Root Boost is updating the prevail to 2.3 gingerbread next week

how do i repack da new kernel once the zimage is compiled from the GB source?

Been a while since i repacked & installed a new kernel from source.

Any help or PM would b greatly appreciated.

So what I got from this is if we get the option to update or hold off, we need to updates ASAP? Or should we try to hold off as long as possible?

It's kind of a preference thing. If you want to use any of the ROMs, Kernals, or the mods that have been allowed based on custom Kernels then yes you need to hold off. If you want to jump to Stock Gingerbread and run rooted Shabby implies the new one click root "SHOULD" work. I will be holding off until it is at least confirmed to root again but will probably jump to Gingerbread as soon as we can confirm root. :)

Edit: Oh yeah if you are running any kind of ROM or Kernal and want to update I'd still hold off to confirm the update will succesfully push unless you want to Odin back to stock first.

yea we will need to know when the ota is happening, someone will need to be stock to pull it (the zip) and then after updating find out if we have root still. then if so then i will need to get myself a system dump as well as kernel etc etc :) but dont worry too much if the exploit doesnt work. shabby has a few more tricks up his sleeve ;)

Shabyy I am unfamiliar with the rooting exploit

But cant you just install CWM 5 and use adb (while in CWM)to copy the need root files to the phone

It will be interesting to see how the OTA Gingerbread compares with hroak's Cynogenmod. I am guessing they updated the kernel as well.

they probably will put in new more secure boot loaders and kernel

hopefully they dont disable download mode (Odin Mode)

disabling download mode would be tragic to your contributions and affect alot of prevail users..I hope they dont either.. im hoping this all leans toward the better

If this update does come, I'm willing to put my phone out there to test odin, and rooting. Just in case anyone needs a tester. :)

odin wont get blocked guys, for them to risk updateing the bootloader over ota with a big ota like this is silly and stupid on samsung's part. sides the epic/transform/conqueor/and about a zillion other sprint samsung phones, most if not all have had ciq removed and have cm7 etc etc.. as does virgins triumph... sprint is one of the more open carriers. in fact sprints policy on rooting is using software like odin to flash back to stock and then return to the customer (assuming there is any problems if the phone is working fine then why mess it up ya?)

i know several sprint employees that have custom roms on their phones and are involved at xda hell one of them is cool with leaking stuff so long as its not pre-release software. unfortuantly despite my best efforts i havent been able to get you guys leaks of stuff.. due to you not being official sprint :(

Personally, I plan to put my phone to stock EE14 prior to fetching the update. I don't think it will be necessary, but ya never know :D

I'm new to this so sorry if I'm behind on anything. But my wife's prevail updated to the gingerbread andriod version 2.3.5 about an hour ago, and my phone hasn't yet any ideas why mine hasn't updated yet?

No idea.. i just went back to stock EE14(eeeeeeewwwww) just cause i was bored and wanted to test this version. I go to system updates and it says,"Android is up to date".

I am going to Odin back to ED13 and see what happens.

I Odin back to ED13 and got the same message. Tried updating all things then tried android again and still nothing. Wonder how they are phasing the updates in then?

Maybe Boost update servers are overloaded or something.
Went back to ED13 and it shows an update although it is only 4.3megs.
I am pretty sure that is the ED13->EE14 upgrade. However if i try to download it it just says download failed...

Yea it is. It did update for me. So still nothing with the Update.

people whats most important right now is:

1) finding out when the update is truly coming
2) we need that update.zip from there we can make a preroooted version so everyone can flash it if they want.

I keep checking for updates on the phone pretty regular now. My phone was EE14 when I bought it though, I have never gone through the OTA update process before.

Am I correct to assume that when it gets released, one of the System Updates options will download the update.zip to the sdcard?

Just got the notification on my phone that the update downloaded. Haven't installed yet. Where should I look for the update.zip?
