Root [Boost Mobile] How to truly unbrick your SGS3 - Boost SGS3

I have downloaded the stock tar file which is of 800Mb, now can you please tell me that how to pull out the aboot.img, I tried a lot but wasn't able to.....

Hey shabby, will this work with the folks that are hard bricking their phone due to changing the Knox bootloader. I see a lot of people are messing their phones up trying to upgrade to kitkat due to how pure the Knox crap wants the phone to be. It seem some quite knowledgeable guys like rompnit can't even recover their phone.

If they were to follow these steps would they be able to go all the way back to MD7 bootloader?

Damn good question Smith!

There needs to be a new unbrick image made for 4.3/4.4, but it should work overall. how exactly are they bricking?

I don't know or understand the Knox completely but... they have/upgrade to a new ota update (all the newer update have knox) that changes the bootloader to a new bootloader that contains Knox, if they are not completely 100% stock the phone goes dead - or if they successfully upgraded and then Chang the bootloader to an older one that also bricks the phone.... basically to my knowledge it all comes down to the knox bootloader.

yes, trying to downgrade will cause issues. flashing the latest odin tar should fix that though. you can flash custom stuff with knox, the counter gets tripped (thats the point of it) but it wont break for that.

I believe that some of these bricks are not able to get download mode or any life on there phone.

What exactly does the unbrick.img fix?
I don't care about the Knox counter being tripped or the warranty or anything like that. Just wanting to understand and possibly help others in need just by asking about it.

if you cant get into download mode thats exactly what unbrick.img fixes :)

just need someone who has done the latest update to dump the image. since knox has been introduced i need to make unbrick images for each firmware update for each device i make it for. as such its hard to keep up with what versions are on what devices. the unbrick image dumper is on my site, shabbypenguin.com under tools. :)

I am on boost, but I'm running the Sprint ND8 update. I can make you one. Give me a day or so

Thanks, JD. I appreciate you responding to my PM concerning this. You're the only one I knew who was running the update and knew how to give Shabby what he needed. You da man bro. :)

Whoa, wait you have teh sprint bootloaders installed? or you have teh latest bootloaders for your device and then teh update made into a rom flashed? i need someone who was on stock and done the OTA's or flashed the latest firmware via odin/kies that is teh only way to ensure teh bootloaders are actually updated.

Jd took the sprint Ota through the tar in Odin.

not according to what he says

The Boost/VM variant of kitkat isn't out yet. I flashed Sprints ND8, which is Kitkat 4.4.2. I'm running a deodexed rooted stock I built from the OTA tar. I also have a stock odexed rooted, and of course the tar itself. I think I built a stock unrooted odexed zip too.

its not possible for you guys to take a sprint ota without haveing your device completely flashed to sprint. all the bootloader partitions etc, not just the rom. as for if that is possible idk with your device.

now what is the latest version for the boost sgs3? build number and version.

In his thread he created for the nd8 update, that's for sprint, he says he did the tar through odin. Boost and Virgin don't have the update out yet. But our phones are the exact same for partitions as the sprint model.

MK5 is the latest officially out for Boost. I believe.

You are correct my friend. There are some people who have Boost or VM but are one MOAR(Sprint based ROM), who are getting the notification. However, it wouldn't flash, because as you know the recovery has to be that carrier, and stock. Neither of which is the case if a Boost/VM user flashes a custom rom. I Odined the official tar file that I mentioned in the OP.

I am running Sprint's official 4.4.2 KitKat update on a Boost variant phone. As you all know, all Sprint or Boost/VM SPH-L710, will flash interchangeably. In the past, you had to change mmsc url, but with this build, I did not have to do that, just fyi. So, with that being said, @Shabbypenguin, do you still want me to flash the image file for you, or will it not work for your purposes?

Ok, so MK5 is the latest version for the boost sgs3. im assuming that is 4.3? if so then someone who has the MK5 bootloaders needs to dump them using the unbrick image zip.

jdsingle unfortunately no, your software has been tainted with the sprint files and thus would no longer be a clean dump.

is there an mk5 tar?

I asked this same question over at XDA but instead for our SIIs, I have been thinking about this for the past few days, and I ask you guys how would we go about this? any ideas or ways we can start this? is it even possible to create a debrick image for our galaxy s2s?

AR

sorry but you cant, its a qualcomm thing the sph-d710 is exynos.

So, I have a Sprint Galaxy S3 4.3 that was previously running CM 10.2. I noticed there was an update to a stable version of CM 11, and when I tried to update it, the update aborted (apparently I had too old a version of CWM). I managed to re-flash CM 10.2, and out of irritation I decided to try flashing SlimRoms instead. Well, in my haste and irritation I flashed an international version, and bricked the phone.

I know all of the steps to take to get it back up, but have been unsuccessful, but I think it is because the debrick files are made for 4.2 or lower. Is there a newer debrick file for 4.3?

Flashed an international version?? OUCH!

If your phone is Sprint then I would definitely use their unbrick image.
