Blockbuster Automatic Updates Killing Battery

I'm curious... if you've never even opened the app, can this still happen?

I haven't opened the BB app - never plan on doing so - and I don't have any issues with it draining my battery.

Are the people that experience this issue just opening up all the stock apps to see what they're all about?

If you don't open the app it keeps the automatic send/receive data door locked. Once you open the app it has to download the movie choices for your phone. Younger open the appit won't do this. Also, it will allow itself to update on its own until you change the settings after you initially open the app.

If you never opened the app, it is still running. Under settings, you can see which apps are running, and Blockbuster was running on my phone, and I never launched it. When you first open the app, it will update from the market, let it...then disable the update stuff from the prefs inside of the Blockbuster app.

worst app ever....read the comments in the android market for the blockbuster app.

I've never seen it running on my phone when I look at Running Apps, or Running Services. Maybe I got lucky

Are PVMtpServiceStart and PVWmdrmService running on your phone? They're the ones related to DRM and blockbuster. They run constantly and have been reported to use an inordinate amount of battery power. Changing the settings in the BB app doesn't seem to stop these two services.

After Updating the app to change its setting, Go to the Android Market and search Blockbuster app and uncheck Automatic Update as well. It seems to "automatically" check the box for you when you update it.

Yes, both are running, and have been running since day one. I thought they were system services. Probably just being used for DRM?

What happens if you force close those services?

They just seem to magically reappear. They'll definitely be back after after a reboot. Root is the only solution to removing them though that appears to be less than sucessful as well.
