boost flashing question

i know that the droid incredible can be flashed to boost. i also know how to get all the info i need to do it. i was thinking about using my prevail to do it, but i have a question. if i want to revert back to my prevail, can i? i love both phones, but i think the incredible suits me a bit better. i just want to know if i can use it again should i decide to. thanks for any help in advance.

sounds like your inquiring about cloning which is not talked about here.

Is cloning illegal? I thought companies frown upon it but I didnt think it was a no-no. I never thought about it. I see ads all the time on Craigslist of little shops offering to flash phones to another carrier.

yea it's illegal, with the advent of the Wireless Telephone Protection Act of 1998. The FCC and the federal government calls it cellphone fraud. Here's a site with further info on it: Cell Phone Fraud | FCC.gov.

Oh Ok. Two seperate things it seems like.

Cloning is when you use the ESN from a legitimate phone and use it on another phone, then both phones have the same ESN at the same time.

Flashing is simply using a phone meant for say AT&T and reprograming it to work with Verizon.

So cloning is illegal (no brainer)
how about flashing to another carrier? Thats Ok right?

I'm not interested in either one. im just trying to broaden my edjumacacion to make myself shmartur. :D

well, ATT is gsm, verizon is cdma I believe, so that wouldnt work... but in order to flash a phone to another carrier, you would have to have the info on that carrier... for gsm phones (ATT, T-mobile) you wouldnt have to flash, you would just need the subsidy code, then insert sim card from another carrier, modify a few settings and poof, that phone is on another carrier.. but for cdma phones, its a bit more complicated, you would need an ESN and MID from the carrier you would want to flash to and cdma tools.. Im not extremely knowledgeable on how that works for cdma phones, but for gsm phones like from ATT and T-mobile, I know a few sites that would do for those. Also, if all else fails:

i read that as long as you arent using 2 phones for the price of one, it wasnt necessarily illegal since you arent ripping people off. anywho, i dumped this project as i have to switch to virgin and the wildfire S, so this is now irrelevant lol. sorry to have stirred up any trouble.

ESN has to be able to be put into the carrier network, metropcs and cricket are the only cdma carriers that allow that
sprint, and its variants, verizon etc do not let you bring your phone in.

I think that should be illegal I remember reading that jailbreaking your phone was legal an you should be able to switch carriers. That was with the gsm tech.

If you port the incredible to boost with the same esn as the prevail then yes. You can revert to the prevail. All you have to do would be to turn the prevail on. Whichever phone would be turned on is the phone that would get service.

Do not EVER have both phones on at the same time. BTW, this is illegal. Even if you own both phones!
