Bluetooth

Sorry to hijack your thread spineles but whilst on the subject of bluetooth can anyone please tell me where to find it and it's options ?
I have the power app on one of my screens where you can switch on bluetooth, wifi etc, but when I switched bluetooth on yesterday for a friend to send me a ringtone, his handset couldn't find mine ???

This is the problem I have so you to go to -

settings>wireless&Networks>Bluetooth Settings

Then you see discoverable and when you tick it you are discoverable for 120 secs, this is were I ask if you can be discoverable permantly??

Menu->Settings->Wireless & Networks->Bluetooth Settings->Check discoverable to allow people to see your phone.

As for your question, spineles, I'm sorry but I don't know. If anyone else does, I would like to know as well :D.

Cheers for the replies spineles and kingvortex.
Does seem mad that it can only be picked up for 2 mins. Also can't get my head round that you have to into bluetooth the long way to be able to make the handset discoverable when bt is switched on.
What's the point in having it on the power options app if no one can pick up your device ?

Just did some Googling on this subject and it appears that it's a limitation of Android at the moment. For whatever reason, Google decided that BT can only be discoverable for 120 seconds, so there is no real way to change this.
Having said that, I've just upgraded from a Hero, so I'm happy to have OBEX file transfer at all :D.

Don't know if this info will be of any help or not but once you've paired a device with the phone, the device will connect to your phone automatically, so you don't need to make your phone discoverable every time you want to connect to a paired device.

Hello :)

Sorry, another thread hijacker.

I tried connecting with my boyfriends iPhone, we can pair up fine, see each other fine, but when it actually comes to sending him a file, it just fails instantly.

Am I doing something wrong?

Hi,
I am having similar problem. The desire finds other phones OK and pairs with them but tells "not connected"Tried to different phone, one of them iphone and the other a blackberry.Funny thing is that it recieved a photo fine from balckberry and I can't send one to it as it says "operation failed"
Whats going on then. How can I make it to connect?
Is it my phone?
Is it Android?
Is it me?

Hi Jaidyn, unless your boyfriend's iPhone is jailbroken, this is a limitation with the iPhone not something you're doing wrong.

I know because I'm in the same situation with my girlfriend, she has an iPhone and I wanted to send her a song from my phone. Bluetooth wouldn't work, tried emailing her but the iPhone wouldn't let her save it. In the end she had to open the email on her netbook, save the song, import it to iTunes and then sync it with her phone, total pain!

If the iPhone is jailbroken I think you can get around this (not really an iPhone pro but I'm told you can by people who are), but she's only had it 5 months and doesn't want to invalidate the warranty.

Why would you want to be discoverable all the time?
if you are paired to a device then they will automatically be re-connected, hence no need to be discoverable all the time (wastes battery)

if you wish to receive something from a new phone then discoverable is indeed needed, but only for a few seconds till you are paird, Desire remembers for the future!

In my opinion i would not want to be discoverable all the time, it annoys me when strangers nearby on a train or hotel feel the need to blu-you in the middle of the night a random thing!
