Root [Boost Mobile] [Guide]How to change your MSL and PRL (Not CDMA Workshop)

Chris norton is dumb its the way the software is made its fine and for the person asking to usr parts of thos go right ahead as long as it helps others

i've tried countless of times to get this to work and i have failed i know i am doing it right lol that is not the problem :( after i do everything i re-start the phone but still does not change the msl, any tips?

DFS never shows me any other COM port but one...what am I doing wrong? It never shows that my phone is a com port, but always shows that I have a modem com port...

will this work on the samsung prevail ?

Yes, it worked on mine and I am unrooted with FE16 installed. I am a Boost customer, but I used one of the Sprint old corporate PRL's -01115 and it worked great. My signal improve as well as my call clarity. I have read all the posts denoucning the fact that changing the PRL will not improve your speed or blah...blah...blah...blah, but don't believe it. It even got rid of the annoying echo I had when I used my speaker phone.

The only fall back was that it deactivated my phone service, but I could still access the Internet being tethered using PDAnet. This is probably a new featured they installed with the lastest updates and probably why I can't root this phone unless I go back to an older version. When you go back to reactivate your phone service, make sure you cancel the updating PRL or it will put your old PRL back on the phone.

Was your phone in DM and unlocked when you typed in the new code in DFS? After you type in the new code, you have to write it to the phone before it will stick. If the phone is not unlocked on the DFS log screen, nothing will change in your settings.

HTH

It will work for your phone... however yes you will need different prls... boost mobile is a subsidiary of sprint and uses the same network... which is why we can switch between each carriers prls... ill try doing some research on your carrier to see if there is a compatible network for you guys to use

glad this is sill helping people

this was back when i had time to do stuff instead of workin every day from 230pm till11 pm

If I had a windows machine I would try this!! Doesn't work for linux. Or do they have a download? I looked around and couldn't find it.

should work on all phones atleast the software part does. you have to find the dial codes for your phone and find away to get it into usb diagnostic mode

Did you ever wind up finding a linux equivalent to cdma workshop? I've been running ubuntu 12.04 have to say some of the tools around these parts are not linux friendly ;)

Does the program QPST 2.7 Build 323 work for changing the prl's on the ZTE Warp? I found a video on XDA about this software, and it looks easier (I think). Also which prl would you recommend for me, I live in the mtns. of northern Va, (kind of close to a major city, but my friends who have Verizon, and Straight talk get way better reception than I do. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Just do what I did and ask a friend running Sprint what his prl is and use that. I was running 60686 and he was on 60690. When I changed to 60690 where I live (NorCal) it definitely was a good change. Your region makes all the difference

I'm now on 60690 prl. My friends Sprint phone is running here in Sacramento so I thought I should give it a shot. Nice numbers compared to 60686 I was previously on

On Montrose server since it was the one it found on its own. Not the closest though by a long shot. Screenshot is with 60711 running. Even better than 60690!

I used the root guide on this forum a long time ago and it was quite helpful, now, since I've been browsing around reading different forums, my interest has peaked about this subject. I posted a new thread on changing carriers for the WARP but if I could improve overall reception and speed I'll stay with Boost. I live in Alabama (semi-rural) and want to know how to find out what PRL number sets will be best for me. If any one has that information I would appreciate some direction. Thanks.:D

Well, I think you should start out by asking around to friends and family in your area, that are using Sprint, what prl's they are using and flashing those in. My girlfriend has a warp and she is on 61008 straight from boost and its blazing fast in our house. I was on 60686 from boost and not so fast. My friend on Sprint had 60690, and when I flashed that I picked up about 300kb in dl speed which I initially thought was great. For S's & G's I flashed 60711 and gained yet again and decided to stay with it. Every region is different in prl strengths so just start somewhere and play around with it. Changing is so quick and easy it won't take you long to find it

I asked a couple of my friends and they are like, "what the hell are you talking about"?:D:D None of them have a clue. Is there anywhere on the net that can give me that sort of information for this region or can I just start off with the numbers you guys have used?

Alright, after trying to work this thing thru, I finally asked the advise from my friend nOve. We changed the prl from the stock Boost number to 60690.
We then then tried something different. We went in, and changed the Vocoder port setting to "WILD".
My phone had significant increase here at home. I went from 0-1 bars to 2-4, with 3G.What an increase from what I had.
We ran some speed tests, and it averaged out at 125 to 200 on dl, and 30 to 50 on Upl. (I was really happy with that). nOve told me to keep an eye on that, and watch it for a day or so.
So, the next morning, I'm heading to work (towards DC), and no signal, no 3G. I'm right on top of towers in metropolitan DC. I still get calls, and text, just no data.
I talk to my buddy(nOve) and we switch the Vocoder setting back to EvRC, and BAMMMM!!!!!
Signal like no tomorrow!! Constant 5 bars! 3G out the yang! I did a speed test this morning and was getting 275 on dl and 124 on upl.
We're gonna try another prl number and play with the port settings again. I want to hit the "BIG BANG" numbers!
My many thanks to my friend. For all of his help and advise. He's not only helped me get better service, but given me great advise and tips on my ZTE WARP!
When I showed my phone to my (business) partner (who is an avid Iphone user), all he could say was, " Holy S--t Man, That's Awesome! I'm dumping this thing!"
Thank you nOve, keep up the great work.:rock::rock::rock::rock::rock::rock:
