I need to root my zte warp to make it a mobile hotspot without computer access.
Welcome to the AndroidForums, vadiva1.
Firstly, I've moved this thread to the all-things-root area for you guys.
Secondly, I'll have to trust the other guys' answers here about whether or not you can root without a computer, but, I can tell you that on some Android devices this is entirely possible.
For example on the HTC Droid Eris, it actually took what seemed like forever to achieve root without a leaked engineering ROM. But, when the mid.txt symlink exploit was used to allow the recovery partition to be written to, flashing custom recovery (via flash_image) was entirely possible using just your phone (i.e., without ever needing a PC). Installing the actual root binaries (su / Superuser.apk) was a piece of cake after that.
It took some clever GScript shell scripting (and eventually a 1-click app was produced), but there's always some enterprising soul who'll find a way.
So, if you're able to overwrite the recovery partition without being rooted, getting a custom recovery installed via flash_image seems viable (and then flashing an su.zip from custom recovery, of course).
Anyway, cheers again and welcome to AF!
