Bluetooth Earpiece Recommendation And Why.

Don't bother with anything except a jawbone era, or a plantronics voyage pro+

Both have great sound, function, and battery life
The plantronics has the boom mic, but, the sound, both sending and receiving is fantastic.
I had a custom ear piece made for my jawbone era, so the fit problem that so many of us had with the jawbones, is a non issue for me.

These aren't the most stylish choices out there, but they are the absolute best when it comes to functionality.

Check Ebay/Amazon/Google for best pricing

I've had at least 20+ BT headsets, and these 2 are the current top choices

Well Motorola is sending me the H17, if that turns out to be a clunker, then I will get the Jawbone ERA.

voyager pro probably the best, like you stated no bell and whistles but a workhorse, using on my hero and will use when I get 3d in a few days

I have both a BlueAnt q2 and the (yes overpriced) Motorola finiti. The q2 has great volume control but it takes a while to charge it also is more comfortable. The Finiti stays on very well but can irritate my ear after a while. It also is VERY good in high winds, at least for the person I'm calling. The best thing about the finiti is the 15 minute recharge time. Hope this helps, Rick

I currently have a Voyager Pro, I believe it is the Pro. I have owned it for a few years. It works great, has good battery life, and the sound quality is excellent. My issue is that it doesn't work the same with the 3d as it did with my two prior Lotus non smart phones. The biggest issues for me is that it no longer says who is calling and it doesn't give directions when using Nav. It did with both Lotus but not with the 3d.

So now I am looking for a new BT that will give me those features with the 3d. What would you guys recommend?

the blue ant q2, and the jawbone era will both announce who is calling you..
The blue ant T1 might also do this, but I am not certain

Haha. I am still rocking an old Motorola HS820 Bluetooth headset. Go look it up if you want to. Yes, it is extremely old, but it has been super reliable and I have actually used it over four handsets now, including one flip phone and three smartphones.

I am actually on the market for a new Bluetooth headset though. This is mostly because I want one that has a microUSB port for charging. That way I can use the DC car adapter that charges my Sprint HTC EVO 3D to also charge my Bluetooth headset. Do any of these preferred Bluetooth headsets that I am seeing mentioned in this thread use microUSB ports for charging?

they almost all use micro usb now a days; sort of the de facto standard...

That is what I figured given that nearly all smartphones now use microUSB ports. It was also what I was hoping for.

I think I will take a look at the Jawbone and BlueAnt Wireless Bluetooth headsets. Thanks.

I just received the Motorola H17 today that they replace my H730, and so far an improvement, I will test it for a few weeks and if I think it is not great then I will get the jawbone. So far so go though, not notify the notifications, but does not tell you who is calling, you figured Motorola would be all over that by now, but does read your text out when you download the Android app Motospeaks

I will also vouch for the Jawbone. I have been using the Icon for a little over a year and it's great.

It's been dropped countess times, even on concrete and asphalt.

One time I dropped it on my lawn and didn't notice. It was lost until the next morning, after my sprinklers had thoroughly watered my lawn (and Icon).

I also dropped it in a puddle of water once, totally submerged.

I've used it in the rain many times.

It still works perfectly.

It has pretty decent to good volume (I can easily hear callers on the freeway in a convertible). It has very good call quality (callers can easily hear me when I'm in that same convertible on the freeway).

You can hear your music and GPS, system sounds, etc, in the Jawbone too.

And you can also change the voice the Jawbone uses to tell you status, battery life, etc.

All that, and the thing is so small you don't even notice it.

I don't know what benefits the newer Era offers over the Icon. I can tell you the Icon is great though, and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a bluetooth headset. Someday, when mine dies, I will almost certainly replace it with whatever the latest Jawbone is at that time.

And this is coming from someone who has had more bluetooth headsets than I can count.

Well for now I will keep the H17 until it does not behave, it also reads text, it is suppose to read the caller ID but for some reason it does not for 2.3 Gingerbread, I don't know if they will eventually put out a fix for it, but for now it is what it is, and it is also very small and more comfortable that I thought it would be, but if it does not behave then the next BT will be the Jawbone.

Me personally, i've tried the jawbone... don't like it... it always cuts out...

i like blue ant bluetooth devices...

Just ordered my second $37 Jawbone Icon from Amazon in 2 weeks! My brother liked it so much, I gave him the first one.

I ordered a Q2 and have been using it for a few days. It is a good headset but the Voyager Pro is more comfortable and the sound quality is better. My Voyager Pro worked perfectly with both my Lotus non smart phones. Unfortunately it doesn't work the same with a droid. Does anyone know if the Voyager Pro + would give me the same features as the Q2? I want it to give nav directions, say who is calling, speak text messages, etc.

A2DP is the bluetooth profile that lets you hear all the phone audio sounds on your bluetooth headset. So if you can hear it on the phone without bluetooth, you will be able to hear it on your bluetooth headset if it has A2DP. So whatever bluetooth headset you are looking at, make sure it has A2DP if you want to hear your nav directions, etc.

As for the rest of that stuff (reading text messages, etc) does your phone do it now without a bluetooth? If it doesn't, then it might be kind of difficult to find a headset that does it. I'd probably look for an app that does it and not worry about the headset doing it. It will give you a wider selection of headsets to choose from.

I have the Evo 3d now. I had the shift prior to that. With the Lotus the Voyager Pro did everything I wanted it to. For some reason it doesn't with the droids. According to everything I've read the Voyager Pro Plus has A2DP so it should do what I am looking for. I was hoping to confirm that 100% before I order it.

I like the Voyager Pro more than any other headset I have owned. Great battery life, very fast charging, excellent sound quality, very comfortable, etc. It appears the Voyager Pro Plus is everything the regular Voyager is but adds A2DP.

I noticed there is a A2DP app in the market, I assume to make the app work, you need a BT device that has A2DP within the BT device itself, I have the Motorola H17 and i am able to have my text read to me, but not incoming calls, it simply says incoming call on line one.

Voyager pro plus will give you a few of the features of the Q2, but not all of them..The Q2 is the most feature filled BT headset made right now..The ONLY headset that announces the name of the caller is the Q2...

Why is it that no other bluetooth headset with a droid will announce who's calling when the regular Voyager Pro does it with a Lotus Elite non smart phone???

It doesn't make any sense to me that the newer "smart" phones have less features than a much older non smart phone with the same device.

go to the Android Market, and download a free program called VLINGO

That will do most of what you are looking for, with your android phone

VLingo will say the callers number and name calling you on your BT ??

if your headset is A2DP compliant, and you use a Blueant Q2 headset, yes, it will read the name of the caller if it is in your phonebook..Otherwise it will just read the phone number..It worked that way on my evo 4g, and works that way on my evo 3d

Got it, I thought mine was as I am because I can listen to my text messages on my Motorola H17, but I guess that does not necessarily mean it is A2DP compliant.
