Root [Boost Mobile] How to truly unbrick your SGS3 - Boost SGS3

pretty sure im using windows 8 os now but my device couldnt be detected on odin i really dont know what to do sir can u please help me my device wont still power on i need to plug it in to be able to go to download screen

ah, windows 8 may be part of the issue.

Download Ubuntu Desktop | Ubuntu

install wubi, it installs like a program and will let you boot into a fully usable linux. from tehre you can downlaod and install heimdall and heimdall frontend. heimdall is the open sourced version of odin. you may be able to get it working all then :) when its all done, you can uninstall wubi and your computer will return to normal :)

you dont have to use ubuntu, i prefer linux mint but most ubuntu based distros have wubi set on the install disc when you insert it into a windows computer while booted.

Hey guys, I'm back. If you're having trouble getting the image onto the sd card, you can use this tool to transfer it onto the sd card on windows. Here's the link:
http://angelfirenetworks.servegame.com/XDA/Tool/DiskImageRev2.exe
And here's the debrick image:
http://angelfirenetworks.servegame.com/XDA/Tool/DiskImageRev2.exe

Flash it within windows to a blank microSD card that is 16GB(assuming you have the 16gb ver, otherwise get a 32gb sdcard), Must be Class 10, and must be flashed using a Computer and a SDcard reader, not another phone. make sure to go into windows disk management and wipe the drive partitions before flashing the image. Once complete, download your phones stock rom, and prepare to nuke the phone's internal storage with the new rom. To make sure no partitions were lost, repartition the phone in odin, using the pit file for your phone size

Quick question though:
Does anyone know of any roms like S4 Revolution that have good battery life and are compatible with the s3?

Do you permanently have to leave the sd card in your phone to use it? I got my phone back and running, but if I take the sd card with the bricked img out, my phone will not turn on. Also it would only work with a 32GB card, even though I only have a 16GB phone. So now I have a 32GB card that is only recognized as 62.6MB.

ok sounds liek you have the magic sdcard working which is great, but you need to restore your devices bootloaders. what you need to do is boot into download mode and flash an odin tar that contains them all in order to restore them to your phone.

once you restore them you will be able to use your device as normal again (as the same with your sdcard)

this tar has all the sbl's and files needed. using any of the others without those files and you probably wont do anything.

I installed

pda--SPH-L710_DM7-rooted_system-OTA_Ready---Extract_with_7zip

My phone will not turn on without the magic sd card. Is it because it's the rooted version? My baseband is L710VPBMD4. I have tried changing it with the instructions from smith058, but it still stays as MD4.

Also on reboots, I'll sometimes get a scrambled green screen. Is the baseband my problem?

no, you should be only following this guide if you nuked your bootloaders by flashing something from another phone, or an international version rom/kernel. you need a tar that has the bootloaders in it, the one i linked to is the only one for you. the rest are tars with only certain partitions in them. im downloading teh tar now to make a custom one that will flash bootloaders and cwm so you can odin flash that and then have custom recovery to flash a rom/wipe data or just boot up as normal then.

I am following these directions because I bricked my phone installing an unsupported rom. Now, I'm just trying to get a working, rooted phone.

alright, im almost done with the download. once i create teh tar ill go ahead and upload it, grab it and download and it will restore the bootloaders from MD7 and get you up and running :)

here try this tar https://mega.co.nz/#!lQ52EYSZ!cYDmCw6qeAZIe8hptuqCcHeYeO8VrIzECZVK35AUU8o

it has sbl1, sbl2, sbl3, rpm, persist, CWM-recovery, and aboot. leaving data, system, boot kernel, cache alone so its a much smaller download and faster flashing. boot to download mode and flash this tar in odin and you should be able to boot up fine then :)

i do not know what this will do to your ability to do OTA's, but i think we both can agree having a working sdcard and phone is a bit higher priority :)

Thanks. I fixed my problem installing the file from http://androidforums.com/virgin-mob...t/753321-i-have-found-stock-firmware-md7.html

I then installed your file mainly for the recovery. Everything seems to be working like it should now. Thanks. I never had a problem like this with a flashed sprint phone.

thats good :) glad you were able to get it working, average jtagging costs 50-60 bucks so im glad OEMs have started to shift towards the sdcard booting stuff, makes it easier for us as modders.

Thanks Shabby. This should be a sticky

Stuff like this helps me sleep better at night. Lol.

I agree Wy. This definitely needs to be a sticky. I just requested that it be added to the STICKY section and hopefully the Mods will add it. :)

Can this method work for my Galaxy Note 1 SHV-E160K? Please answer me? and if i have a 2gb card is this worth or i have to take a bigger card?

There's a chance it might work. You would definitely have to find the correct files for your device and replace the files listed for the S3.

Also, It clearly states in the instructions that you will need a 16 GB SD card or larger. The 2 GB card you have is nowhere large enough to hold the data needed for the recovery.

The best thing to do is send Shabby a message and ask him. Seeing as he's the member who shared this, he would be able to give you a definite yes or no answer to your question.

Have you checked the Galaxy Note 1 section to see if there's a fix similar to what is posted here? In not, that would be a good place to look.

If you can get your tablet into download mode you shouldn't even need to do the fix listed in this thread. You could just flash the correct images and restore your tablet back to stock. I would most definitely try that 1st.

Good luck. I hope you are able to save it.

if you could get me a copy of the aboot.img i can tell you. however 2gb is not enough. at the same time you also still need someone to dump the unbrick image as well.

I can't boot my phone into download mode or recovery mode or anything it's just like a dead phone...How can i give you the aboot.img file of my mobile is it not turning on?

No, I don't have the stock tar for my mobile. I just bought it from my friend and my mobile was rebooting by itself then I read the pit method and I flashed the pit file via odin after 3 minutes odin said pass but after then the pone got bricked and no response from the phone.

check samfirmware for it. if you can get teh stock odin tar and download it and get just teh aboot out then i can tell you if this trick will work on your device.

stock tars are usually over a GB in size and i really dont feel like trying to track one down, download it to pull the aboot out (which itself is less than a MB). then decompile it and look for teh string of text that will tell me if it will support looking for sdcards.

if it does then someone who has this phone and custom recovery can flash my unbrick creator zip and using that and this guide and teh stock tar you download to fix your phone. if it doesnt then i would suggest reaching out to mobiletechvideos.com they do an amazing job with jtagging and i have a coupon code for 5% off of their stuff.

I am downloading the stock tar from samfirmware but can you please tell me that how can I pull the aboot out? and then how can i decompile it to look for the string?

There are 3 files inside the tar that are cache.img, factoryfs.img and hidden.img rest are .bin files. Now please tell me that which one to decompile?
