damn near every product marketed by many, many companies.

The Xoom was marketed before it was released. Sony PS3, XBOX, AMD and INTEL, Movies,..............etc..

The list could go on. HTC said they had a new product that will be ready by Q1. VZW said bring it on and marketed it verbally as being released by Q1. Best Buy made a deal to be the sole initial retailer to carry it and then they schemed to figure out how they could maximize their profits and took pre-orders.

Actually, they were quite smart in this whole thing from a profit perspective. They have all of these deposits for a phone that they themselves haven't even paid for yet, so it is in essence free money that they can make interest on until they do have to pay for them. So the longer this plays out, the more money they make.

First of all THANKS for all of the information, it's very much appreciated! Now, where I do think BB holds the bulk of the responsibility here is by accepting the pre orders. They should not not have taken one cent without knowing the units were actually shipping. We can place blame on Verizon all day but BB are in fact the ones with my money in their pocket without giving out one piece of information. They accept cash but their staff have no clue how to answer any questions regarding the status of the device. Maybe I'm old school but unless you know the units are on the truck and rolling to the store don't take anyones cash and then say we have no idea what is going on it's not our fault. I know BB has now had my money for almost a month and I get zero information from BB staff. You would at least think corporate would call folks who pre ordered to apologize and answer any questions they can. I don't blame Verizon, I want the phone to be right, I blame the people who are taking money and not delivering.
once again though THANKS to you, you have been wonderful with your updates, too bad we can get them in the stores!

Just think about all the interest BB is making on that money. :D

One thing to keep in mind is that neither Verizon OR Best Buy ever released an "Official" date. EVERYTHING has been speculation so far. Somebody says this, somebody says that. For me the official release date is when I have mine in my hand, which will be right after Best Buy opens that day.

Personally, I'd MUCH RATHER they get the bugs out before I start using it. If it takes a little longer, so be it! I've used buggy devices before (Samsung) and DON'T want that experience again. THAT experience caused me to swear off Samsung devices indefinitely! I'm SURE HTC doesn't want that to happen to them from other users!

Sit back, prop up your feet, chill..... the storm is coming, bringing Thunderbolts with it!

Exactly. Now can we all just relax a little? :)

I think, by the latest the 10th we'll see the phone, tbh

Understood and I agree with you completely but with that in mind Best Buy should offer refunds on the pre orders accepted to this point but keep people in the same queue and order they are currently in. Best Buy should have not accepted one penny without knowing this product was signed off on and trucks being loaded for delivery. You are correct, Verizon never released a "firm date" so why was BB lining their pockets until it was a 100% done deal. It just seems to me no one is holding BB accountable on this. I am using my INC which I love so I have no problem waiting but I would like to see BB do the right thing.

They're not going to issue refunds because they never said when the phone will be available, all they said was coming soon.

Now if the phone never launches, then you'd get yourself a refund

Just think about all the interest BB is making on that money. :D

In better days, yes. Banks are not paying much. It is more like how much are they making trading using that money on the FX market or how much are they saving by lowering their WACC. Either way, good for Best Buy...bad for their customers.

Jay,
Understood, I just think it's a shady way to do business. Once again you have been wonderful and I thank you!

It's not shady, they were going off what Verizon told them, and were at least smart enough to not officially announce when the phone would be available
