Blockbuster on Evo

Has anyone tried the Blockbuster app on the Evo yet?

I opened it, but it has some activation crap that it keeps asking for and I keep declining.

I think it was a big mistake to open it though because now I get constant notifications that it's "updating," when I don't want it to and can't figure out how to get it to stop the notifications.

I went into settings and there wasn't anything that allowed me to stop the updates.

Open the Blockbuster app, hit your menu button, and go to settings. Then select "Cancel Movie Update Service". That should stop it from always updating...then NEVER open it again lol.

*dammit Bikegeek beat me...

I froze it with Titanium. On a related note, who uses Blockbuster anymore? Where is Netflix?

I thought they had gone bankrupt until it showed up on my phone... I'm rather upset at the bloatware, I'm getting out of memory errors from apps I actually want and use now. Frustrating!

sorry but I feel blockbuster trumps netflix. blockbuster.com ships you movies, you can drop them in the mail or return them in the store in exchange for another movie (in case you were in the mood for something else). they also give you a coupon for one free in store movie rental a month.

these extended features sure make watching a HBO series nice and quick :)

I've used both services and prefer blockbuster. they cost the same too. blocker buster is one rate per movie quantity, netflix makes you add on bluray at an additional cost.

right now I think having the blockbuster app is a nice addition. mostly a gimmick to me but may come in handy on a trip. when I can stream movies in full HD with true HD audio I will be interested. who watches SD anymore anyway? :p

its funny all the complaints about this app now. yet before everyone was complaining we were the only big screen phone without a movie app.

tho I do agree that it should be our choice if we would like to remove it.

RIP Blockbuster! The fork is in....

LOL I am just happy we got an app, thanks to root I can watch hulu. But Netflix would probably be a better option for movies, but TV shows I love Hulu

I have Netlfix streaming at home and am not real happy. Most of the movies are older, and if you want to watch a newer movie you have to order through the mail and pay extra per month. I don't want to have to go all the way down to my mailbox for a movie. I wish I could just pay extra and stream it like the rest of the movies. Quality is good and 99% of the movies play without interruption. I just wish they had better movies. The kids are the only reason I have not canceled yet. Unfortunately, Blockbuster On Demand is not supported by any device I own at home. I am curious how well it works and what movies you can stream.

The bolded is hilarious...

tried it this weekend.... terrible sound. i down load movies for my daughter to watch on road trips and i play the sound through the radio...
1. it took forever to download 1 movie over wifi...hour plus
2. sound volume on said movie so low as to be unuseable.
3. no easy way to contact them if you have an issue.
4. wont be using it again.

Thank you for your input. Everyone talked about how they feel but, your the only one who actually tried the app. Now I know what to expect.

I agree. Most comments in here were uneccessary besides his post.

Nope..In fact, I want that bloatware off my EVO! Time to root.

I wanted to complain to Sprint about it. I used Sprint's live chat- they couldn't understand the problem and kept trying to walk me through uninstalling like it was an app I'd downloaded. They advised me to call Tech Support, who were even more clueless. I was advised to "drag the app to the trash. What, that didn't get rid of it?" And finally the lady I spoke to basically said if I didn't want Blockbuster, Swype and Nova that it's HTC's fault, not Sprint.

Didn't blockbuster file bankruptcy?.... why wont it just die. We need netflix

That's partially my fault, I'm too impatient to wait for Netflix to send me a movie in the mail that they aren't streaming yet. I'd rather have the option of going to a store and having it in my hands instantly. The fact they offer me video games at no extra charge on their plans keeps pulling me back as well. It's half the price of having both a Netflix and Gamefly account. I'm sure there are many others out there like me, damn the way people like me think!

As for the app, I'm not liking it at all so far. It seemed more complicated to set up than it really needed to be. First I logged into my Blockbuster account to get a pin for this device, but it didn't have the Evo as an option for a device to activate. So I had to go through the browser on the phone, which than gave me a pin that I had to go back to the application and put in.

Now that I'm finally able to use the app, I deem it worthless. Not all the movies are available for rent, and some of them are as high as $18 for a download of it. I'm also not very willing to rent a movie for $4 on my phone at this point in time. After this initial bad impression, I notice it has a button to get the movie by mail. I thought this might be a useful feature for adding movies to my queue before I forget about them as the day goes on. Well, all it does is open the blockbuster site in my browser, which I could easily go to without the application's help I believe. The get in store button takes you to the mobile website as well. So this application is pretty damn useless, for me at least. Would greatly appreciate it if this app magically disappeared from my phone.

I think the first question that was on my mind was if it supported HDMI .
My question was answered in another thread.
Nope.
I really wish it did, I'm tired of driving to blockbuster or the only other video place open anymore. I just want to watch a movie from my Evo to my tv.

Ouch so the movies like 4.00? I will stick to Red Box, sheesh.....Thats kind of like Pizza, who pays 18.00 for one when so many pizza places offering them for 5.00 each

I still use blockbuster. I much prefer it over Netflix. I can return the movies to the store and they'll immediately exchange those for whatever is in store (while the next one on your queue ships out).

This way, you ALWAYS have a movie in hand. Not just that, they have all new movies (unlike Netflix) AND, the monthly price includes BLU-Rays AND video games (again, unlike Netflix).

Honestly, I cant see why anyone would go with Netflix

As far as the APP goes, I have registered it to my Blockbuster by mail account, and I'm going to try it out this weekend on a road trip. Will post my thoughts asap.
